Intro Forward Harold Arlen
Harold Arlen (1905-1986)
The son of a cantor, he was celebrated for his ability to utilize African-American rhythms and blues ("Stormy Weather," "Blues in the Night"). Best known for his Academy Award-winning classic "Over the Rainbow," with lyrics by E.Y. Harburg, he also wrote "The Man That Got Away" and "That Old Black Magic." For Broadway, he wrote "Get Happy," "I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues" and "Come Rain or Come Shine."
