I don’t know if this is the place to write you for information about a performer I once saw, probably on Great Performances, but here goes:
This was the only scene I saw as I was channel-surfing: a stark, rather abstract set with a staircase or inclined plane which a female singer climbs as she sings. The lighting is rather dark and the singer’s costume is also dark and seems to consist of several layers: a long skirt, a long blouse, and a below-the-hip jacket which resembled a suit jacket. She is fairly stout (like me), seems to wear little make-up, no jewelry, and has fairly short, dark hair not arranged in any artful way.
I don’t remember the language in which she sang. What I do remember is how movingly she sang and how powerful the scene was. I don’t remember anyone else near her when she sang but there may have been someone near her as she began to ascend the staircase. The aria was not cheerful and she made no grand gestures while singing.
I was deeply moved by her singing and I don’t know why I didn’t watch more but, to tell the truth, I don’t like opera very much.
Does any of this description ring a bell with anyone? I think I saw it on Great Performances more than 2 years ago but less than 5 years ago. I did not think of getting information about the singer and the opera until this morning.
Is there any web page I could visit to review pictures of all the female singers?
