People who illegally enter a country are thieves.  They are stealing into it.  Let’s not overlay this fundamental fact of serious criminality with all kinds of glossy sympathy veneers that detract from the severity of their crime.  They have no business to be here.  And Americans should not be brain-washed into believing they should be.  Even if they work hard and do good, they have committed a crime and are trying to get away with that without a penalty.

  • Brucie38

We are all immigrants (yes even the Native Americans) and most of our ancestors did not go through a process-they just showed up.

  • Genie

Immigrants are responsible for many of the new businesses in our country.

We need dedicated immigrants.  We all benefit from them…my grand parents were welcomed…there were no quotas when they arrived in the late l800′s. Their descendants are enriching this country in many ways.

  • TimC

What part do you people not understand in illegal? So it would be ok if someone killed someone in another country and came here and did not get caught for 25 and did nothing else wrong. He should be able to stay.

  • Ron Oetting

We seem to forget, I think, that our ancestors who came from Europe over 400 years ago were the FIRST ‘illegal immigrants’. They stole land from native American Indians, slaughtered buffalo for the sport of it across the Great Plains, and virtually changed the natural beauty and dignity of this great nation into a cesspool of “industrial revolution”, all in the name of “progress” and “profit”. I believe it’s unfair for those of us who are contemporary white anglo-saxon ‘Americans’ to refuse to welcome those who are poor and downtrodden into this wonderful land of opportunity just so we can hoard our wealth for ourselves.

This program is soooo biased. They accept the premise that all the people who are here illegally are here legally and that it’s a problem with the law and the law should be changed.  If you open the border 100 million mexicans would move here. Many more central and south americans would move here.  No country in the world allows people to move in and take over. We don’t just have too much illegal immigration, we have too much legal immigration also.  Don’t you wonder, looking around, where all the people came from?

  • Mercedes

It’s not that I don’t want to allow people to immigrate. If I were to go to another coounty, it would be my responsibility to got to immigration services and first register myself and then let that country know what my intentions were.  I think that we have a right to deny someone a right to work or be a citizen just as any other country has the right to deny me citizenship.  “Breaking up their families” is a distraction from the issue and the many problems that are created when someone (or many) is living in a country illegally.  I thought that we had an immigration process.  Haven’t people from the Philippines, England and Ireland (etc) been granted work visas and citizenship?

  • TimC

    Yes Legal  immigrants…

  • Simon_koski

Would you deprt them and leave their legal children behind or would you deport the whole family, legal or not?

  • leonard

We gave amnesty in the 80′s and now we have even more ILLEGALS. We need to change the law so you are not a citzen just because you were born here. (ie anker babies) Half the world wants to come here we can not take them all. They must stay home and help fix their own countries.

  • Hunters36801

There has to be a way to provide work permits or green cards for temporary workers, but the U.S. cannot absorb and make citizens of all the foreign workers in North and Central America who want to come here as citizens. Those of us who care deeply about preserving wild places and about the limits to growth think there have to be limits. Alabama, Georgia and Florida are already engaged in “water wars”, and other areas of the country are having similar water and other resource problems. There are limits to growth, and from an environmental standpoint, we have to set limits on immigration. This aspect of the immigration issue is seldom addressed in discussions in the media.

  • Flynn912

Over 70% of immigrants, both legal and illegal, receive some form of public aid. ENOUGH!!! We can’t afford this game anymore.

  • susan scheck

Illegal immigrants are unlawfull because we passed laws which said they are. We have regretted laws which we passed in the 1920s because we now realize they were discriminatory and aimed to exclude certain groups. And, of course, there is the famous example of what we did to Japanese- Americans who were citizens during WW II.
As in the past, our immigration laws are primarily the expression of our racism.

  • TimC

To be illegal there must be a law stating it. There was no law when our ancestors came here.

  • Jsim111933

The word to look out for is ILLEGAL! those that enter by the right way are welcome. Those sneaking in are CRIMINALS. they have broken the laws of the United States. There are no ILLEGAL IMIGRANTS. Imigrants come across our borders with papers.Illegals don’t have papers.

  • Al

Right on Vicky! They’re first and foremost criminals that are thieves we should not tolerate. Any citizen here doing what they’re doing would be arrested and prosacuted for it and pay the penalty. We can not tolerate this to go on especially since they’re not coming here to asimilate into our society or they’d be doing so through the proper channels.

  • Lindathomas

Seriously why does the government want pass these laws that seem so unconstitutional? I do not understand this there are latino people who have fought for this country and Latinos who come to work and support their families. They are hard working they do jobs Americans do not want! Im an American and I have family who don’t want to work they want to just live off the our government welfare and housing but they want to complain about Mexicans coming and working they would love to have the chance us Americans have going to school and get to live in a great nation! There are even Latinos who have business suck as restaurants or construction company’s and give AMERICANS jobs!!! I think that the Latinos and their family who have worked here in the USA and show they have good intentions should be granted visas or even citizenship after showing so when they do work they can pay taxes like Americans and help economy they won’t be hiding living in fear their lives and kids can be turned upside down at any moment ! And the just keeps ones who come over hear to carry drugs keep them out I understand that not hard working ones and disrespecting them with harassment! I love this country because we give hope Its the land of opportunity some Americans just need to start taking advantage of it I know economy is bad but treating the Latinos like this with messed up immigration laws! I rather be in the America then anywhere else!!!

  • Kate

The question was phrased, “jobs Americans don’t want to do.”  Many of these jobs are so low-paid that no one else wants them.  If you haven’t tried picking veggies all day, you really should.  Then complain about them taking our jobs.  The survey should have said, “the jobs Americans won’t do.”

I don’t think how harsh our laws are makes a difference.  People are coming here to work, and it is worth it because they come from impossibly poor and hopeless living/working situations in their own countries.  To risk the perils of crossing in to the US illegally, they are desperate and will contine to come here no matter what you do.

  • david

before we grant another (!) amnesty to millions of job thieves, dont you think we should prevent the hiring of any future illegal aliens by employers?!

  • FAIRVIEW3

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IMMIGRATION THAT IS LEGAL AND REGULATED.  OUR COUNTRY IS BUILT ON IMMIGRATION.  BUT ALLOWING MILLIONS OF PEOPLE TO POUR INTO THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY CAN ONLY BE A DISASTER.  THE COUNTRY MUST DEVELOP A POLICY THAT WILL NOT ALLOW THIS.  PROMPT DEPORTATION OF PERSONS WHO ENTER THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY MUST BE IMPLEMENTED IMMEDIATELY .  IN ADDITION CITIZENSHIP SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO PERSONS SOLELY BECAUSE THEY ARE  BORN IN THIS COUNTRY.  THERE IS NO RATIONALE FOR SUCH A POLICY.  I AM UNAWARE OF ANY OTHER COUNTRY THAT HAS SUCH A POLICY.

