I watched this documentary twice in the theater and I was wondering if a DVD of the performance would be available?
    Thank you,

The first complete version of Paquita is available. I bought it at Amazon in February, 2011. When I saw it, I couldn’t believe it. It is the only one ever made. After years of research, Pierre Lacotte has combined the original beginning from 1846 with Petipa’s new second act, created in Russian in the late 1890’s.. I, also am a dancer, and never thought I would live to ever see it. It is the most incredible DVD I have ever watched. It is only my opinion, but, I think Mr. Wiseman deliberately with held names and the piece to allow it’s completion
It is truly a gem and I encourage you to purchase it while you still can. I believe his first film, Ballet, featuring earlier American Ballet Theatre, can only be purchased through r. Wiseman’s own company. I have it and it is also wonderful.

Not yet but it certainly will be. Keep checking Amazon or your favorite source.

YES. I watched this last night and was so very impressed I immediately began to think of getting the DVD. The intercuts between the streets of Paris, the rehearsals, the performances, the grit, the glory and the exquisite beauty of the production took my breath away. I have to thank the fine folks at WNET for this. Two years ago, I was fortunate enough to pickup the DVD of “Company” from them as well. Thank you much.

Can you get it on Itunes?

  4. Kathy Harter says:

This June 16 Great Performances of the Paris Opera Ballet rehearsals was just stunning. I could watch it over and over so yes, I will be getting the DVD. I did tape some of it but would prefer a professionaI DVD copy.

Please, please show this wonderful piece again. I fee as though I must see it at least 3 times. Once to view the beauty and amazing dancers, another to try to understand it in French and another with the mute, so I can just watch without listening. Also would love to purchade a DVD.

You can get “La Danse” on Amazon. Do you know that Wiseman did another film in 1995 called “Ballet:? it documented an early American Ballet Theatre. It is only available at Zipporah , Wiseman’s own company. I heard his Q&A on ‘La Danse” at Film forum. It was interesting. Many questioned the length (3 hours). He mentioned that he shot over 300 hours of film. “Ballet is 6 hours, 2 DVDs).

Paquita is now available at Amazon. It is the only complete version combining the original French first act and Petipa’s changed version for the second act.. It is amazing and worth the wai. t It was actually released by the Paris Opera Ballet.. I never thought it could be done. It is incredible with Agnes Letestu and Jose Martinez.. Ballet, Mr. Wiseman’s first ballet film featuring earlier American Ballet Theatre, I believe, is only available at Zippora. I have it and it is also wonderful. Mr. Wiseman is truly a genius.
