Blood on the grass

In this video, VII photojournalist Ron Haviv gives us an emotional look at a group of young men and their coach playing American football in Juarez, the most violent city in Mexico.

In Juarez, one of the most dangerous cities on earth where thousands have been killed in a drug war, the high school football team of CBTIS 128 carries on. Team members at a birthday party were executed or wounded by a drug cartel in a case of mistaken identity. Today, the players continue to work at becoming the best athletes, students and citizens they can be. Coach Fernando Gallegos attempts to instill courage, honor and respect in his team by using the power of sports to improve the world around them.
