He initially called on choreographer Graciela Daniele to contribute a few numbers, but she wisely declined, knowing that once Fosse got started, he would want to do it all. And while Fosse may not have had as many collaborators, he still had to contend with his co-producer Bernard Jacobs, the powerful president of the Shubert Organization. As usual, conflict arose from Fosse's insistence on keeping risque material in the show, in this case a number depicting a tourist coping with New York's then-notoriously seamy Times Square. The show's remaining numbers, an elaborate tribute to the art of dance, wowed audiences, and because Fosse co-produced the show, it became the greatest financial success of his stage career.