  • Mary

There is no proper channel for people from Latin and South America to come here.  Most are hard working people who want a chance to work.

  • Jim7

We may be a nation of immigrants, but we are also supposed to be a nation of laws. The first responsibility of any nation of laws is to maintain order. There can be no now law or order if the borders of the country are unsecured. A nation without secured borders will not remain cohesive for long.

It is shows like these that make me rethink my contributions to public television.  It is left wing tripe.  Propaganda in its worst form. What bothers me is that I watched it with my gullible parents who live in New Jersey.  They lap it up.  They are so far removed from reality that they don’t know that WNET is lying to them.
Illegal immigrants don’t pay taxes.  They submit tax returns showing that they earned just enough income to claim the earned income tax credit.  Then they collect food stamps,  live in section 9 housing,  get free medical care,  and put their children to public schools.  In school their children get free lunches,  ESOL instruction,  and special education.

They carry no auto insurance,  yet have accidents leaving the injured citizens to fend for themselves.  They commit crimes disproportionately to their representation in our population,  fill our jails,  and then clamor to get the vote so that they can vote in representatives who will give them more public benefits.

So WNET puts out its propaganda,  paid for with our tax dollars and my contributions,  and wonders why we clamor for its funding spigot to be shut off.  Giving tax dollars to PBS is like paying someone to slit your throat.

  • Johnwilburn2003

First there is no way that we can find much less deport everyone who is here illegaly. We must find a way for people who have been here for 5 yrs. and have not been arrested or are not in gangs,to have a way to citizenship. Then we have to also close the borders and have a controlled immitgation policy.

  • Johnwilburn2003

Seriously, hoarding our wealth?  What wealth, my family would just like to get by right now..some of my family members are seeking jobs right now and would work the jobs held by the illegals.  Look at the cost of social services to maintain illegal immigrants – police, fire, hospital and medical, schools, etc. – all of this for many illegal immigrants who aren’t paying TAXES!   Many Americans are poor and downtrodden as well!  Many illegal immigrantsare not poor and downtrodden!

  • leonard

If you don’t think they can find them you don’t know our government. You really don’t have to look for them. Just fine people who hire them. I can not get a job without an I.D. Picture I.D. Social security number drivers licence etc. No job no reason to come here or stay here. End of story.

  • Shirley

I am all for legal immigration. I am all for assimilation into our way of life and becoming productive AMERICAN citizens of the United State of America. I am deffinately NOT for sneaking into our nation and demanding our government to provide financial assistance to them when our nation can not provide for our own children, elderly and unemployed.  Having said that, I would also like to see the immigration laws relaxed somewhat to allow a speedier path to legal immigration for those who wish to be an American citizen and be willing to fight for Her as if She were their native land.

  • Mary Cunningham

Illegal immigrants pay full social security taxes but never receive benefits.  They don’t collect earned income tax money, only citizens collect food stamps, live in section 9 housing, or receive medicaid benefits.  Non-citizens do not vote, etc.

“Need To Know” seems to be very politically biased. I gave this year, but won’t make the mistake again.

  • Mayen

There is a fundamental fact lost in this noisy debate…. America needs a lot of manpower to help fight
those who are bent on destroying us. I think we need to embrace these immigrants by recruiting them
into our forces fighting in Afghanistan and other upcoming wars to preserve our sovereignty and liberty.
Now, comes the test of who should be in America…. If any of the would-be Immigrant refuses to answer the call to duty, then it goes without saying that he looses his migration preference.
This is just a thought and I believe is worth thinking about…. Iran may not be as easy as Iraq and
will in all respect be costly in terms of material and human resources. The more we foresee this gnawing reality , the better we will plan for its exigencies, political background noise notwithstanding.

  • leonard

Those job would go to welfare people who refuse to work. No work no eat. NO 50″ T. V. etc

  • rqbii

Its very simple.  We are a democratic republic, each and every one of us has a voice in government and thereby the laws enacted to ensure the prosperity, tranquility, and liberty of every citizen.  Immigration laws are the laws of the land that we, the people, have enacted through our representative government to the benefit of  the people of the United States of America.   If you don’t like the law, you endeavor to change it, not obstruct it or  offer aid or refuge to those who do.   Those who enter this country in compliance with our law are welcome.  Those who enter our country in violation of our law should expect to be treated as outlaws.  Outlaws do not deserving the rights and privileges afforded those who demonstrate a basic respect for the laws of the land to which they enter.  A person who enters this country in  violation of the law is not and should not be welcome.   The first act of unlawful immigrants is the  intentional violation of the laws of the country they enter, and cannot be tolerated under  any premise.    If you don’t agree with our immigration laws, do the right thing and work to change them instead of encouraging people to violate them.

  • leonard

What world do you live in?

  • Ed

Enforcement of federal law is required to maintain the precepts of the constitution upon which this country was founded. Immigration laws and their implementation should not and cannot be exceptions. It is not a matter of prejudice or principal, it is strictly a matter of law. Illegal immigrants as such should not expect protection under the constitution of a country of which they are not citizens. Those who are here illegally, be they Hispanic, or any other culture need to be ready to accept the consequneces for for such behavior whether being jailed or deported. The state of Alabama is to be commended for taking charge to enforce the laws of this country that the Washington politicians at the federal level are unwilling to do to in order to save their own jobs.

Your program is extreemly one sided, show both sides. If a person robed a bank 40 years ago that don’t make it ok to keep the money. Many of those people are doing work american workers would love to get. The european people have to go through a screening process all should have to. Many are sucking off the wellfair system.Prosicute those that hire them and cut off social assistance, and education. You won’t have deport them. they found their way here they can find their way back.

What part of illegal don’t immigrants understand! Costing US taxpayers 113B$ a year, 2,000 felonies a year, take American jobs, bring in diseases, etc. How about the people that are waiting 5 to 10 years for US citizenship. They ask is this fair; I say send illegals back to their country of origin and get in line like others! UPDATE: Border patrol tells border citizens to purchase bulletproof vests!
Toimbstone, AZ newspaper headline: “It’s Now a call to arms!” Looks like Mexican-American war in the offing!  Illegal immigrant Alex Vega said, in defiance: “in 20 years we are going to run the country. that is the easy answer. It is our leaders that try to make it about race. In other countries they put them in prision then deport them.

  • Perennialjeff

It would be wrong to blow up a school regardless of who does it.  The problem is control of the flow of immigrants, and the law is inadequate to the need. We need to protect the right of immigrants to work here, and if they wish, to live here.  Not amnesty; individual freedom!

