VITTORIO: DREAMS OF ROME premiered during August Pledge in 2006 on PBS (check local listings).

Born in Rome but raised in Arezzo, near Florence, 28-year-old Vittorio Grigolo has developed a reputation as one of the most talented tenors of his generation. Since adolescence, he has built an extensive career in the international operatic arena, with productions and performances in Europe, Japan, and America. Now, this exciting new operatic talent expands his impressive resume of live performance with a distinguished debut album, VITTORIO. While "popera" artists proliferate left and right, Vittorio's 14-song collection reveals an artist determined to set the creative bar much higher than the predictable efforts of most crossover hopefuls. Scheduled for U.S. release in September 2006, the album has already topped the UK charts. On location at the Roman ruins of Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli, GREAT PERFORMANCES captures Grigolo in peak concert performance, featuring selections from his debut album.

The Italian tenor, whom Pavarotti dubbed "Il Pavarottino" ("Little Pavarotti") and who gained notice for his performances in the operas of Donizetti, Rossini, and Mozart, decided to explore a broader repertoire after appearing in the 2003 production of Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" at La Scala. The result is a CD, recorded in his hometown of Rome, of songs in Italian, Spanish, and English, among them a duet of "You Are My Miracle" ("Il Mio Miracolo") with Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls and renditions of Stevie Wonder's "All in Love Is Fair" and "Maria" from "West Side Story." Check out the music from Vittorio Grigolo's first concert on the series, where he is joined by special guest Linda Király, in the song list.

Many local PBS stations are offering the concert DVD and the CD as Pledge gifts. To order these items,
