Silicon Valley and immigration

Finally she touches on one of the motives, populate the university classes.  This issue has nothing to do with a supposed shortage.  The hiring practices are now racist, MBA required (must be asian).  One insane IT manager insisted his hires come from his home village in India.  One of my departments argued over whether the next hire should be north or south Indian or American born or china born chinese – no talent qualifier, just country of origin.  Another friend complains her HR is eliminating all non-Indian resumes from consideration.  This has nothing to do with talent shortage.

Silicon Valley continues to be the world’s predominant technology center, and is home to both established companies and budding start-ups… however,  visa complications might jeopardize the Valley’s future, especially if these foreign entrepreneurs decide to take their businesses and jobs overseas.  Immigration Policies and guidelines should change to suit 2012 needs. We cannot still use the old laws and procedures that are no longer applicable in today’s economic and scientific needs.
We need to modify the laws. Unfortunately that is what is happening today.
American School Children are still weak in Mathematics and Science and in English too. That is one of the main reasons why Bill Gates opened Microsoft in India, not in China.
When the American company needs qualified people, they hire qualified Foreigners. Why Foreigners?
We do not have qualified and highly skilled Americans. Unfortunately the American companies are not able to keep their word or promises when they hired these highly qualified people. When there is a change in management approach, naturally the ones who started the businesses have to look for opportunities elsewhere. No bird or animal will continue to stay in a desert where there is no water. They migrate. It is natural. American Immigration Laws need change to help everyone in this country.

It is hard to say that all IT people come from India. I came across many from Canada, UK and Europe and Africa. I come across employees from Russia and European countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, etc..
When I studied in University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), my fellow American students used to joke about this. UCLA stands for University of Caucasian, Latinos, and Asians.
I still do not understand why our employers and business entrepreneurs insist on Bilingual when hiring people when the American Business Language is English. Many immigrants came from spanish speaking countries such as Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, South America and settled in America, the land of opportunity.
Ideally they should learn to speak and write English Language Arts. That is how it should be.
I do not understand why Americans should learn Spanish. That is an interesting topic of debate which no politicians like to talk about.
Every problem has a solution. Only thing is we need to find out and look for it.
As an example, I can use the word ‘NOWHERE’ and interpret how it changes the whole meaning
We came from nowhere. We are now here. There comes the difference between an optimist and a pessimist. An optimist looks for opportunity, whereas a pessimist looks at problems.
An optimist says his glass is half full and a pessimist says it is half empty.
An optimist looks for the light, whereas a pessimist puts out the light and says how dark it is.
We cannot play the flute only by blowing; we must use our fingers also. Life is not a holiday.
It is like a Music Concert. Like a keyboard or piano, we must start with the right key.
If we start with the wrong key and begin the concert, we wonder why the music that followed was so bad. Because we started with the wrong key.
We should not forget that America was built on strong education and qualified people .
George Washington was an Englishman but he too had to fight the British to win the American War of Independence. We won the war not alone, but with the help of French.  That is why we have the Statue of Liberty in New York and the Eiffel Tower is in Paris, France.

Another intersting program I saw and watched was on CBS 60 Minutes.
That was the City of El Paso, Texas.  I do not know how old this was but it is true even to this day.

The hospitals in El Paso, Texas have plenty of opportunities for doctors and nurses. But not a single American doctor or nurse is willing to go there and work in El Paso, Texas. Noboday knows why.
The Administrative staff and other support staff members may be Americans (most likely) but the qualified doctors, mostly specialists are Indian doctors. The hospital chief appeared on the 60 minutes and said that he received 500 job applications, not a single one of them was American. Many applicants were Asian doctors from India, Vietnam, and Philippines. It is the American doctor’s option to work or not to work in El Paso. We cannot blame the Asians for that.

Similarly they showed that American Income Tax Returns are being done in other countries. Why? American CPAs charge outrageous fees for preparing the Tax Returns. Our major banks such as Bank of America, Citibank, and Wells Fargo Bank havev set up Call Centers for their Customer Service in India, Philipplines and Mexico When we dial the 800/877 Toll Free numbers, we end up talking to someone in India or Manila or Mexico. Why is that? We want more money, we want higher profit margin.

Our wants and needs and profit margins are so high that we need to find ways to cut down our costs and take the business elsewhere. Whose fault is this?
