Brian Stokes Mitchell’s performance as Emile De Becque seemed so genuine. His vocal talent is stunning. It’s wonderful to see a truly masculine actor/singer rise to the top on Broadway again. I now have a new idol along with Howard Keel, Gordon McRae and Robert Goulet.

Brian Stokes Mitchell gave such a riveting performance in South Pacific the other night on PBS
Great Performances. I have never heard such a rich
baritone voice. I was in my living room watching and listening to his beautiful voice and when he
finished I stood up from my chair, appaulding and
saying, “Bravo.” Reba also did an excellent job.

Brian Stokes Mitchell’s Emile was stunning and made the entire play come alive in completely new ways. He brought out all the layers of depth in the character and that depth spread out through the rest of the narrative. I could tell Reba MacIntire was really crying at the end when Emile returns. Very Very moving performance. I hope to hear him again very soon.
