Who will make it better?

Do you think Mitt Romney would do a better job managing the economy than Barack Obama?

Tonights broadcast of Need To Know, 10/5/2012, was so refreshing. It was great to finally see and hear the truth about what is really happening in the USA. The mainstream media and the politicians sure know how to deceive and obfuscate the truth to their own political and economic benefit. Thank goodness for PBS and your excellent programing.

  • kdkmom2009

We know from the debate that if candidate Romney is elected then pbs will be totally dependent on private donations; big bird could be filing unemployment. Is his rationale to make those of us who do not have fortunes, dependent on those rich “job creators” that do?? Haven’t we seen enough being taken advantage of??

  • Carole Bahou

Unfortunately, I don’t feel this is regular “recession”, but rather a 21st century
depression, that reflects a relentless and radical change in our entire economic
system. Given technology, globalization, deregulation of the financial services,
and the outrageous CEO pay scale, has created a “new normal”. Former

Pres. Clinton I think most closely presented this to the public – that many of

the jobs we are missing will never return. Given the massive off shoring of jobs, the challenge
seems to be how do we compensate, and make the economy functional for the
99%. I fear it will take a long long time – and the US public has a short attention
span. I don’t think either candidate really knows “how to fix it”, especially since
the corporate sector appears to have usurped governance. It is a scary situation.

Romney is wining even on a PBS poll? Maybe we should sque the numbers to help Obamanation look better? lol

  • Meam

Romney came off as a corporate bully.

  • Dr. PAS

Well, PBS won’t be around long if the Romney camp get in..but don’t worry those fellows will tell everyone what to do with their health issues and pay for your own education if you don’t like the public one your children have to go, and oh be sure the rich folks that know how to play & pay for the tax loop holes don’t get bothered by those poor folks out there on main street. Dang they just are not hard working enough is what they believe ..bunch of victims and whining folks is what they call the Main Street Americans. Just look to DC if you need to find a bunch of adults acting like spoiled brat children.

Obama can’t even balance his own checkbook. You expect him to know what to do about this horrible economy?

Okay, “wining” i can believe to be a typo but “sque”? Come on man!

CSPAN is funded by private donations. Why can’t PBS become a private charity, instead of a govt-run (taxpayer-funded) charity? There surely are enough Liberal millionaires who want to support PBS and its programming. It’s unfair to taxpayers who have no choice in choosing the programming PBS presents.

  • gmw

Government is at the very core of the financial mess that our once great nation is now struggling through. While both major parties share the guilt, the democrat party bears far more guilt than pbs or the lame-stream press would have us believe. Superman would surely have rounded up all of these jack-booted criminal politicians and made short order of them. Oh for a better time in life! Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to
leap tall buildings in a single bound! (“Look! Up in the sky!” “It’s a

Romney does not know Main St., has never had to be part of Main St. Obama grew up on Main Street; he knows the problems, worries, and dreams of folks there. I want someone who can empathize through personal experience, not a wealthy person who never had to know what being part of Main St. is to lead in this area.

Finally, PBS is telling what “We, the People think!” I used to go to PBS to get Unbiased News, but I don’t anymore, because even PBS is biased towards obama. Bill Moyers “used to be a good journalist”, reported things “just” as they were, but because of his left-wing liberal leanings, I’ve quit donating to PBS, myself, and I’ve loved PBS. I’m turning away from PBS, which is a shame. I bet more are too…

Why does Need to Know and PBS in general, ignore the other third party candidates? Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate has dynamic ideas, and alot of folks seem to think Gary Johnson and the LIbertarians have good ideas as well. Perhaps these and other third party candidates don’t have a great chance of winning the election (lack of media attention does little to help with this) but they may just have some fresh ideas that could make big differences. Is it really going to bring about Armageddon to listen to these folks for a change???
Wake up PBS! How about some fairness and respect for our democratic principles?

The economy needed time to begin recovering. It was fake for 8 years and it took 2 years to stop the bleeding. No matter who’s in office 2013 growth will begin. If Romney is in office he’ll benefit for the work Obama and Biden did. Why would anyone give our economy back to the very people who got us in this mess?

Let’s stop paying oil companies billions they are billionaires and we know they can support themselves.

Romney became rich by stealing people pensions and closing businesses. He never started a business without a huge gain or loss monetary award. And when a person states behind close doors you are lazy after you serve this country or is elderly but late in the light changes his story is an outright lier. Doesn’t bother you that he’s willing to lie and saying anything to get your vote and tomorrow will be raising your taxes. Wake-up. He told what he believed in the dark.

  • Nate R

Yes, because the quality of programming on C-SPAN compares to that of PBS. And they represent less than 0.01% of our federal budget. There must be something more pressing that you are mad about.

  • Gen

And I guess oil companies aren’t filling the pockets of republicans with taxpayer money.

  • Gen

And Romney wouldn’t know how to save a company. All he’s interested in is stealing people retirement. His daddy gave him a millions after college but he tells the country that he never had a handout. Are you serious?

This election is so critical that Americans should vote not as a republican or democrat but rather vote for someone who has real concern for this country beyond their partisan belief. As an undecided voter I looked at Jill Stein and she has more sense than Romney and Obama but lacked publicity and financial capacity to gain attention and electability.

Everyone needs help. Some look more to the Federal Government and others support private industry for a growing GNP. So there are two enterprise work camps where one pays taxes as a reward for productivity and the other out spends taxes partially through tax paying employees. The Government camp is growing faster than private industry. Can we direct the positive direction of a traditional free enterprise economy without excessive subsidy and debt?

Things were looking excellent end of 1999
    https://www.cbo.gov/sites/default/files/cbofiles/ftpdocs/49xx/doc4912/doc06.pdf
and 2008, (GOP still at the wheel) the CBO forecast is for a bad economy going forward:
    http://www.cbo.gov/sites/default/files/cbofiles/ftpdocs/89xx/doc8917/01-23-2008_budgetoutlook.pdf
When you take a look at 2008 CBO and take into account the 2008 republicon collapse due to allowing financial system to regulate itself, those associated costs plus interest; the costly/unnegotiated Medicare Part D (republicons didn’t want to negotiate with drug companies for lower cost which is succesfully done by the VA), then add in continued bush tax cuts with result of decreased revenue, the tax cuts which was 40% of the stimulus, other Obama tax cuts- for example cutting payroll tax and credit for college tuition, add in bush’s war costs which bush administration funded via suplimentals, vs putting it on budget like Obama did…that’s where you’ll find the majority of the deficit increase under Obama.
Anyone who thinks Romeny would be better just like Romney’s theatre because Romney has no credibility.

