At 5:39 a.m. this morning, a Panda named Lun Lun gave birth to her third cub at Zoo Atlanta. The cub is the only giant panda to be born in the U.S. in 2010 and represents a significant achievement for global efforts to save the endangered species. It is estimated that there are fewer than 1,600 giant pandas remaining in the wild, plus 280 pandas living in captivity. Video of the birth can be seen on Zoo Atlanta’s Panda Cam.
