Address to United Methodist Church General Conference
April 24, 1996

Then First Lady Hillary Clinton told the United Methodist General Conference in 1996 that her Methodist minister and the church's lay leaders taught her to apply her personal faith to her public life. She said Jesus' teachings and the church's Social Principles prodded her to fight for health care for uninsured children and other policies that "enable each child to have a chance to fulfill his or her God-given potential."