Yes immigrants are responsible for many new business. However, many of they are legal immigrants.
I am a immigrant so I known what I am talking about. I am not in favor of immigrants just “walking across the border.” You should not benefit by breaking the law. What this does is set a precedent that this kind of activity is “ok” and its not. People have to abide by laws. Most of the illegals are Hispanic coming for Mexico.  This Alabama law is a great example of responsibility by a state. People driving without a drivers license and have no insurance should not be allowed to drive. I do not care who you are, you should not drive without a license and insurance. My insurance rate goes up because of all the uninsured and illegal drivers. Worse when they get into an accident they are not responsible for paying any damages. Who is going to pay for the hospital bill? How can that be legal? So we should let the illegals drive with out even knowing the rules of the road. Additionally, the drivers exam should not be in Spanish. That is absurd on many levels. First, this is discrimination. There are foreigners form all over the world and we choose to mainly cater to the Hispanics. That is not only racist but also discriminatory. Very peculiar. Some pundits may remark that we cannot cater to every language. Well the since the USA is an international nation then we will have to cater the most common languages. Mandarin and Hindi are the most spoken languages in the world but I have yet to see a US drivers test in those languages. The second point about a drivers license examination in Spanish, its unconstitutional. ” All men are created equal.” Well apparently not, Hispanics get special treatment.  I know many people who are hear on a student Visa attaining very coveted degrees. These are people who are extremely bright and have made great sacrifice to attain their education.  When these individuals then try to legally stay in this country they have to jump so many hurdles. These are the individuals we need to help because they will help society as a whole. They will help America be better educated, help foster new ideas and develop new technologies. Further, they will pay taxes and be productive citizens. They have earned their right to become Americans. However, its incredibly hard for these individuals to get a green card due to the immigration laws. Its easier for an illegal alien to stay here than an registered alien trying to do it legally. Additionally, they have to pay lawyers and government legal fees that add up. They barely have enough to get by and they also have families. What about their dreams and aspirations? I bet these individuals can speak English, have a drivers license and insurance. No one is going to arrest them.

Tell them or show them Your not welcome and get the HELL out..Get them all out of here. stop everyone of them and if they are legal they shoudn;t have to worry keep a copy of the legal status with them at all times  they should be proud they did it the right way and became legal. Al ither families and all OUt the door I hope New York is next with the law…

  • TimC

Thats not the point. It is the point that you have no idea who is coming and there is great risk when you have people coming in illegally. You don’t know who is coming in. And it puts everyone in the country at risk…

  • Guest

I think you are making unfounded accusations or hard to sustantiate claims. I had, yes American Citizens live in my house for two years without paying rent and I could not evict them. I had to struggle to pay the utilities as mandated by the laws so that they will be comfortable. I requested assistance from HEAP and the paperwork requirements were too much for me and I am a citizen of this great nation. Now, where did you get your facts from, when I could not, with all my legalities get HEAP assistance ?

  • Jan Gajda

there should not be any amnesty for illegals. They should be punished.,- adequately, -lets say a fine of 100 $- .Punishing them more than that  would be too harsh..-19th century German immigrants to Arizona etc.chased away and killed off many indians .Ancestors of their families left in Germany did the same to Jews and others during 2 world war.-  Now their grandchildren  are doing the same to Mexicans .Even very bad people, but rational , will not be hostile to somebody without profiting from it, There is something profoundly evil in many american’s attitude toward  illegal immigrants.-Anyway ,- how a human being can be called illigal

  • Dan

I find that the piece on PBS is very one sided. Organized labor was detroyed by unlimited immigration. I also feel that it has been nightmare for Black Americans.

Many of the illegal immigrants were brought here by their parents when they were children.  They know no other life than living in the United States…why SHOULDN”T they be given the opportunity to become citizens?  They are not criminals!  They had no choice but to come with their parents.  They have no life to go back to, …put yourself in their shoes AND walk a mile in their shoes.  Most Americans CAN NOT and WILL NOT do the work that these immigrants do, it’s a PROVEN FACT.  What many people fail to realize is that we were ALL immigrants at one time!  What if your grand parents were deported?  Where would YOU be now?  All these people want is a better life!  Would YOU want to wait 20 or 30 years in a poverty stricken, drug laden country before looking for a better life?  When did America stop becoming the land of opportunity?  We are all human beings!  No ONE race is any better than the other.  Watch the news, people!  YOUR NEIGHBORS and fellow LEGAL CITIZENS are breaking many, if not MORE, laws than the immigrant who just needs a job to support their family.  Look in the mirror before you cast your stones….

  • fredrica

Listen Lindathomas, Latinos who are legal or illegal who start up companies like restaurants or landscape cos. or whatever don’t hire anyone but other latinos. Try going to south florida to a store run by latinos and see if they will even acknowledge you if you don’t speak spanish. Look at the crime on the other side of the border. Do you see that in Canada?  I know people who hire illegals to work for them and they say americans won’t do the work. The truth is these employers don’t want to pay fair wages or taxes or reasonable hours of work. They’re cheap and greedy. They’ve gotten used to having a work force of slave labor and they hide behind the image of being a caring open minded person while blaming us for not willingly giving up our jobs for the poor person who subjects his whole family to a life hiding from the law because they break it everyday they are here. Get real. Go to Mexico.

  • Perennialjeff

What good is it to get in line and wait 10 years when you need a job today?  Poor people can’t wait in line.  The law is not adequate to address the problem, so change the law.  You need to calm down and remember this is a problem, but not War of the Worlds.  We can solve it if we remember we are all people just trying to get by in this world.

  • Whimsie53

I agree with what Newt Gingrich’s expressed.

  • Daniel Woodard

I work with immigrants, permanent and temporary, from India, Ireland, Canada, Taiwan, the People’s Republic of China, Estonia, Iraq, Burma, Nigeria and countries I cannot even remember. So I am well aware that immigrants add valuable talent to our society, But they are all here legally.

The farmers in Alabama say they cannot get their food harvested without illegal immigrants, because Americans will not do the work. This is false. I know this because my wife’s aunt, a poor white Alabama girl, was a migratory farm worker for many years. It was not easy work, but she was able to support a child and even send boxes of fruit back to her relatives. I submit that it is not that Americans won’t do the work, but simply that illegals will work harder and for less money. I read an intriguing story recently in the NY Times, an interview with a California ag producer who had rented a few hundred acres in Mexico and set up a farm there. The cost of labor was low and he had no worries about INS raids. But, he said, “they don’t work as hard as illegals”.
Think about that. It is not simply that illegals work harder than Americans. They work harder than Mexicans who are working legally. The barriers we have created, with the border fences they must jump, the desert they must cross, selects only the most motivated and capable, and the laws that will deport them ensure they will not complain. The evasion of taxes is a bonus. We have in essence created a new slave class. But it works only because they are illegal. Amnesty will allow those with sufficient tenure to become legal, and of course they will no longer be compelled to work the fields. Others will cross the border and take their place. American employer do not want legal workers, regardless of nationality, for the simple reason that illegals are much more productive.

