The last outpost

More than eight years after the U.S. invasion, American troops are still on the ground in Afghanistan. “The Last Outpost” tells the story of the extraordinary challenges faced by a U.S. military team training the Afghan National Army to take over the fight for themselves in a tiny, embattled outpost near the Afghan-Pakistan border.

Maj. Nicholas Fleishmann of the California National Guard contends with a litany of problems as he tries to train the ANA and win the hearts and minds of the locals in this Taliban stronghold. The security of Afghanistan, when the Americans begin to leave in July of next year, hinges on the stability of the Afghan National Army, and the ability of people like Maj. Fleishmann to succeed in their mission.
