Jack Klugman on the Appeal of The Odd Couple
Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.

Jack Klugman: Well I think everybody can identify with it.  If you got two of the neatest persons in the world, one is a little neater than the other.  So, to him, that guy’s a slob.  So, clean and dirty is very, very important in people’s lives.  Orderly – I have a son.  If he went into your house, first I have to do when I go over to my son’s, I have to take off my shoes.  He’ll fix your pictures, he’ll straighten them out, he does everything.  He must be in control, he’s a control freak.  That’s what he is.  And the other guy is sloppy.  And Tony understood that.  When – he never was, and I say he was neat for himself – he was trying to help you.  His sounds were wonderful.  He knew what comedy was.  I mean he – when he, his sinuses clogged and he made that sound.  And went crazy.  And nobody ever made that sound the way he did.  Jack Leonard, nobody ever did.  So it’s – he understood comedy, and he understood it very, very well.  And that’s why I think we were a big success.

It’s Jack Lemmon, not Jack Leonard!

Happy 87th (!!) Birthday! My husband and I were wondering how old you were in a certain episode of The Odd Couple we watched tonight. I thought 46 or 45, he thought younger, God love ‘im, and you were indeed 46. It was nice to be able to impress my husband with my honed skills at age detection. Anyway, in verifying your age then on Wikipedia, I noticed it was your birthday right now! (Well, “yesterday” to us here in Australia, of course.) I unwittingly celebrated it by teasing out the Odd Couple theme tune on my piano today. I was showing my dog who loved it. I’ve had that music crescendo-ing in my head for two weeks now. Obsessed! Here’s to your continued health. I wish you every good thing under the sun.

Take 2 FINE actors. A supreme script. A libral director: Voila! Hit Sitcom. In my opinion, it takes your better actors to pull off genuine, witty comedy. Jack Klugman proves the piont: he had one of the greatest ranges among American actors of the 20th century. Completely believable.

Tony Randall and Jack Klugman actually did The Odd Couple better than Lemmon and Matthau. I wonder how many people truly get what an impressive (seemingly impossible) feat that is, and tribute to the greatness of the former 2. Both were so talented and understood comedy so well…REAL comedy, not the unoriginal, vulgar sewage that passes for comedy nowdays. Hats off to a great man and great actor.

PS let’s not forget the culinary contributions, and I don’t mean Randall! Who among us hasn’t cooked up their own Goop Melange at one time or another? (Randall’s other contribution was of course musical: happy….and peppy…..)

  • Barbara Freedman

The Odd Couple is my favorite all-time TV show! I just want you to know that I remembered your birthday is the 27th, tomorrow . I wish you a very happy birthday and continued good health.
    Much love and admiration.

Last but not least, a film that gives a freshness, a different message: hunting whales from extinction is wrong. Now I have listened to there was a movie created a few ages in the past, aided by the very same characters and a duplicate message, but it truly is all confused, since it had been made a protracted time in the past. In 1993, the very first Free of charge Willy was in theaters, but within the 1st movie of 1993 due to the fact the Stone Age. Therefore, the theme of this film is original, insightful and stimulating. In 1986, Star Trek film can also be worn on a proclamation “save the whales”, once more, it absolutely was an eternity back, but who remembers?br / Effectively, all that with good enough self-pity to admit that he / she is portion in the supporter base of those films or chooses to not remember or do not care how several times this matter has long been over-used. system might also be big, fat idiots who honestly do not don’t forget. This can be possibly the decadebr / if this film is usually a actual model. What afraid to stand up to his mother, and she even now needs him to dress, undress, and tie his shoes. He can not even require off their shoes alone! It contains a learning difficulty that we do not?br / In case you are the sort who likes to working experience pain, then this film should really be on your very hot checklist.

Thanks for your useful post. Over time, I have been able to understand that the symptoms of mesothelioma cancer are caused by a build up connected fluid between lining of your lung and the torso cavity. The sickness may start inside the chest vicinity and multiply to other body parts. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include weight-loss, severe breathing in trouble, a fever, difficulty swallowing, and infection of the neck and face areas. It ought to be noted that some people having the disease do not experience any serious signs at all.