The solution is to enforce the law; not the law on immigration, but the laws on employment. The day just one Anglo goes to jail for hiring illegals the problem will be solved, and not before. Citizenship can be firmly established by combining E-verify, USA-Visit, and the social security database.

If the demand for illegal workers is reduced, agribusiness will have to pay a living wage. Prices will go up, but will reflect the fair cost. Of course US agribusiness may simply move to Mexico, creating jobs there for the same workers they now hire here. This could reduce the greatest loss Mexico faces, the departure of its most motivated and capable to “el Norte”. Perhaps with their help Mexico can overcome its terrible problems. As for jobs like maids and janitors (I was a janitor while in college, and it was tough work!) we will have to pay them what it takes to hire a legal worker, or do the work ourselves. It might do us good. This will be painful, but it is the only way to resolve a fundamental hypocrisy that is eating away at the core of our American values.

PBS. How can you be trusted when the first words out of your mouth are “Alabama’s _anti-immigration_ law”.  NOBODY IS AGAINST PEOPLE LEGALLY APPLYING TO COME HERE OR to ALABAMA! (Yes, I’m shouting that at you since you pretend to not have figured that out yet). Are we to understand that you are so stupid you still don’t know it is an anti ILLEGAL law?  Or, even worse, that you know it’s not anti-legal immigration but you still prefer to lie about Alabama and their anti-crime law? Why is it so important for people like you who, with a straight face, call themselves progressives or liberal, to want to preserve, protect, and expand this modern slave trade in (mostly) illegal Mexicans? How is it bad for Alabama to want to end this obscene exploitation of little brown people by obviously racist, lawless, white employers? Why are you not trying to stop this slave trade that is joined at the hip with the drug cartels that have slaughtered about 40,000?

Just because “all people” are just trying to get by in this world does not give them the right to come here illegally.  By doing that they have already broken our laws.  So if they are hungry enough, it’s ok if they break the law by robbing a store?  Don’t be ridiculous………..they are here ILLEGALLY!!!  What part of that do you not understand?

  • John Ross

The basic problem is overpopulation in Catholic-dominated South and Central America. Give to each and every woman everywhere the legally protected right to decide if and when to birth her children and this entire immigration problem will disappear as labor becomes scarce and wages rise in every nation.

  • Marco

Yes your right perhaps we should bring all the impoverished kids from central, south America and any other continents governments country that does not take care of their fellow citizens. I say ya lets send back the parents and keep the kids. They didn’t do anything wrong but the parents did and as such should be deported as an example to the kids to be aware of right from wrong. Illegal from non illegal acts..

  • Mikeanderson611

Illegal is illegal! Either delete the damn law or enforce it!

  • Perennialjeff

The biggest killer of unions has been a steady campaign by business to offshore manufacturing jobs while cracking down on unionizing in the service sector.  Blame also the federal government for not supporting labor and looking the other way when businesses violate labor law.
Blacks have been hurt disproportionately by the recession, even moreso than latinos, but immigration is not the main culprit; it’s the steady loss of manufacturing over the years.
It’s too easy to scapegoat the newcomers, whether Mexican, Vietnamese, or Irish.

  • HappyOrganist

Many of my best friends are hispanic.  I know there are some bad ones in the bunch (as a group in general) but I haven’t met one yet!  Many are my home-away-from home – and only here to feed their families.  The ones I know would come here legally if they had the knowledge and resources to do so – absolutely.  They work hard and are honest.  I don’t know a better group.  The immigration laws need to be updated to make it more possible for these and other good people to come here legally, like they would in the first place if they were able to.  There are workable options here.

I just watched my last “Need to Know” program.  I agree that this one was totally one sided and biased towards illegal immigrants.  This happened a while back on the network program “What Would You Do?”  They had a totally biased program hosted by a Latino.  It’s no longer broadcast in my area.  I wouldn’t watch it if it were.  The son of an illegal immigrant that spoke at the end of this program saying they get even at the ballot box and saying they would never vote for a Republican didn’t do Latinos any favors.  It appears they do little thinking before voting.  And his hostile attitude doesn’t endear them to anyone but themselves.

  • Madelynbeltz

    1) If Americans “won’t do” those low-paid, difficult jobs, could it be because we are becoming socialistic?  I.e., we expect other tax-payers to bring us up to a standard.  If it were a matter of life and death, I’d be out in the fields working.

    2) I heard a lecture recently in which an expert said what would help Mexico most is if its people could trust the legal system.  If we succumb to these emotional pleas and weaken law, we are on our way to becoming like the nations whose people are so desirous to come here.

  • Daniel Woodard

Ironically agribusiness doesn’t want them here legally, as legal immigrants don’t work as hard and might even complain.

You are writing “cesspool of the Industrial Revolution” ….. On A Computer!!!!!  Ha Ha Ha , oh… oh .please stop it….. your killin’ me with your hypocrisy and irony.

The reason we are in this mess is Congress has no guts to either remove the law and face the voters or enforce the federal law as written. Congress is whining that the states are enforcing what is the Federal law because the Feds cannot or will not do it while Congress is isolated away from all the problems of borders. They are cushioned with hugh salaries and benefits while business owners are fighting for their lives!

  • Daniel Woodard

Rather than being biased I would say it missed the real issue. If employers are not punished (i.e. with at least a little actual jail time)  for hiring illegals they will continue to do it. If jobs are available, people will come whatever the risks.

    The Mafia pays taxes too.

  • Simon_koski

There is a legal issue and a human issue. What the problem is that the laws do not address the human issues sufficiently. If someone has managed to come to this country, worked had, built a family and even has paid taxes for a number of years, he or she is a contributing member of our society, to be welcomed. The children in the family need stability, not to have their parents sent away from them. The law needs to address ways such a family can begin the process of citizenship. The strength of our country has been on the dreams and pryers of immigrants.

  • Shirley

Guile, I admire your tanicity and ability to see things as they really are and your courage for stating them so. It is unfortunate for those who try within the law to become a citizen of the United States, only to have to go through a lenghtly process to see their dreams fulfilled. They seem punished for doing the right thing but let me tell you, it is THAT person that has my respect.

  • Anonymous

    I certainly agree with that.

