Romeo Romeo. Played by: Roberto Alagna. My very name is a crime in her eyes. Oh sorrow! Capulet is her father, and I love her.

The son of Lord and Lady Montague, two characters absent from both the opera and the film, who becomes infatuated with Juliet upon seeing her at the Capulets' masked ball. He is so entranced by Juliet that he is undeterred by the fact that she is a Capulet and sneaks back onto the castle grounds to see her again. He soon discovers that Juliet is in love with him, and they decide to marry. Even though Romeo kills her cousin Tybalt in a duel, Juliet forgives him and they wed before Romeo is forced into exile. He returns upon hearing of Juliet's death and poisons himself after seeing her lifeless body in the Capulet crypt.
