THE ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC 70TH ANNIVERSARY GALA CONCERT: "Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor," op. 26
An excerpt from the Adagio section, featuring virtuoso Pinchas Zukerman. Dissatisfied with the initial version of the concerto after its 1866 premiere, Max Bruch rewrote the piece with advice from violinist and composer Joseph Joachim. Bruch dedicated the final version to Joachim, who was the soloist for its debut on January 7, 1868 in Bremen, Germany. The success of the concerto helped establish Bruch's reputation, and it remains among his most popular compositions.
