Throughout the years, the Tony Awards® have not only recognized the best of Broadway but also, with their annual telecast, created an amazing archive of star performers in their Broadway prime. Now, BROADWAY'S LOST TREASURES II presents more of the showstopping performances culled from decades of Tony Awards® ceremonies. Among the leading men and ladies performing classic numbers from legendary Broadway shows are Patti LuPone in "Anything Goes" from "Anything Goes"; Jerry Orbach as the original Billy Flynn in "All I Care About Is Love" from "Chicago"; Gregory Hines and the cast of "Jelly's Last Jam" in a sizzling show medley; Brent Barrett and Michael Jeter in "We'll Take a Glass Together" from "Grand Hotel"; and other hits from shows like "Les Misérables," "La Cage aux Folles," "Ain't Misbehavin'," and many more.
As with the original, the second installment of BROADWAY'S LOST TREASURES spotlights unforgettable numbers from Broadway musicals of the recent past. But what of the shows running on the Great White Way today? Author and theater professor Thomas Hischak considers how the current crop of Broadway musicals stack up to those of past decades in the essay. Meet the legendary artists who created the music and lyrics to the songs of Broadway in the Encyclopedia of Composers & Songwriters. Find all the performances featured in the program in the song list.
