Synopsis:
Richard Wagner’s epic Tristan und Isolde is conducted by James Levine in this visually spare and dramatically gripping interpretation. Join GREAT PERFORMANCES at the Met for this special presentation, when Deborah Voigt—one of the world’s most celebrated Wagnerian sopranos—undertakes the iconic role of Isolde for the first time at the Met. Robert Dean Smith, a veteran Tristan of the Bayreuth Festival, portrays the other half of the archetypal couple on this transcendent theatrical journey.

What a beautiful, youthful, strong and tender, Tristan! Thankfully, I had tickets to see this production – with Herr Smith – as a jump-in, last-minute tenor. MET: offer Smith a continued contract!

Fantastic TV presentation!!! for a non-0pera buff. (Levine, Voigt, Smith). Is this TV presentation available for DVD purchase? Thanks.

    What a wonderful performance!

I switched on to this production by accident on Sky Arts and was immediately spell-bound. Everything was right; The Cast, the Stage, the Lighting and the Television Presentation were all First Class.
Ms Voight was superb. Robert Dean Smith, as a last minute stand-in was a real find. Their stamina was certainly impressive. And all this WITHOUT rehearsal? Truly outstanding!

If only I had been there!

I am still trying to find it on DVD.