But if all disaffected voters voted their hearts and actually thumbed their noses at the control of mainstream media and corporate millions in elections, Dr. Stein would gain immense publicity and a message would be sent to those who want to see the status quo reign supreme. Stein/Honkala are on the ballot in enough states to control the Electoral College, they qualified for matching campaign funds, Dr. Stein has even won a debate against Romney in their gubernatorial matchup.
You lose exactly every game your team fails to show up for so “electability” is a matter of perspective.

Not as quickly as Obama is shoveling $$ to Green boondoggles. $90billion>$2.5billion

  • mbett

Oil cos. get $2 billion in subsidies mostly to smaller drillers in form of tax credits. How about the $2 billion Obama gave to Brazilian oil co. to drill for oil, or the $90 billion he’s squandered on green energy boondoggles like Solyndra? Oil cos. get a drop in the bucket compared to the WASTE Obama has created! Govt shd not be picking winners and losers, and in Obama’s case, he only knows how to pick losers w/our money. Plus much of the $90 billion in stimulus money went to Obama’s biggest donors!. Obama the most corrupt sleazy politician on the planet.

  • Ashton Lively

Obama gave the green industry 50x more $ (90billion vs 2.5 billion) than the oil industry received.

  • ozrok

I don’t remember this many Republican trolls being on PBS. Guess it must be the “Big Bird” thing? Republicans are so good at giving rational people the big bird though.

  • ozrok

I guess Glenn Beck has a new website…

  • Anonymous

Solyndra wasn’t a boondoggle but suffered from unique economic factors that affected our entire economy in general. Oil, gas, coal and even hydro have benefitted from almost 100 yrs of subsidies and had that time to establish themselves. Hardly this drop in the bucket you refer to!! Solar, wind and biofuels are being asked to establish themselves in a environment where many are openly hostile (to losing profits no doubt) in a much shorter timespan and with a fraction of the monetary propping up. Other nations are fully supporting not only building up their alternative energy infrastructures but supporting their nation’s alt energy industries as well. China, for one, is deeply subsidizing their solar industry and for this reason, their products are undercutting our production costs, as in Solyndra’s and other American, or American-made photovoltaic products. My city gave tax subsidies to a German PV manufacturer that has found it cannot compete with cheap Chinese goods. Sound familiar? This is happening throughout our manufacturing sector. Solyndra rolls off your tongue because it’s the whipping dog of the right but there are many others who have received stimuli, tax-deferments, etc. These are American businesses that are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

PBS is a non-profit. If you make them just another for-profit media, you lose the high standard they have in reporting; PBS is seen as the most credible source currently. PBS news would be funded by the American Enterprise Institute and American Petroleum Institute, by the fracking companies, etc. and reporting suffers.
There are other public institutions that receive public funding and republicons don’t put up a stink. Nascar got their corporate welfare, Exxon, GE, congress critters direct investment so that they benefit themselves: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/15/us/politics/15issa.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 sports stadiums are built on taxpayers back….I can list thousands of other examples.
Really, do we need to worry about the .00016% of our nation’s budget that goes to PBS, especially when there is a real benefit to the service it provides?

  • Huss Family

Sad logic. Real leadership could have, should have effected much more positive change. This is the most lackluster “recovery” we have seen in recent history; typically the deeper the recession the more robust the recovery. Growth will begin when the economy gets the monkey off its back, literally and figuratively. Want to see an economy really ROAR, not whimper? Day after Romney gets elected. Scott R. Baker, Nicholas Bloom and Steven J. Davis, “Uncertainty and the Economy,” Hoover Institution, October 2, 2012. It was not “people” that got us into this mess, or parties – it was feckless progressive economic policies (TARP, stimulus, bailouts, spiralling deficit spending) practiced by GWB. Obama’s strategy has been to double down on those policies (more of the same! brilliant!). It’s time for a new direction and policies of fiscal sanity and responsibility, and real leadership at the helm. Real leaders? Get organizations working, turn around failing enterprises, and get people working TOGETHER. They don’t sit and whine about how it’s everyone else’s fault and noone will play by their rules. It can happen. Romney has made a career out of making it happen. And he can do it for America. Our kids deserve so much better than a bankrupt crade to grave nanny state and a boatload of broken promises.

  • Huss Family

As I mentioned above, Frances, we need to all be Americans. It was not “Republicans” that created our debt; it was failed progressive policies practiced by a Republican. So noone, Democrat or Republican, is going to save our economy with a double dose of more progressive economic insanity. We need to vote for real proven leadership ability, a real track record of SUCCESS in turning around failing systems and organizations and making them (and people) WORK again. Obama ain’t it. And if I wanted someone who really CARED about people? Obama ain’t it either. I’d want Romney to have my back ANY DAY. He’s lived his life giving and helping others. Again, actions speak a whole lot louder than words. Just ask Obamas brother George who couldn’t even get the time of day out of his brother when he needed help for his son’s medical bills.

  • Mach 1

I hope all of you Romney supporters wake up to the chilling fact that if elected, he is going to send our sons and daughters to fight in Syria and Iran. But don’t expect to see any of his Mormon children and grandchildren deployed over there, they’ll be vacationing on Romney’s untaxed Swiss, and Cayman Islands cash.

….once again, just like Bush, 2 more unfunded wars.

Umm.. no, actually they aren’t. Engage your brain for a moment. Oil companies, as well as all other kinds of companies, fill the pockets of politicians of every stripe with THEIR OWN money. Politicians in turn, use their influence to do favors for their donors. This often manifests as tax breaks, etc. So less is collected. But that’s not the same as corporate welfare being paid out as subsidies. Public Broadcasting gets $445,000,000. and, correct me if I’m wrong, pays NO corporate income taxes. But there’s around $100 billion annually in corporate subsidies. Much needs to be cut! See here:

The economy was doing welll under Bush UNTIL the congress was taken over by Democrats in 2006! Congress holds the pursestrings and the filibuster proof majority given to dear Leader Obama was the nail in the economic coffin. The housing bubble started under the guidance of the Clinton initiative for more minorities owning houses. The regulations for mortgages by Fannie and Freddie were relaxed and people without qualifying income were getting loans. The influx of new buyers caused prices to skyrocket above any “real” value. This is what is about to happen with student loans. The Government now has total control over college loans and tuition has increased by 25% as more tax money is poured into universities and colleges.

Its easy to ignore the past for individual hopes of tomorrow. Sadly, the fact that someone is willing to lie to the American people, time and again, does not deter those who would choose them, despite the reality that He has no dedication to people, only personal esteem and family legacy. One Man-One Vote-One Boat (Us All). Where would we be if the ‘so called adults’ in D.C. had followed there own history and voted for their constituents instead of being dedicated to a focus on one man and his destruction? Where would you be? Where would your parents and teens be?

