Biography

Angel Corella was born in Madrid in 1975. He began his ballet studies in Colmenar Viejo and later studied in Madrid with Victor Ullate and Karemia Moreno.

In May 1991, Mr. Corella won First Prize in the National Ballet Competition of Spain. In December 1994, he won the Grand Prix and Gold Medal at the Concours International de Danse de Paris, dancing the pas de deux from "Don Quixote" and "Le Corsaire."

Mr. Corella joined American Ballet Theatre as a Soloist in April 1995 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in August 1996. His repertoire with ABT includes Solor and the Bronze Idol in "La Bayadère"; the title role in "Billy the Kid"; the Prince and the Jester in "Cinderella"; Franz in "Coppélia"; Conrad, Ali, the Slave, and Birbanto in "Le Corsaire"; Basil in "Don Quixote"; the "turning boy" and the leading role in "Études"; the first sailor in "Fancy Free"; the Peruvian in "Gaîté Parisienne"; Her Lover in "Jardin aux Lilas"; Albrecht in "Giselle"; Camille in "The Merry Widow"; Cassio in "Othello"; the pas de deux in "Other Dances"; the Blue Boy in "Les Patineurs"; the Son in "Prodigal Son"; the leading male role in "Push Comes to Shove"; Romeo in "Romeo and Juliet"; the pas de deux from "The Sleeping Beauty," Act III; Misgir
