WHAT IS PODCASTING?
A video podcast enables you to easily download video files to your computer or a portable MP3 player. Using free software such as iPodder or Apple's iTunes, users subscribe to "feeds" -- small XML data files -- that the application regularly reads. When new video files are available, the software automatically downloads them to your computer or portable device. This means you can watch video clips whenever and wherever you like!
DO I NEED AN iPOD?
No. You do not need an iPod or other portable MP3 player to subscribe or watch to video podcasts. You can watch on your computer by following the instructions below.
HOW CAN I WATCH THE PODCAST?
Here's what you'll need to start downloading and watching video podcasts: a computer, an Internet connection (preferably broadband), and some free podcasting software. That's it! If you'd like to take the GREAT PERFORMANCES video clips with you, you'll also need a portable MP3 player with video capability.
HOW DO I SUBSCRIBE TO THE PODCAST?
Windows Users
In IE: right-click the orange XML button and select "copy shortcut"
In Firefox/Netscape/Mozilla: right-click the orange XML button and select "copy link location"
Macintosh Users
In IE: click and hold or control-click the orange XML button and select "copy link location"
In Firefox/Netscape/Mozilla: click and hold or command-click the orange XML button and select "copy link location"
In Safari: control-click the orange XML button and select "copy link to clipboard"
WHERE CAN I GET FREE PODCASTING SOFTWARE?
Use the links listed below to download free podcasting software to your computer (the applications listed below are available for both PC and Mac platforms). Next, install the software on your machine and then follow the instructions to subscribe to the podcast feed. This is usually as simple as pasting the URL for the GREAT PERFORMANCES feed into a subscribe box (iTunes users can select "Subscribe to Podcast" from the "Advanced" tab in the top menu). Once you've subscribed, the next time your software checks our feed it will download the latest GREAT PERFORMANCES video clip to your computer or portable MP3 player.
