I've been following Bernie Fursh and his comedy is genius. It's a modern version of the "Woody Allen" style comedy, but his punchlines are stronger. I just saw another video on www.berniefursh.com and www.nyhystericalsociety.com and it's very very funny.

Great historical narrative on Jewish Stand up comedy. I've been trying to keep it alive, because it's naive, intelligent, witty and fun for me and my audience. for more: http://www.berniefursh.com

Great series, " Make em Laugh". Now...how about giving us another series about another part of show business. "The Great Singers". You know, Frank Sinatra, Nat "King" Cole, Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin Billy Esckstein, Peggy Lee, Judy Garland, etc. I think that would be great!

The term 'stand up' originally came from TV's Ed Sullivan Show. It referred to anyone who was introduced from the audience by Ed, because he asked them to "stand up and take a bow" while the audience applauded.

Interesting... but "Stand Up" is not a term invented in the 1970's. It goes back - at least - to the 1940's.
