"Daniel Boone" (1734-1820)

Daniel Boone, shown here with his dog and gun, released his memoirs in 1784 entitled The Adventures of Col. Daniel Boone. Ghostwritten by the land speculator John Filson, the account described Boone's exploits in the Kentucky wilderness, and immortalized him as the archetypal American frontiersman. At the time of its publication Boone was fifty years old.
