MY NAME IS BARBRA premiered during December Pledge in 2005 on PBS (check local listings).

GREAT PERFORMANCES is proud to present the two historic musical showcases that brought Barbra Streisand the same unprecedented triumph on television that she had already achieved on Broadway and in recordings. Her first pioneering special, MY NAME IS BARBRA (1965), garnered five Emmys, including the first of several for Streisand personally, as well as her first Peabody Award. The critical acclaim was unprecedented, with United Press International exclaiming, "She is so great it is shocking. She may well be the most supremely talented and complete popular entertainer that this country has ever produced." Streisand's next special the following year, COLOR ME BARBRA, makes its series debut in March 2006.

MY NAME IS BARBRA was the first of five television specials that Barbra Streisand would produce and star in exclusively for CBS, and it marked her emergence as one of the most popular and acclaimed American performers of stage, screen, and music. Among her myriad of achievements since the program's debut in 1965 are two Academy Awards® -- best actress for FUNNY GIRL and best original song for "Evergreen," 49 gold albums, 10 Grammy® Awards, and six Emmy® Awards.

Get an overview of the program and the multifaceted career of the singer, actress, director, and producer in the essay by contributor Jaan Uhelszki. Find all the numbers included in the program, among them such Streisand classics as "People," Happy Days Are Here Again," and Don't Rain on My Parade," in the song list.

Special funding for MY NAME IS BARBRA was provided by the LuEsther T. Mertz Charitable Trust.

Many local PBS stations are offering the DVD and CD of this program as Pledge gifts. To order these items, pledge now.
