A cousin to Juliet whose hatred for the Montagues runs deep. Tybalt's propensity for violence is easily triggered and evidenced by his willingness to fight when he finds Romeo has infiltrated the Capulets' ball. Still seething, he challenges Romeo on their next encounter the following day, but when Romeo refuses to fight, he instead battles and kills Romeo's friend, Mercutio. Romeo then kills Tybalt in retaliation for Mercutio's death.