  • Mikeanderson611

Newt Gingrich’s statement was to get the vote. He flip flops all the time…just go back and read his statements! Basically a liar…

  • John Ross

Well said fredrica! Why are so many Latinos sneaking across the border? Because in Catholic-dominated South and Central America the population is growing far beyond the availability of jobs. Overpopulation and the resulting poverty drives them to accept work anywhere they can find it. But if women everywhere are given the legally protected right to decide if and when to birth their children this entire immigration problem will ease down as labor becomes scarce and wages rise in every nation.

  • Tschraad

    Jtucker -
Did you forget those still living in Mexico waiting to come here legally and
are being punished because of all the illegals disregarded the laws of the
    United States.

    I feel sorry
for those who should be here more than those who get rewarded for breaking our
    laws.

  • Greg

First logical comment I’ve read all night. Everyone posting and saying “the law is the law, get the hell out until you are legal” obviously has not done any sort of research on how to become a legal citizen. If they had done so they would know that the laws are unfair and need to be reformed.  They would also know that republican politicians refuse to vote for any reforms until all illegals are deported, a feat that will never be possible because for every 10 you deport another 20 arrive.  Talk about a big waste of money on enforcing the unenforceable.

  • AnnVS

I cannot respond to such a simplistic poll. The issue is not one of granting “amnesty” — rather it is the structuring of an earned pathway to legalization for those who have no criminal record, pay a penalty and go to the back of the line of those seeking to come here legally. We cannot deport 11 million people, but if we bring them out of the shadows we will know who is in the country, they will have driver’s licenses so our roads will be safer, they will not fear reporting crimes so our communities will be more secure, and they will continue to contribute to our economy as workers, taxpayers and as consumers. And when we keep families united, act towards others with justice and humanity, we will be upholding our nation’s values.

  • Perennialjeff

Apparently your throat is still unslit, so I guess you were using hyperbole, just as you were in your recitation of grievances against “them”.  I expect them to apply for, and get, some social services, in order to relieve their poverty and help them acculturate.  It would be better if there were a more efficient process for administering their entry and citizenship process, but the heat over this issue makes it untouchable.  We need to calm down and get rational before we can get a workable, humane solution.

  • John Ross

That humane solution is to give each and every woman the legally protected right to decide if and when to birth her children. Very few want a large family, more want none at all, but the vast majority want no more than 1, 2 or 3. Then, as the human population declines and labor becomes scarce, wages will rise for everyone.

  • Greg
  • Tschraad

    Perennialjeff

So your solution is to have open borders with no limits.  Very few would be left in Mexico.  Why not just absorb Mexico. Sounds like a Democratic plan.  Share the wealth of the United States with others in this world and all of us will beholden to whom?

To make it simple, why don’t we just send the money to them and save the expense of moving?

    Illegal is Illegal.
My main concern is making illegal activity of all types “normal”.

All persons in this country illegally should expect to pay the price for breaking the law to be here. Yes, there is a big human price on the immigration issue. When did anyone not think so?

If the USA normalizes illegal activity, we are no better than the most corrupt countires on the planet.

  • Andrea Messier

If all people in this country were paying into the tax system as citizen’s do, we would not have the issues on funding that we currently have.

  • Rob

it was a excellent and accurate. I,m a ag  employer and e verify is having the opposite effect on the economy in the states that have tried it.

  • Greg

I’m happy to see a post in favor of reform.  Gov. in NM recently tried to take Driver’s licences away from illegal immigrants.

  • Time

Go through the state dept website to see what the rules are for traveling to any other country. You need a passport to start with. Then an onward ticket, proof of accomodations and ability to pay for your stay and time is limited, always. You can not work while there and have to apply for whatever type of visa it is you need ahead of the time of travel. If you want to stay longer or work or apply for citizenship or residency there is a process, forms, fees. If you don’t follow the rules you can be arrested, fined and deported, permanently.  There are simply too many people in this world. No country wants more. The U.S. is taking a million a year legally and that’s too many. 250,000 would work better.

  • Perennialjeff

“they must stay home and fix their own countries”–if that were possible, they would.  Who wants to walk away from everything he knows to go live in a strange country?  Life is much tougher in their home countries because of the economic order of the world, which favors rich nations over poor ones.  Corporate forces, well beyond our control, are driving these social struggles that we have to deal with, all for the sake of greater profits.  These problems don’t get solved because it benefits business to pit workers against each other and keep labor costs (and us) down.

  • Greg

outsource agriculture to mexico, I don’t think that would do us any favors.  Most businesses outsource because it’s cheaper to do so.  The exploitation would continue, the only difference being it won’t be in your back yard any more.  I do agree with you that slavery is wrong and maybe the farmers need to reform as well as the laws.

  • R Wright

At least 50% of the worlds population, or 3 billion people would love to come to the U S. Most of them very nice people. It just cant happen. We let in a million every year and would let in one more if you gave him your job

  • John Ross

You’re right, and the solution is peaceful family plannng programs in every nation in which every woman is given the legally protected right to decide if and when to birth her children. Very few want a large family of 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 children. More want none at all. But the vast majority want no more than 1, 2 or 3, which would reduce the human population, make labor scarce, raise wages, and no one would have any reason to illegally emigrate anywehere.

  • Real Cab Driver

Our local Big 10 university has been training Chinese PhD’s for decades.  Why am I paying for the training of Chinese when we could be training Americans.  When a big meat packing company in Minnesota started hiring a lot of Mexicans, the local police and fire, schools, hospitals, all had to hire or train translators.  Then the meat packing firm got a better deal from Nebraska and all the Mexicans left with the plant.  Now I’m looking at Spanish/English packaging on everything I buy, why?  This is America.  Do they have English on everything in Mexico?  No.  The people who present the case for the Mexicans are very good, and I don’t care, this is America, lets take care of Americans.  And Mexicans with “anchor babies” can take their children back to Mexico with them.  Oh yeah, the last time I was in an armed robbery, it was 2 poor under privileged Latino youth, 16 year old anchor babies.

  • Real Cab Driver

The United States military has always allowed non Americans to enlist.  These days they have to be able to read and write ENGLISH.

  • Connniepate06

Not really, our gov would just spend more. But I am totally against illegals in this country they broke our laws and should be prosecuted and sent back to their country!

  • Conniepate06

If we have to have proof of a lincense and ins. why should they not have to have the same, and abide by the same  kind of rules?

  • Conniepate06

WAAAA! They are still illegals and using our systems for freebies, we can’t afford this anymore this is part of the problem we have with the economic situtation today! I have been to clinics due to being unemployed for longer than I could have ever believe this would have happen to me and I saw  in person how this is really a problem in this country.

