I am trying to remember an album from the late 70's. It is a Rock Album with a comedy edge based on the german army in the first on second world war (I think the First) I also tink that a track on it is named the Widowmaker.

Haven't seen the show but have to agree with prior comments; any history of American comedy that misses Firesign Theater is seriously flawed.

How can I purchase the "Laughing Record/DVD" from the 60s. I live in a small town and want to own the item so when we have company from our Florida roots, we can put it on upstairs and have fun with it. There are two generations who have never heard of it. I was at lunch from my office one time in Detroit and they had this laughing record play. People literally got up and glanced through the window to the kitchen to see what was going on back there. In a very few minutes, the entire restaurant was in hysterical laughter. I will always remember it!

I back the above comments (as George McGovern famously said about Sen. Tom Eagleton) 110%. The omission of Firesign Theater is glaring. Firesign was also a radio phenom (where they started on the West Coast) and there is no mention of them in the radio section, either. They were a true ear-opener as to what could be done in radio past the sketch comedy that dated back to the 1920s and '30s.

I wholeheartedly believe that the entire premise of the series is SERIOUSLY FLAWED due to the UNFORGIVABLE omission of the Firesign Theatre's oevre. There, I said it.

Thanks to all the people who mentioned Firesign---I thought they deserved some mention in the series, as well as Stan Freberg (PLUS the National Lampoon people, who did albums & stage shows, and practically provided Saturday Night Live w/its original cast).
ALSO---did anyone notice that during the discussion, in the series, of Pryor's old man "Mudbone" character, that the routine shown was actually from "Wino & Junkie", and NOT Mudbone at all? I could be wrong, but it certainly sounded like it (note to producers: Check the "Nigger's Crazy" album for the "Wino" routine, then check the next album, which has the first Mudbone bit on it).

Thanks for mentioning Firesign Theater. As the cowriter of the book and the series, I just want to alert you astute users out there that Firesign Theater is mentioned elsewhere in the companion book to "Make 'Em Laugh" and some choices Rusty Warren bits (no jokes, please) are heard in the first episode of the series as well.

Yeah,Firesign Theatre. THAT'S what many a college DJ played as the whole side of a comedy album while...well,some didn't just get a smoke, either. On a major label(Columbia),too, which marketed FT like any Joplin record. I remember wanting to buy something new with my high school graduation money and the guy behind the record counter put "Waiting for the Electrician..."in my hands. It looked too weird, and, anyway, how many times would someone play a comedy album over and over. I passed then, but a year later,"How Can you Be at Two Places at Once..." was all over the place. As for repeated listenings, I can still listen to "Nick Danger,Third Eye" and find new stuff. After experiencing FT,acts like Cheech and Chong seemed tame, forced and obvious. However,Carlin never disappointed.