We (America) can reach out our arms of compassion and empathy across thousands of miles to other continents, and send money across the globe to maintain relations with gov’ts that would kill us if we didn’t drive cars. We can smile to the world and well them in and nurture relationships 5k miles away, but in this Nation, this Land (of the free and caring) we would no doubt stab our brother in the back. why? Because we listen to people who don’t know us, don’t hear us, don’t listen to us, and mostly don’t care until they need our vote. And we allow them to shape our opinions of people we see daily, who will stop if we have a flat, who will bring us food if we run into a bad place, and who will sacrifice if we find ourselves in dire need. Yet, we slash each others throats–FOR WHAT? FOR WHO? Because our Senator, our Rep cares about us? Yet we vote ONLY FOR OURSELVES. And your Reps vote only for themselves. Its on the record.

Sociopathic greed, serial killers mentality towards money, insatiable greed/quest for more and more money, no matter what.

Compare, if we had a child that hordes all of the toys, taking away from all the other children, so that no other child would have any. and desperately kept looking for more and more.

This child grows up, now causing our society problems, as a banker, an oil trader, venture capitalist, etc.

News Break, ….zombie attacking billionaires, insatiable quest for money,
    …more money, ….more,
    …aaahg …more!!!

Sociopathic greed ends with large portions of society being seriously harmed. Just look around, you can’t miss it.

Please go and vote! Remember hire your neighbors, change our country to work for the people and by the people.

  • Heathen

Huss Family….please quit speaking you are spreading deadly waves of stupidity. It would be so easy but take so long to refute all of his comment, which has become a strategy for modern conservatives, but I will hit on a couple points.

“Typically the deeper the recession the more robust the recovery.” Which is why the biggest recession in modern history, the Great Depression, took over 10 years and the massive government spending of WW2 to get us out of it.

“It was not “people” that got us into this mess, or parties – it was
feckless progressive economic policies (TARP, stimulus, bailouts,
spiraling deficit spending)….” Yeah, it wasn’t the massive amount of toxic liar loans that executives made millions by pushing on people who didn’t know better and wanted a home of their own only to lose it and everything else when they found that they had been lied to when they were told that they could afford the payments. It wasn’t the exotic investment vehicles, like credit default swaps, used by financial institutions which led to the collapse of Lehman Bros. and AIG and which made necessary the bailouts of the TARP bill. No, it was liberals and their PROGRESSIVE policies.

For a person to make a comment such as Huss Family’s he has to have been completely deceived by those who he gets his news from, e.g. Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, or it has to be a strategy of misinformation to deceive those who do not or are unable to take the time to inform themselves through research and reasonable common sense.

It is my opinion that it is the strategy of modern conservatism to insert so much misinformation into the discourse that it is impossible to refute it all, leaving its critics wasting time and effort on defending its positions. This strategy was observable in the recent presidential debate.

Citizens can Vote us back too life again.
We All matter, and are Individually important. And this is how “We the People” can Change out corrupt politicians. Always Claiming Dirty Accusations against one another, of course If true, then None of them are any good to begin with, and they can’t be trusted! If false, of course, then they were lying again, and can’t be trusted! A political blood bath, greedily fighting over power. We know deep in our hearts you can’t trust any of them. we try to pick the one that will do the least amount of damage. They’re advertised in your face at every election with billions of dollars from corporations, Billionaires, and other sources, countries, China, Etc. It’s an obscene greedy power struggle. We citizens can fix this problem by running our own country. By electing a proxy. What is a proxy? You are a proxy, I am a proxy, your Neighbor is a proxy, its somebody Not in Politics, no politicians! The proxy only listens to the people, and pushes the button that we the people tell him or her to push. No politics, no agenda, no sides. We the people are Not Inclined to screw ourselves over. Politicians will always be in the back room with big companies, thugs, and god knows who. We can Never Trust Them!!! We can use a system to Communicate Direction on Matters to Our Proxy, similar to online banking, except the results of the tally would be viewable to the public, that’s all of us Citizens.
We could allow the detail level to be as much or as little as We Individually Choose. Personally, I would keep my tally detail level completely open. Except for super hot issues, for example Abortion rights, gay rights, etc. And just like the banks use, you could also use a regular phone to call and make selections by voice or keypad. we are smart enough as a people to work it out. We shorten term limits for example governor one year, etc. For us citizens this would be kind of like a jury duty, sort of. One of you citizens/proxy will keep the seat warm, you collect a check, and you push the buttons that all of us citizens tell you to push. The tally data is public, no back room Deals. Over 18 million Florida Citizens, running our state, by the people, for the people. This is how we can, and will, turn our country around, and have the roads once again as said, paved in gold. We can do the same with Senators and congressman. Replace The bad ones with Citizen/proxies. Then over 300 million of us United states citizens would be running our own country!

Many of the posts are of an anti-pbs nature but we are supposed to believe that they are just your basic PBS viewer? It is obvious from the many comments on this topic and from the poll
results that there is a concerted effort to skew the results of this
poll. Anybody who puts any credence into these online polls or who would make use of them in their news program is doing a disservice to themselves or their programs.

I think it’s pretty obvious Romney can do a better job. Just look at his record in Mass and what he did with the Salt Lake City Olympics. What has Obama done other than continue to increase our deficit so that our grandchildren don’t have a prayer. The question is a no-brainer. The man who knows how to run a business and make a profit can surely do a better job than Obama…and he could probably do it better with one hand tied behind his back.

If I owned a candy store and the manager of my candy store was not managing it correctly and I was losing money I would not rehire him. We can’t afford more of the same. We need a new manager for the store. I say give Romney four years. If he can’t do it, we get another guy in there. The current president wants to give away the candy store. We are falling dangerously close to collapse. Wake up everyone we need a “change”.

If big companies would care about what is happening in the united states they would put more in the pockets of Americans and a little less in their own. If they would not be so greedy they could hire more workers to could buy more of their products. All they care about is what they put in their pockets and the pockets of there stock holders the hell with the American people. When their sales go down they just raise their price and make the same amount. Good for them but they are pushing America into poverty. Romany will lead the country further to this problem.

The real problem is our Congress, Its time to stand up America and take action and tell the Goverment its time for term limits. The republican party has blocked almost everything the Persident has to accomplish. 100 yrs of Tax brakes for the oil and natural gas companys, and the Rich, is enough. Obama despises capitalism and said nobody deserves to be successful. He wants everyone to be a govt slave. No thanks! Give me capitalism, free markets and individual liberty.

  • Ellen K

It has become obvious that this administration doesn’t know how to do anything but tax and create more government jobs. That bureaucracy can vote its own raises and use money they earn from taxes paid by folks like me to support Obama. It’s time to change that. Profits are not evil. Profits grow companies and create jobs. The last thing we need is another liberal program. The ones that we have are bleeding us dry.