  • unemployedamerican

Please just send them home, “Grant them amnesty so they can do the work that many Americans don’t want to do” are you kidding me… I want to work, send one home and I will take their job I dont care what it is I’ll do it.

They Are Here ILLEGALLY!!! If Their Family Gets Broken up because they had children here, that is their fault. They new they were breaking the law when they came here. They just don’t want to pay the consequences for their illegal action of entering this country. Prosecute them and get them out of here!!!

  • hensaw

deport or support  5 kids and food stamps  free healthcare brand new truck  repeal the birthrite law  get rid of the benefits  then they wont come here

  • Bcollins92131

I can’t vote for any of these options. Instead we should issue tamper resistant IDs to all people that can legally work in the US and require that employers check this ID priory to employment. That’s a real solution. Migrants are here to work. If employment is cutoff, they will not come.

  • Terry Stevens, Huntsville, AL

What part of illegal alien do you not understand.  The term immigrant is constantly used, or undocumented worker.  The bottom line is, illegal alien as in entered into the country illegally, may or may not be paying Federal taxes, or state, pops a couple of anchor babies and poof, now those anchor babies are entitled to WIC, later FDC and food stamps.  Here’s another little tidbit.  Meat cutters 15 years ago made 19-20 bucks an hour, now they make 10 and guess what, predominately Hispanic. Brick masons, tile layers, roofers, HVAC, framers and almost all other construction and food handling jobs.  Do not hand me that nonsense about doing the jobs Americans won’t do, this is not lettuce picking or mowing grass, these are skilled professions and used to, again I say used to be fairly high paying in the construction and food trade. If the good Sheriff of Jackson County chooses not to enforce the law on the bucks, fine, run your department without any state funding.

It should be a felony to be in the USA illegally.

  • Lanny

Grant them amnesty so they can do the work that many Americans don’t want to do (54%).  First is was the Native Americans, then the Blacks, then Japanese Americans, now it’s the Mexicans.  Seems like all of us who at some time came here as immigrants (documented or undocumetned) have to find a scape goat for all our problems, whether personal or otherwise.  In every case violent hateful discrimination had an “excuse”, but the real truth is white Europeans, in particular, wanted to take or needed something from the targeted group.  Violence and hate rules our history. Bad laws usurp our honored “rule of law” our forebears cautioned against. Now, the rule of law only applies to anyone who is not immune by being a member of the ruling elite.  Corporations have abused our Bill of Rights, former presidents of the US who broke the law go free as do the top members of their administrations and we all buy it.  Clinton and Obama, before they were elected, said they would address these inequities made by former Presidents, but reneged once in office.  Bad immigrations laws diminish who we are as a members of a still but dying American Democratic Republic.

  • Anonymous

I feel likewise, there should be no sympathy for people who chose to break the law, and have babies here without legal status. They should have thought of this prior to having babies here and be prepared to suffer the consequences of their actions. We should repeal legal status to births of illegal aliens as a means to discourage these babies.

  • Anonymous

Granting “Amnesty” is positive reinforcement for illegal actions and only invites more Mexicans to enter our country without legal status. We need to make NEGATIVE INCENTIVES for future illegal immigrants to stop the flood !! There have been two “Amnesty” programs enacted by the Federal Government in my life time and it has only made our illegal immgration problem far worse.

  • Mkkgrn

Obviously a “redneck mentality” would suggest something like this. If we apply this concept then a large majority of our ancestors would be felons. This a country built by immigrants at one point or another. The immigration of people continues and I don’t think it will stop anytime soon. How can you NOT understand that the MAJORITY of immigrants want to come here because they want a better life for themselves and their families. We are the country of FREEDOM and OPPORTUNITY. I know that if YOU were in their place you would want the same things for yourself, so please be a little more creative that a “blanket” felony for anyone that is illegally here. People like YOU are the big obstacles in a democratic society, your mentality is one of ignorance, prejudice, racism and hate. I am only glad that YOU are not the majority.

  • Bryh1206

most company’s hire them for two reason’s they work for less
and they can pay them  under the table. so the company does’nt
have to pay health insurance or workmans comp.
and as far as them working for less, there happy to be payed under
the table for less because they can now collect walfare and other
    state and goverment benefits.

  • Idoug99

Unsupported statements like this are figments of Bryh1206′s imagination. The California company I worked with did everything we could to ensure we hired “legal” employees. When Reagan granted amnesty in the ’80s we were stunned to find over a hundred illegal employees who had been with us 5 years or more. Contrary to the uninformed, most companies do their best to act legally in every respect ncluding hiring. New SS electronic confimation abilities probably make this easier to do today, but there is no guarantee an “illegal” immigrant isn’t taking an American citizen’s job – they are motivated and determined. IDC

  • elle

Why is this the “law” that we so obsessively persecute? There are many other “illegals” that do things illegally everyday such as jay walk or run a red light or evade taxes or drive while drunk or park illegally, etc. etc. So if enforcing the letter of the law is our mission in our country, let’s treat all “illegals” equally, not just those who are undocumented. Sound ridiculous, right? Because it is. The issue of undocumented workers has far less to do with their legal status and so much more with racial profiling, scape goating, ethnic discrimination, and lack of human empathy.

  • elle

Watching the first segment about Alabama’s immigration law got me thinking, why don’t they go check immigration status of everyone standing in the black friday lines at Walmart and Best Buy and the Mall, etc.? Why, because of course they like the money that the “undocumented” spend to stimulate our economy, and the taxes they pay on their purchases, no one has a problem then, huh? It’s only a “problem” when it’s convenient. Bunch of hypocrisy…

  • elle

Illegal things are done by people in the U.S. everyday: jay walking, evading taxes, parking in no parking zones, running red lights, etc. Why don’t we more aggressively enforce these laws? Why? Because the issue of undocumented immigrants has less to do with the sanctity of our laws and more with racial profiling, discrimination, scapegoating, and ethnic persecution. Be honest with yourself so that a real dialogue can be had. The day you don’t break a single law in our country is the day you can hold undocumented immigrants accountable for entering this country.

  • Vviveca

The state of Georgia kicked out large numbers of “illegals” very recently…the result was those Georgia farmers were short 11,000 very needed working hands to farm their crops. And they suffered a shortage of produce sales as a result. To Alabama and the rest of the states – yeah, keep it up.

