In Samana Bay in the Dominican Republic, Sir David discusses humpback whale songs with researcher Katy Payne of Cornell University. Only male humpback whales sing. In a particular region, whales sing the same song, which is made up of smaller themes and can last up to a half hour. The songs themselves change over time, differing from year to year, and generally occur during the breeding season.