  • Ellen K

Care to explain why so many of our industries are in places like Russia or Korea?

  • Ellen K

Term limits would go a long way to changing that paradigm.

Disney owns the licensing rights to Sesame Street. They make billions off of products bearing Big Bird, Elmo et al. Why should we the people have to pay to perpetuate a program that has become little more than an advertisement for Elmo? Sesame Street the program today is a pale relative to what it used to be. And if Big Bird is what it’s all about, let’s consider that Mickey Mouse has survived without any public assistance. It’s a bogus take that you hold. To say PBS doesn’t have advertisers is to ignore the ten minutes of corporate sponsors who run upscale ads between every show. If PBS has programming people want, it would be marketable. If not, then there are many other places for such programming to go.

  • Ellen K

Go look up Daniel Pink’s “A Whole New Mind.” You can find excerpts on YouTube. It was written in 2006 and outlines exactly what we are seeing now. What used to be safe middle income jobs like engineering, law and accounting can now be done a world away just as efficiently and much cheaper. Technology has made these jobs obsolete as middle class jobs in this country. Sorry, but it’s true.

  • Ellen K

Actually I do watch PBS on occasion. I enjoy British comedies, but they only show the really good ones during their annoying pledge drives. During holidays, when they might attract more audience with interesting programming, they far too often resort to this sort of public begging. If I thought it really went to programming I liked, I would donate. But having done so before only to see the shows I liked disappear, it’s obvious to me that PBS chooses to promote those shows it wants to promote or that their donations signal they want to promote. From that action it is clear they are just like other networks in that they don’t support unpopular shows. So why should they not suffer and celebrate like any other station without taxpayer support?

  • Ellen K

Really. Would you care to elaborate because the analogy doesn’t take into account that we are both stockholders AND stakeholders.

  • marybet

Obama knows zero of economics or how businesses create jobs. He thinks dumping money on donors or friends (like Solyndra) is how jobs get created. It’s how jobs are destroyed. This president doesn’t have a clue and last week’s debate proved he’s not that smart without speechwriters & his teleprompter. The #EmptyChair was on full display Wed. night!

  • Ellen K

Obama has created more casualties in Afghanistan with his ROE than Bush ever did. Even Leon Panetta is discouraged that our president doesn’t show the military respect. And as for backing people up, I guess you simply overlooked that Obama and his staff ignored the pending danger to the Libyan diplomat who was later killed and tried to blame it on a video. Sorry, Obama has absolutely no reason to say he knows what he’s doing. He’s proven ably that he does not.

    Your own reporting said it
was the Republican party in the House that blocked or voted down funding for
wind power ; however, your reporting failed to mention the reasons behind it -
being that, Republicans obtain most of their campaign from more traditional
sources such as oil, coal, nuclear,
natural gas industries with billionaires leading the way like the Koch
Brothers. The Republicans have filibustered, blocked, upheld appointments and
anything else the Obama Administration has tried to do….. the Republican
Party are willing to undermining the economy including Main Street, for their
self-serving political careers, their grab for power at any cost. That is what the Independents and Undecided
voters should have paid closer attention to back 2010.

The candidates speak of how things where 4 years when Lehman Bros collapsed along with the economy. I don’t blame Pres Obama for what happened uner Bush. Both candidates are overoptimistic on economic recovery. I find Gov Romney a less believable manager. I’ll stay with Obama.

  • Anonymous

Gov. Romney has been a turnaround specialist of large organizations–including no less than the Olympics–for years. That’s why he’s running—he wants to offer that to a country that truly needs it. Obama is not that; he’s largely been president of the Special Interests, not Mainstreet. And Biden is merely a clown who should not be a heartbeat away from the prez seat. And Paul Ryan is a master at budgets—which is perfect for a nation with trillion-dollar deficits. These two really seem Heaven-sent to be exactly what we need in these critical times.
If you’re undecided (or not sure about your Obama choice), this is the only thing to consider. It is at the heart of any decision for president in 2012.

PBS gets some 92% of its operating $$ from private sector. There really is NO need to borrow their last 8% from China. They make hundreds of millions off of merchandising, as well. They can operate without tax dollars and remain non-profit just fine. If you want to go into debt more with China to pay 8% for BigBird, then they have lost sight of the big picture and should probably start over and rethink your whole idea of what exactly this country is going thru economically.

Numbers don’t lie. Our debt has ballooned under the inept Obama administration. Time to get somebody else in the driver’s seat. If we don’t stop bleeding money, pretty soon it won’t matter what’s worth funding, because we simply won’t be able to afford ANY of it.

  • Tom Z

Mitt scares the heck out of me. He promises jobs, BUT what kind? More jobs that are low pay/low benefit jobs that only increase the wealth of the owners. Real life example: WalMart. Part of their orientation for new employees is to tell them how to apply for food stamps and government sponsored health care. Ah, but Mitt plans to take those programs away from the 47% who see themselves as victims. So, yes, the so-called rich as some Republicans like to call the, indeed, rich will most likely benefit from Romney’s plans. However, in reality, no one really knows what they are because he won’t be specific.
And Big Bird. PBS is 1/100th of the Federal Budget. So let’s see. At that rate Mitt will have to come up with 9,999 other similar programs to cut. Go R&R (Romney&Ryan). Well at least the people in Massachusetts will have Romney care to help them out. No wait, that must be a bad program. Mitt rails against Obamacare even though Romney care was the model for Obamacare. Gosh this all gets so confusing!

First of all with the economy as bad as it was when Obama took over it is impossible to completely turn it around in 4 years. After the great depression it took two terms for the President to make it happen. Mitt Romney has a poor record in Massechucetts when Governor. Was he successful in business? Ask the employees whose jobs were gone over night. Why do the oil and coal companies have good tax rebates and wind and solar don’t when the Republicans in congress refuse this? There go more jobs. Romney does not back this move forward. We have to face we are entering a new era where we will be using up our oil, won’t be able to continue to escalate housing prices as we were doing. We are in a competitive market with the rest of the world (China is now focused on increasing wind energy). Obama has moved us forward at a realistic speed, saved the auto industry and I feel he is the best choice to continue to get us out of the depressed economy we were in due to unregulated mortgage, banking businesses as well as wall street. He is the best choice for the U.S. to get stable and move forward.

Obama says that Republicans are against women, because they do not support free contraceptives and abortion. He also says that Republicans are “racist” and hate people of color. However, this is all DEMAGOGUERY. The FACTS are that Latino women are among the hardest hit because of Obama’s failed economic policy. Unemployment rate for Latino women went up from 7.5% in Sept. 2008 to 10.5% in Sept. 2012. I will vote for Mitt Romney because I do not need a President to pay for my life choices, but someone who will create the conditions so that our economy grows and I can find a good job. Romney is my only hope!