  • elle

Come on, you have never done anything ILLEGAL? Illegal things are done by people in the U.S. everyday: jay walking, evading taxes, parking in no parking zones, running red lights, etc (and these are the “minor” ones). Why don’t we more aggressively enforce these laws? Hold people in jail for 20 days. Sounds ridiculous, right? Well it is. It’s ridiculous to be so obsessive about persecuting contributing members of society (they make purchase to stimulate the economy, they pay taxes, etc.) Because the issue of undocumented immigrants has less to do with the sanctity of our laws and more with racial profiling, discrimination, scapegoating, and ethnic persecution. Be honest with yourself so that a real dialogue can be had. The day you don’t break a single law in our country is the day you can hold undocumented immigrants accountable for entering this country. Let’s focus of capturing criminals, not inoffensive “illeglas”.

Blacks brought over as slaves, were first captured by other African blacks and Muslim slave traders, then sold to British traders.  The blacks brought to the USA have had a good deal better than had they stayed in Africa. No amnesty. Rule of Law. DEPORTATION!

  • Captkelso

My wife is a legally naturalized citizen. She has been waiting for her younger sister and brother to be allowed to immigrate for over 20 years after petitioning them. How can any person in this situation be in favor of persons who take advantage of their proximity to our borders and invade our country? My children cannot find work. When they go to try to find employment here in California, they are at a disadvantage because they are not bilingual.  Census data proves that the increase in population here in California is due to the number of births to immigrant women exceeding the number of people of all racial backgrounds emigrating from this State to greener pastures. The cost of “anchor babies” is ultimately going to bankrupt our State government. Not all “anchor babies” are Latinos! The situation is completely out of control.

Economic conditions in other countries, specially Mexico since the majority of illegals are from Mexico, is an not relevant to allowing them to stay.  They are illegal and breaking the law, period.  So many wade through the many years and the bureucracy to come legally into the USA, to have someone just jump into the front of the line because the geography makes it possible and our federal government is gutless to deal with the issue is a slap in the face to those that imigrated legally.  No problem if someone wants to migrate legally to do the work many in the US are not willing to do.  BUT, it must be legal.  Anyone breaking the law deserves to be prosecuted.

Yes, they do have English advertising/instructions/services in Mexico… in the tourist areas to cater to foreigners. Why? Because language is about marketing and business and profit, so when you see Spanish in the U.S. it’s not personal, it’s about the bottom line and stimulating the economy and getting people to buy products. So get over it and deal with it. Stop being so lingustic-centric. If it’s in English, what do you care if there’s a translation in another language. When I buy electronics or even shampoo, the instructions come in English and other languages like French, etc. Doesn’t affect me one bit.

In the beginning, those that came in the Mayflower were illegals immigrants. The natives feed them and help them. The people has changed, they forgot their origin. Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to remember what is America… A land full of immigrants that created the greatest nation of the world that now for political reasons distract the people with themes like Immigration and making everybody forget  about real important matters.
Immigrants also produce and it seems unreal that some people does not understand that. All the States that implements anti-immigrants laws, the un-employment has increase.
It is sad watching the people talking about immigration in debates instead of important matters.

I reside in imperial California where the unemployment rate has been over 32% for years.   I m yet to see any “legal Americans” working in the field here.  American will not do the work migrant workers do for little pay in triple digit heat.   American have been spoiled and will not do this kind of work.  additionally if Americans decide to do this or work (which we will not) it will cost the farmer significantly more and hence  the price of the produce will sky-rocket.

  • Guest

If Americans cannot find jobs, wouldn’t it have to be directly related to them exporting them to China. The trade imbalance has only grown. At Americans ports, cheap products keep landing. However, Americans love a bargain. Everyone should watch “The cost of low prices.”
Didn’t Americans flood the markets in Latin America with cheap grains? Did this push these poor Latin Americans growers out of their farms?
American appetite for drugs, has also made places like Mexico dangerous. Although they are building a fence, they keep selling arms to the cartels.
Didn’t Reagan say…”Take down this wall.” Doesn’t anyone remember?
In times of war, Americans allowed Latino immigrants to come work in the fields here. They were welcomed by spraying them with DDT. I have seen photographs and documentaries.
Now, if some young Americans cannot have jobs after college, it may be because they have specialized in careers that are not in demand such as history. It also takes them 6 years to graduate from college, if they ever get there.
Telecommunications have made it easier for Indians to manage the call centers in English. Maybe some of them can write better English than some of the people commenting on this site.
Wasn’t Alabama devastated by hurricanes? The fact that they don’t have jobs might directly related to their economy and not to illegal immigration. However, everyone needs a scapegoat.
For those of us with higher education degrees, we want to be treated fairly. Sometimes it feels that  get forgotten in the debate. It takes years to get legal visas if you do it the legal way. However, the law is the law and you have to obey them.

  • concerned tax payer

I think they should be prosecuted/detained and sent home.  It has nothing to do with being mean spirited or racist as they claim, it is matter of the mass numbers draining the American tax payers and taking away from a system they never paid into; such as free medical care and government assisted food stamps; plus the anchor babies which is free birth, and they make it sound like they pay into the economy when most of them are poor; which puts them on all the government assisted programs which American citizens pay into this system and cannot receive the benefits.  It is so inviting to them because there is no punishment, they just deport them to come right back .  The word illegal means nothing to them.  It is sad but they want a better life too but the American tax payers hould not have to pay for it when our economy is going to be as bad as Mexico’s and the crime rate and drug cartels just keeps coming across the border with them.  They fail to mention the drain on our economy it puts and the jobs they are taking from legal citizens which they claim American’s won’t do; who did them before the Mexican’s did.  This is because they work cheaper and they drive down our wages.   We were warned this would happen 10 years ago if the borders weren’t controlled, and now it is reality because the government did nothing.  Now Alabama is trying to enforce the laws the Federal government won’t to help their legal citizens and protect their taxes and employment and are being ridiculed and comparing it to the old civil rights movement of the 1960s.  By the way, that is like comparing it to apples and oranges.  These people are here illegal; what rights do you have as illegals Why do they think the law excludes them?  They knew the law when they crossed the border but knew it wasn’t enforced.  The word has gotten to the other 19,999,999 who have done thiis.  Now it is part of Mexico which our economy just cannot aborb.  By the way, I am poor too. I make $10/hour and made 50 cents more per hour in 1984.  I have to work hard or I will lose my job to someone who will work for $7.25 that came across the border so how is that contributing to the economy which they claim.  My American dream is headed south because of the economy now.  I was astonished at the $644M of deportation flights to Guatamala in the last six years.  This comes to $12.88M per state that would help any state budget out.  That is just a drop in the bucket to the real problem.  If something isn’t done, we don’t stand a chance on the unemployment rate.

Race is not a crime, but being an illegal alien, unlawfully present in the US should be a charge prosecutable as a felony and punishable with 2-5 years prison. Any crimes thereto attached should be consecutive. Also illegals should be denied bail.

