Women at the jirga

This week’s jirga, or assembly of elders, in Afghanistan began with a rocket attack but ended with a call for peace with the Taliban. The idea of reconciling with the Taliban has been of particular concern to women, who fear that their hard-won rights could be negotiated away. Producer Claudia Rizzi is in Afghanistan to follow the women who fought their way into the jirga in order to have their say in the process. Their story is part of Women, War and Peace, an upcoming series on PBS. Need to Know’s Lauren Feeney spoke to Rizzi via phone from Afghanistan.