  • flamingofarm

Presidents do not create jobs, the economy grows and so do jobs based on demand for products and services. Americans forgot that the demand they create are supporting the economies of other countries, goods they now producte that use to be made here and employ Americans! They also forget that we llive in a nation that continues to grow in population, continues to lose jobs due to technology and now have entered a gobal economy which many are not sure what effect that will have. Don’t blame a President for job loss, we know they change things only when they take us to war or make government bigger……….Americans supporting the goods from other natiions, services from other nations are the vehicle for job loss and coule be the vehicle for bringing America back to America.! What part of the above equation do Americans not understand?

And what caused Obama to have to spend money? How is Romney going to fight the next war, borrow again from China or raise taxes that was the normal way until Bush did not. This is the key, “Obama’s lawsuit was one element of a national “anti-redlining” campaign…argued that banks unfairly refused to lend money to people living within so-called “redlines” around African-American communities.”
Banks and realestate agencies are not supposed to discriminate between potential white/minority home owner!!! If you had a good source and the ability to discern, you’d know that Obama has not only continued bush tax cuts, added more tax cuts on top of those cuts…the “stimulus” was actually 40% tax cuts, and most of the rest of the money going to states. States did things like build roads, pay for teachers and fire-fighters, and states paid off state debt with those funds. Part of the stimulus was a tax credit of $2,500 for college costs.
Obama keeps telling you he won’t raise your taxes unless you NET more than $250,000. And, on the amount over $250,000. If you net $350, 000, you have a tax cut on the first $250,000, and then on the remaining $100,000 it’s about $3,000 more…for that lucky person who has net of $350,000 per year.
    Is that you?

This administration has no idea how to fix the economy. Printing more money to cover debt will eventually devalue the labor of every citizen of these United States. Will cause the common man to have less and less quality of life. We need to have a government that measure success not on how many citizens are on food stamps and assistancebut, how few are on food stamps and assistance. Not on how many citizens work for the government but, how many work for themselves.

  • Frankthinks

President Obama, our president, took office at a time of domestic decline. It should have been no surprise to him as he was a member of the senate at the time of his election and there was no question in Congress as to the impending problems. He offered little leadership in this regard which is the job he was elected to perform. To further complicate our accelerating domestic problems, he was not able to recruit government department heads who could change the dynamics inspite of a congress of his party that inclined to support his efforts. Because of domestic sector failures and more importantly, lack of leadership, we should not continue to put support in this person. I really don’t have positive feelings yet about Romney as he has yet to share his vision of the next four years but on the other hand, neither has President Obama.
President Obama, in my opinion, has not chosen leadership pathways of action, on behalf of our nation in the international arena either. Although Mitt Romney has no experience in this area, he might be inclined to select foreign service sector team members that will better execute leadership agendas for our nations’ best interest.

Obama doesn’t so much do a flip flop….he just says one thing and does another….then is not truthful about what he did. The lies are just amazing especially when debunked by factcheckers. We have certainly learned to do research during the 44th’s reign. Truth can be elusive if you don’t do your own research.

Yeah, that’s why Obama Regime hires a consultant from BAIN CAPITAL, Clinton praises the work of Bain Capital, tens of thousands of jobs created, companies saved & every business school grad is dying to get a job at BAIN. Read the tally here: http://on.wsj.com/SMh1WY

You exaggerate a tad. http://www.cnbc.com/id/46035525/ consultant used as a temporary measure to look at GM dealerships. To get outside opinion is not the same as the tactic Bain used to kill US manufacturing in these examples: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/greed-and-debt-the-true-story-of-mitt-romney-and-bain-capital-20120829
I don’t care who praises Bain. Even if Mother Theresa had praised Bain, it wouldn’t change the fact that Bain destroyed jobs, lives and took taxpayer’s dollar’s as bailout when they raided pension funds, and further games finances. Sure, people who want to make tons of money and are ok with raiding companies to do so would want to work at Bain.
WSJ identifies flaws in Romney’s job claims. Plus, it doesn’t say how many Bain killed. The value of a job as pizza place and staples…min wage, vs higher union steel wages and associated jobs that would be there to support a steel plant…pipefitters…other technical postions are jobs that actually pay a living wage and are important for strong US competition (vs chinese steel) We should not be importing things that make us depend on China!
Staples…big deal, plenty of other retail…it is manufacturing that is higher value.

It’s important for voters to see Mitt Romney and Barack Obama in a venue debating their own ideas without outside forces protecting or sabotaging them. It’s just the candidate out there, no one to blame but themselves if they can’t inspire American voters to follow them and their vision, while measuring the results of their past performance. Past behaviors, performance and results will likely determine what the future holds for each candidate and whether voters trust their abilities.

Not that you care about facts and reason, but the OMB looked at the financial picture at the end of 2008 and projected that deficits would increase based on the crapper we were in at the end of 2008. Every year, even if there is no addition to the deficit, interest accrues on the debt created by past (most republicon presidents – Reagan and W) Obama added to the deficit, sure….but there was a major structural crack in the economy, loss in revenue from major job losses through 2007 and 2008, plus bush tax cuts extended by Obama. Add in the war costs and increasing medical costs and that’s where the blame lies for the majority of the deficit. To blame Obama is unfair.

  • Rae

I have a family member who has been a tax consultant for 40 years and we discussed and both agreed that IF Romney gets rid of the EIC and other credits/deductions that would mean that middle class people would pay MORE. (they would no longer have these deductions and credits to help them out). He does NOT make clear/identify how he intends to pay for his proposed tax cuts. Its not that hard to understand….his taxed policy is fu*k#d up!!!

His idea of government is legitimizing the theft of money from people who have worked hard for it to give it to those that don’t. As a person who works hard for their money,I very much resent that type of criminal behavior.

Were you just as diligent when it came to the Iraq war supposidly going to be paid with oil? That’s what you were told back then. Iraq war cost is easily 1 trillion, but if you take into account taking care of vets with severe injuries, including head injuries, ptsd for the rest of their lives, and replacing equipment, estimates range from a total cost of 3-6 trillion.

