Fanny Brice (1891-1951)
The comedienne and singer was born Fanny Borach on New York's Lower East Side. Beloved as a Yiddish-accented clown, a ballad singer of the streets, and a mischievous child named Baby Snooks (which brought her fame on radio), she was one of Flo Ziegfeld's greatest stars, appearing in nine of his "Follies." She popularized the song "My Man" as well as "Rose of Washington Square," "Second Hand Rose," and "Yiddle on Your Fiddle, Play Some Ragtime."
