NATALIE COLE: ASK A WOMAN WHO KNOWS premiered during December Pledge in 2002 on PBS (check local listings).
There's a special kind of magic that comes with musical maturity -- an inherent ease, an innate knowing. Since garnering the 1975 Grammy Award for Best New Artist, Natalie Cole has delighted listeners with her distinctive vocal style, part jazz, part pop, and always soulful. Now, unquestionably in her prime, Natalie displays her consummate artistry in ASK A WOMAN WHO KNOWS, her debut album on Verve Records and first new album in three years. Featuring such gems as "The Music That Makes Me Dance," "I Haven't Got Anything Better to Do," "Soon," "It's Crazy," and "My Baby Just Cares for Me," Natalie's latest musical treasure trove finds her equally at home within a big band setting, lush symphonic arrangements, and an intimate quintet. Diana Krall and other special guests join Natalie in her return to GREAT PERFORMANCES for an evening of selections from the new album and other audience favorites.
Of her more than 20 solo records, ASK A WOMAN WHO KNOWS is Natalie Cole's first CD with Verve Records. The nearly 90-minute concert special taped in London features music from the CD as well as renditions of such American classics as "Let's Face the Music and Dance" and "Route 66," a duet with Diana Krall. See all the numbers included in the program in the song list and download a Natalie Cole screensaver.
