Father of Juliet and head of the Capulet household. Another character whose role has been trimmed in the opera and the film. Given the animus between the Capulets and the Montagues, he seems quite benevolent when he dissuades Tybalt from attacking Romeo at the ball. However, in the play, his authoritarian nature comes to the fore when he angrily reacts to Juliet's refusal to marry Paris and threatens to disown her if she does not do as he bids.
