Stephen Prince is professor of communication studies and has taught film theory, history, and criticism at Virginia Tech for 12 years. He is the author of THE WARRIOR'S CAMERA: THE CINEMA OF AKIRA KUROSAWA (Princeton University Press, revised and expanded edition 1999). He has written extensively on film, including numerous articles, and is the author or editor of six other books: SCREENING VIOLENCE (2000); A NEW POT OF GOLD: HOLLYWOOD UNDER THE ELECTRONIC RAINBOW (2000); MOVIES AND MEANING: AN INTRODUCTION TO FILM (2000); SAM PECKINPAH'S THE WILD BUNCH (1999); SAVAGE CINEMA: SAM PECKINPAH AND THE RISE OF ULTRAVIOLENT MOVIES (1998); VISIONS OF EMPIRE: POLITICAL IMAGERY IN CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN FILM (1992). He is in the process of completing a new book entitled SAVAGE CINEMA 2: VIOLENCE IN CLASSICAL HOLLYWOOD FILM, 1930-1968.