Wrong. there was a majority in numbers for only 24 days. http://factleft.com/2012/01/31/the-myth-of-democratic-super-majority/ besides, we have some blue-dog dems who vote republicon.
Not initiative for minority ownership. What you are confused with is the regulation that banks and realestate agents can not descriminate on homeowners in minority neighborhoods. That is called red-lining. Check your facts before you continue to spread false notions.
Housing bubble was banks’ fault because they were able to create any mortgage they wanted (problem was lack of regulation) then, they sold those mortgages and scammed the buyers of those papers. The cut mortgages in pieces, rigged the ratings with the help of US ratings agencies and sold them all over the world and to US pensions…etc. Then, when job losses and healthcare issues lead to people’s inability to pay their mortgage, banks actually made more by foreclosure vs re-writing mortgage. Health problems are the #1 cause of foreclosures.
There is no “take-over of college loans”. We were giving banks money to administer (process paperwork) for the loans, even though the banks took fees from the students for that. The US taxpayer was also insuring those student loans…the banks had no risk at all! The US government cut out the middle-man (banks) and processes the loans, has reduced total costs, and those savings went to increase Pell Grants! Just like Medicare (government run) has lower overhead than Medicare Advantage is run by for-profit corporations, it is not government run…and it is much higher cost because it is for profit. That 716$ billion in republicon commercials is Obama’s reduction in the subsidy (corporate welfare) paid to the for profit Medicare Advantage corporations.

wrong. The economy was not a specifically directed hardship to Latino women. VS the republicon direct fight against equal pay for women (Lilly Ledbetter). Your side also creates a myth that Dems discriminate against stay at home moms, which is ridiculous. Republicons want to make life difficult for immigrants-legal and illegal, yet have to appease big industry that likes immigrants for cheap labor.
Liberals don’t say all republicons are racists, but if there are racists, they are likely republicon. There is a difference.
As far as insurance paying for birthcontrol, you’d think republicons would like that as it prevents abortion. Also, many institutions that cried about having to cover birthcontrol had that exact same coverage in previous plans.

Running the US as a for profit institution is the last thing you should be asking for.
First thing for profits do is cut costs: Cut EPA so fossil fuels can dump toxins on your land and into your water (and reduce their costs) Stop testing water also cuts costs. Less inspection of imports means we get more foreign bugs to devastate US crops. Cut the US Department of Energy and we get more loose nuclear material for potential dirty bombs. Privatize Social Security, Medicare and Schools and run them as for-profit. Management costs go up (profit goes in their pockets), and accountability goes down. First thing that is cut is the quality of education. Private for profit Social Security managers will take off management fees, ooops, bet Social Security money on losing stock and your benefit takes the hit. You would not have any recourse for your loss.
Roads and US water sold to France-This is already happening in States. Roads built by US taxpayers sold cheap to foreign corporations, and user fees go to those countries.

Where do those people that are voting “no” live? U6 unemployment rate 15%+, gas $4+ a gallon, energy prices, taxes, health insurance all going up…wake up people….all this great economic news under Obama.

The only reason a person would vote for Obama is because he’s the leader of their team, just like a Penn State fan, pull for their team no matter what, believing their lying leaders straight to hell.

  • http://twitter.com/Trochilus Trochilus

Let me see if I get this straight. A highly taxpayer subsidized public broadcasting organization, one which currently relies for it’s survival on continuing public taxpayer subsidies to underscore even it’s “news” programming, as well as being obviously very highly dependent on foundation grants from those relying on the secondary (but substantial) public benefit of tax exemption offered to it’s donors, posts an on-line poll on the organization’s own website, asking whether Mitt Romney or Barack Obama would do a better job of managing the economy.

Consider a few facts: The two candidates views on continuing “direct” subsidies were made very clear (in the first debate) before this “poll” was posted. It seems pretty clear that the impetus for the poll was somewhat closely related thereto, no?

Also, consider the fact that those visiting this PBS site are obviously far more likely to be PBS groupies and fans, and, therefore, they far more likely to be in favor of continuing those subsidies.

The inescapable conclusion seems to be that there was an effort by PBS to”fix” this poll by dangling it in front of an audience, the majority of which consists of those who are in favor of continuing PBS subsidies.

In other words, it is not as if a polling outfit was trying to get an accurate and neutral measure of public attitudes toward who is likely best equipped to “manage” the economy. The question was being asked to those who are heavily weighted toward those most likely to favor the continuing subsidization of PBS.

This poll is an example of exactly why the public subsidization of organizations like PBS is inherently corrupt. Why? Because I am forced to pay money to subsidize PBS, so that they can conduct “polls” that are likely to underscore support for themselves and the candidate they want to see elected.

  • IceSphere

  • Anonymous

So, who hires them? Go after the employers. Facism is when the corporations pull the strings of the gov. You can bet that Golden Plump and other big meat processing plants, Green Giant… use illegals. Bottom line—they don’t want to pay you a living wage. They like illegal immigrants who do the work and are too scared to complain about working conditions. It is great for the facists.
What is pitiful is that you seem to hate immigrants and don’t know that they are mostly farmers who can’t compete with the cheap US corn that is dumped in Mexico. (NAFTA did that) They come here to feed their families, and I bet you would do the same. McCain had a warmer heart than you. He knows most US citizens wouldn’t want to do the same field work as immigrants.
I have always supported vets. First, I don’t think they should be put in the meat grinder for no reason. Iraq and Afghanistan occupation was not necessary. Then, if they are in the meatgrinder, they should have adequate equipment, which under Rummy they didn’t. One soldier said they had to use junk to fortify jeep, Al Franken and Sher did charity events to get helmet inserts to (If I recall it was Army). That is pathetic. Then, I followed how one contractor got contract for body armor despite dragon skin being better…because of politics. I have great memory of how US military is abused in war and at home. I watch Winter Soldiers on Youtube CRY about the fiasco in Iraq, where they know they killed innocent civilians. I use my voice re the homeless and disabled. Republicons don’t rate very high if you look at actual Veteran groups. Republicons fight the combat pay issues, fight to prevent agent orange being covered…etc…etc.
If you look at statistics, people got rich off the war – Eric P of Blackwater…there are dozens of those war contractors. You know it is $400 per gallon of gas. You know contractors do work that soldiers used to do? Soldiers don’t get paid the hundreds of thousands in salary that contractors get. We were warned of Military Industrial Complex.
We wouldn’t have a financial problem if it weren’t for facists and people like Romney who is a human chop-shop. 250$ million not enough. His advisors include the same neo-cons that held hands with Bush and got us 2 wars. Those neocons will find Romney cooperation when they want to go to war with Iran.
Don’t need to worry about the pennies spent on PBS as we have huge structural problems and the people that caused them have not gotten enough money or flesh. I’ll never Vote Republicon.

