Joseph Welch
Joseph Welch was defense counsel for Secretary of the Army Robert T. Stevens. Joseph McCarthy had accused Stevens of blocking his efforts to root out suspected Communists from the military. In the 1954 hearings, Welch helped expose McCarthy's recklessness and cruelty.