No, it wouldn’t because you’d have juveniles in office and they would be steam-rolled by the lobbists. Let’s see. Wow! Tough question. On one hand, we’ve got the Obama administration and its fiscal policies that virtually mimic the ruinous fiscal policies of Greece and Spain. Then there was Obama’s solution at the debate, which was to increase employment in the public sector by raising taxes to create more teaching jobs. Of course, the news that 71% of the tax money that supports teachers in Chicago is used to cover their retirement and health care costs kinda cloudies that picture. By the way, wasn’t it the health care costs and retirement benefits for retirees in private sector organizations that caused them to teeter on the edge of bankrupty in the first place? Oh, I forgot, why work so hard to increase economic development when it’s so much easier for the government that built everything to simply print enough money to bail out everyone in the private sector and the public sector? In that case, I guess it wouldn’t be so bad if we piled on a bunch of new government jobs. On the other hand, you’ve got the Romney plan to grow more jobs in the private sector so more people can be put back to work and be able to pay additional taxes necessary if government is to be able to afford to pay more teachers and other government workers. But what a dumb idea to propose expending all that time, effort and energy just to develop wealth producing private sector jobs that have a beneficial economic ripple effect throughout the entire economy. Firing up the government money printing press would be a much faster, simpler and easier solution. I mean look at all the economic and job growth that has come from Obama’s bail outs of companies too big to fail. And look at how much the number of jobs has skyrocketed upwards in the last jobs report that came out. It may be the last one that can come out before the election. Boy, what a cliff hanger! And what a unclear choice. What to do! What to do! I’m still undecided.

Corporations get “free services like military protection”… seriously, how much was YOUR military protection bill this year??!! Oh, you didn’t get one? How strange.

Do you honestly think ANY corporations, international or not, have soldiers standing guard on their pipelines and ships? When was the last time an enemy fired on a US flagged ship? A foreign flagged ship? Come on, you’re a smart guy (based on your PBS watching). When was the last time a US military operation was undertaken to protect foreign investments?

Oh, wait- that was Obama’s little illegal venture in Libya, over European oil interests wasn’t it? Dang, you are right- a Progressive president helped launch his own war for foreigners oil security. This is the same war, same country that recently caused our Ambassador to be raped and murdered on 9/11/12, along with 3 other Americans, right?

Corporations pay a 35% tax rate- how much is YOURS? Likely around 10%.

Corporations PAY for mineral rights (you can buy mineral rights yourself, of course- if you want to pony up) PAY for the rights to broadcast on the airwaves (the government claims it owns them). Research? Look at the amount of money corporations PAY for in-house research- and hey, didn’t I hear your Progressive in Chief talking about the INVESTMENTS this country needs to make in research, recently? Hmmm. he must think that’s a good thing.

But hey- keep pushing that Alinsky meme that corporations get SUPER SPECIAL giant amazing welfare payments and that they are responsible for AAALLLLL the bad stuff.

I’m sure Big Bird will agree with you.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_45W2ZR4OHIJLUGSU3FBIYXHVKY William H

What do you mean “you guys”? Congress is responsible for creating the incredible mess of loopholes, deductions and incentives that comprise our tax code. And last I looked, congress is usually about half Democrat.

Are you trying to claim Democrats never pass modifications to the tax code?

And please tell us how many Dems are currently pushing for a flatter, fairer tax code. They aren’t.

Dems want to RE-incentivize the code, and INCREASE the complexity, in order to PUNISH behavior they don’t like and reward what they do like.

Its how government has been working for 70 years. Its a bad way to work, as even YOU dimly see.

We need a flatter code, with fewer incentives and loopholes. Fair for the 100%, not just the percentage YOU happen to like.

You live in opposite land. The poor are not driving this country into the poorhouse; the real villians are people like Romney who can hollow out corporations (aka leveraged buy-outs-look up that word) and destroy US manufacturing are the real villians.
If you had intellectual honesty and any logic you could understand the economics behind our structural problems. Years ago we had a strong economy because we had manufacturing and small farms, small retail (mom-pops) Now, nearly everything is manufactured in China, even military components. (So, Bolton when you cry about where are the jobs, go look in China for mfg jobs, Russia for enginerring jobs, and India and Philipines for call-center jobs) Big box retail kills local retail, even Best-Buy is being killed by Amazon. Big industrial farms and extrememly high entry costs are killing small farms. All productivity gains should result in middle and low class income raises, but the raises are only going to the top.
The rightwing is quick to blame poor people for being poor and right-wing politicians like romney never admit how they are responsible for destroying the US economy.

yep, caught that and returned the volley.

Obama was a community organizer. If you are a Christian right-winger then you should admire Obama’s concern for the less advantaged.
After being a community organizer, he obtained his law degree, which likely involved mental work. Obama was an attorney and a professor in college, then a 3-term state representative, another run for office, and and then a successful run for US senate.
Did your momma teach you that it’s ok to lie? People who are telling you that Obama’s career was just community organizer are telling you a lie. Now that I’ve told you the truth, you need to take back your slander and promise you won’t tell a lie like this again. Make your momma proud, son.

No they don’t. Handouts are not enough to live on, as people who take the foodstamp challenge would tell you. http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/story/19618032/2012/09/23/phoenix-mayor-lives-off-food-stamp-budget-for-a-week
We have people who were in the middle class and had middle class homes and life-styles until chronic unemployment set in. You can not pay for a middle class lifestyle with gov handouts. Those “handouts” result in foreclosure and homelessness. You do know that many homeless are US vets, right?
You believe in the myth started by ron ray-gun re the welfare mom driving a cadilac. It is just a lie to make you feel ok that people are suffering in poverty… it surely must be their fault, right?
Nice Christian way to turn your back on the people Jesus wanted you to care for.

You believe the right-wing lies. Obama is ok with capitalism or he wouldn’t be working so closely with banks and mega-mega US corporate CEO’s.
He NEVER said nobody deserves to be sucessful. He says just the opposite. He says the US is great and a place for opportunity, and the fact that he could come from a fbi-racial amily without a father in the house, a mom who died early, and raised by a grandma, yet work to become President is a testament to the greatness of the US. What he also says is that he didn’t become president on his own (He Didn’t Build That!) He couldn’t attain such success without his safety net, he got scholarships, racial equity obtained from activists and legislation of the 60′s. No one in the US can say they built a business without outside contributions or reliance on US structures…roads, education system, bank regulation…legal system…
You need to stop watching Fox/listening to Rush or where ever it is that you get your dis-information.

You don’t know what you are talking about. The government is where a great majority of technology comes from…The space and military programs, the CDC, and energy advances come from the military. I know colleges who with gov grants are doing amazing nano technology and robotic design. The internet and GPS came about because of Gov technology and the internet itself became a commercial tool with Al Gore’s legislation.
You really need to stop listening to faux news, rush or whatever because they are not interested in giving you any facts.

  • Anonymous

and I like your last line.

  • Anonymous

I only have time to debunk your first line. The right-wing spin is that Greece and Spain collapsed from Socialism. The truth is that those countries wanted in with The Euro, the gov in those countries rigged their financial positions with the “help” of US banks and are dealing with huge interest costs as a result. There are Wallstreet money makers who will rig numbers and can bet on or against currencies and actually collapse countries. This is very complilcated and that is by design. The people who do that don’t want you to understand how they profit by other people’s blood.
The thing that many countries are experiencing is the import/export balance problem. We import too much from China and outsource services to India, Phillipines, we in-source engineers from India and Russia. All EU with the exception of Germany which has more industrial protection has the same import/export problem.
The intellectual property in the US is stolen by China, they sell us computer products with maleware and back-doors, and our market is full of bootleg products from China.
The best thing for the US to get jobs back is TARRIFS on Chinese products, require made-in US for all high-tech important for miitary, don’t give tax breaks for jobs sent overseas…etc. That is a left-wing policy. The protests in 1999 against NAFTA was a left-wing protest because we knew there would be US job loss. The right-wing will call that type of policy bad-that it’s “Protectionism” that tariffs are a tax on the american people…etc.
You do seem to be searching for the correct position and asking good questions. Romney’s lives in the world of a capitalist, where money is power and money is a tool, leverage to get more money. That’s where his heart is. He believes in trickle down, that if he’s doing fine, everyone else should be ok too.

And, they could be hooked up to lie detectors. What Romeny do you suppose would talk if he couldn’t lie?

  • Anonymous

No, it is an attempt to protect the jobs of the future. Solandra was cutting edge technology, but Solandra couldn’t compete with the cheap solar that china dumps on the US. china also controls rare-earth minerals required for much of high-tech manufacturing. If we don’t get ahead of the green energy race NOW. We will have no future.
We can get ahead with wind energy, but they need just a little help in the form of tax credits, which republicons are ok with killing. (thought republicons liked tax breaks)
Don’t be so smug that you think it a loss for Obama that Solandra went down and we don’t fund wind energy. It is a loss for the US.

Congress creates loopholes for corporations and financial vampires-hedge funds, etc. The 35% corporate tax rate becomes 7% or 0% after loopholes, etc. Some big companies actually get so much in credits that after taxes, we owe them!!!
You guys are people who NET less than $250,000 who vote for republicans even though republicans continue to claim that trickle down/supply side works for the middle class and the freemarket has solutions for you, that getting rid of regulation benefits the average person.
A flat tax unfairly hits poor harder than the rich. If you are interested in fairness, make the rich pay the same percentage as the middle class…the same payroll taxes, the same income taxes, and take away the loopholes that only the rich can exercise.

In the 50′s we had covert operations in Iran over oil. In the 80′s covert war in Afghanistan over rare earth minerals. We have aligned with dictators such as Sadaam in the 80′s with Iraq/Iran war…to keep our dictator in, to protect access to oil. Warships to protect water routes:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strait_of_Hormuz
Project for New American Century where Neocons want to protect the military industrial complex and need to justify pentagon spending with war. They want Clinton to start war in Iraq.
Then, Cheney “Energy Task Force” secret meeting where it was discussed how to carve up Iraq oil.
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/15/AR2005111501842.html
Other than some terrorists hits, the only State sponsored hit on US ship that I know of was Israel:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Liberty_incident
That 35% tax rate is before loopholes. The effective rate is much lower, even 0%. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/business/economy/03rates.html?_r=0
search with the term effective corporate tax rate.
Corporations that extract US resources are known to rig the system so they profit:
    http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_10281004
use the search terms, “interior oil executives royalties”
If you don’t think that big oil and big coal want something back for the money they pay politiicans, you are pollyanna. Remember Tobacco companies purchased republicons, and checks were actually handed out in the US House?

Today in the news- PBS has asked that Big Bird be removed from Obama political ads-
I found out some things about how PBS id funded- by a corporation set up for that purpose- http://www.cpb.org/aboutpb/faq/cpbpbsnpr.html (government funded corporation Hmm)
Guess who gives $7 million of his OWN money (not taxpayers) to PBS- yup D. KOCH- and funds other arts orgs and cancer research with his OWN money

You are pathetic AND a parent on top of it! Why don’t you start thinking for yourself?

  • Noname

Perhaps instead of attacking your fellow Americans, (because they are who
will be voting) why don’t you take some time to inform, if you are so
    damn educated.

  • Noname

Thank you for at least giving examples for your claims and even using a source, instead of just attacking and criticizing, you actually give yourself a little bit of support. There is now way to really know what Romney will do as a president. I hope to god, if elected, he does not lead us into another war… Especially one that we can’t win. We should also consider, that while we don’t Romney gaining office, Obama is probably not the best thing for America right now either. I have not studied in economics, but using my on understand of numbers and pluses and minuses, his plans with health care other spending will not be healthy for our fragile economy either.

  • Anonymous

There is no way to know what Romney would do because he keeps changing his “platform.” and he refuses to disclose specifics, so you have to infer what he will do based on his past and current stance. Will he improve US manufacturing or continue to let US manufacturing jobs bleed to China…Check Bainport. Romney created Bain to harvest companies and maximize profits, he still owns 51% of Bain, what is Bain doing currently:
    http://bainport.com/
That is evidence enough that Romney will continue to allow job loss to China, although he will talk tough to deceive people.
Then, you look at who are his advisors:For example, John Bolton who stated he’d be ok with blowing up the top floors of the UN.

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/09/08/1129374/-Romney-s-Neocon-advisers-want-a-Do-over

Romney will continue to ship jobs overseas, he says he won’t increase taxes and doesn’t say what he’ll cut, so the GAO says it can only be made up with middleclass loss of mortgage interest deductions…the middleclass will be hit hard, and purchasing power of middle class is major driver in the economy. Romney and the top 1% will harvest the US, the middleclass will continue to suffer, and Romney/Ryan budget destroys safety nets.

Romney has called Cheney a “person of wisdom and judgment.” The Cheney who created justification for Iraq war, the same cheney who profited from the war (Haliburton). Romney’s advisors are the same that drove bush to war in Iraq, they also profit from military industrial complex, Romney’s funders (Sheldon Adelson) wants war in Iran.

Romney hopes the US voter hasn’t learned from the past, that he can continue with the lie that trickle down tax cuts for the rich (top 1%) help 99% of us. He hopes you don’t realize that climate change is a serious problem.

As far as economic policy, Obama has done ok, not stellar, but look who he has to work with and the US structural problem-the power of big banks…Some things Obama has done for the economy goes under the radar. He has tried to stop Mexican truckers from being allowed to come into the US…Internationally, the Department of Energy is doing a tremendous job of rounding up loose-nuke material.

We have a problem with republicans who have been willing to destroy the economy so they can come back into power.

I am going to read all the posts below to educate myself…my question is, before I go to study is, “Why is Massachusetts Blue?” There was a very good Senator before Romney named Ted Kennedy…please reference Rachel Maddow.