It is a felony to be a US Citizen to be an illegal alien in Mexico, but you want Mexicans found illegally in the US to be considered misdemeanors?
I was in “their place” for quite some time, but I didn’t illegally invade Japan, did I?
If anybody is expressing ignorance, then it is clearly you and not I.

  • Gnance2010

Since when did two wrongs make a right?

  • Aapetemeister

illegal felony lawbreaking ALIENS  not green card carrying plant pickers who come here and pick and pay thier fair share because of the green card requirements,we seem to get the two types of workers confused .one keeps the law and the other breaks it and many times with attitude these are two different classes felons vs lawkeepers

we have internet service we have latino cable satilite we share a 1 bedroom with 9 others we share our beer our women and the shower and all talk about going back home every 2 yrs .we dont want to be here but the money is better than the 50 cents a hour if you can find work back home, most cant cause we let the corrupt govt dictatorship keep us down and poor back home, try and reform our govts and well stay home but the commies in the 1930s escalated into the 60sand take our rights away and ourjobs an ruin our country with corruption but we got family

Yes, do it legally just like immigrants who got here, in the early nineteenths hundreds, how  many millions 20, thirty millions. They came through Ellis island, some spending days before getting there green cards, becoming citizen, over night yes those were your ancestors, who filled out the proper paperwork. If your ancestors, came in today, it would take them at list 20 years to get there green cards, man you would not been born here. In another ten years this country, will be needing millions of news workers, we can not help it were an old country, we need this people, and millions more. Why go home, this was there ancestors lands, they do not want the lands back, they just want  to work, those jobs that you would not touch with a ten foot pole. My little city of Edinburg Texas lost 15 Americans, well 12 of them, were Mexican Americans, in Vietnam. we have fought in all the Wars for this country, and those illegals, when becoming part of this great country will do the same. Thanks for time Mr. Poppy Tim 1 from Martiniano Chapa2.

I think that if drivers who are stopped do not have a driver’s license and car insurance, they should be prevented from driving in the future. If in addition the driver does not have citizenship or legal alien status, then they should be asked to return to their home (or deported). It seems to be a false argument to say that the person present in the U.S. illegally must face leaving his/her American children alone in the U.S.; I would want to take my children with me, if deported, and this should be allowed and assistance with transportation for the illegal person’s family should be provided. I think all humane assistance should be given for these people who were unofficially “invited” to this country by employers who prefer lower paid employees. These employers are also breaking the law if it would be reasonable to suspect that the employee might not be here with a green card (e.g., if the employee can not speak English). In addition, efforts should be made to provide for a legal, simple, transparent process
for legal alien workers and legal immigration along with enforcement of current
    U.S. laws
I also agree with a previous comment, that in order to create an American economy rich in productive American-based companies and middle-class supporting jobs, national and state policies should be changed so that American businesses find it less lucrative to set up operations in foreign countries (e.g., China), and American consumers find imported products less attractive to purchase. (As an aside, imported products seem to sometimes avoid the consumer and safety regulations in place in the U.S.)

  • Merilee

OK, many workers are in the USA illegally.  BUT the USA government has some of the blame for not doing something about this problem 40 years ago!!!  They ignored it and let it multiply.  Workers are needed in the USA, grant them amnesty and start from now on taking better care of your borders.  I am a Mexican who does NOT wish to live in the USA.  You would not pay me enough to go to the USA.  I am fine in my country, thank you very much.

I just got through watching the prof from N.Y. on your immigration program and the only thing not addressed was becoming an American legally. I think it is selfish of the parents who had come here illegally to shoulder their children with such a legacy.I am for anyone who comes to this country legally .But if one can not abide by the law what does it say to the generation of children of illegals? I do not think it fills the offspring with respect for the country . I tend to think it breeds disrespect for the law and an I deserve it attitude. It pains me to see illegal immigrants protesting here because they feel it is their right, since when? I hesitate to bring up the dollar figures in taxes Americans pay to support illegals but that is another discussion.
The argument that sending illegal parents back to their home country separates family is true but this happens every day when a parent ,who is an American citizen, breaks the law and is sent to prison.
Why should illegals get special treatment ?

  • Seekjustice

Deport them and their family members, I dont care if they have lived here for 20 years and were born in the USA, they were born to people who are and were hear illegllly in the first place.  If we continue to give amnesty to them or their family children, they that says to everyone in Mexico, that if you’re able to not be caught for a certain amount of years, then you’ll get to stay here. thats BS.  Get rid of all 12 million of them NOW.  We do need to allow people to get work visa’s to they can work if they want to, but not at the cost of locals who can do the same job. The h1b visa workers from china and india are taking jobs from locals who can do the same work. Big corporations are choosing workers from other countries just so they can pay that worker less money then they would a US citizen.

  • Seekjustice

Thats right, instead of deporting them, let the tax payers foot the bill for housing them in a US jail, your an idiot Gnance2010.  Another Bush voter speaks up.

  • Gnance2010

The price of produce shouldn’t skyrocket, since the tax dollars and benefits going to illegals, the workers and their families would be redistributed balancing the cost.

  • Gnance2010

You are only worth what you accept.
Band together with pride and strike for better pay.
Demand to be paid what you are worth.
If the pay is low, then demand housing, clean water, sanitary facilities, fair food prices.
    Occupy!

  • Mayflower descendant

The best solution short of annexation is a borderless immigration union with Mexico & Canada, then most illegal immigrants will automatically become legal. China will gladly gobble up our share of the global economic pie, unless we keep America the shining land of opportunity. Without population growth we will continue to decline and go bankrupt. We are a land of immigrants, and once immigrants no longer desire to come to our shores, it will be too late.

  • Gnance2010

No driver permit, no license, no insurance, should be a national misdemeanor requiring mandatory vehicle impoundment. Drunk driving two times or drink-driving causing death, should result in vehicle shredding as you watch.

  • Gnance2010

We need to push the two constitutional anti-invasion mandates.
The word “shall” is a mandate.

The US ORGANIC LAW in the US Constitution provides two mandates for States and the Union of States to protect the Union from invasion. By extension it is the concurrent responsibility of every political subdivison of the State, i.e. every person sworn under oath to protect the State and US Constitution, is constitutionally responsible to detect, halt, hinder, report illegal aliens and invaders, regardless of them being military or civilian.Any aiding, abetting or comfort for illegal aliens is a violation of their oath and punishable as a misdemeanor or felony, which ever may apply. These sworn employees who violate their oath, and un-sworn civilians, can and should be held accountable for conspiracy of the crimes committed by the aliens.

    Article 1 Section 10 Clause 3
“No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.”

PARAPHRASED: “EVERY State shall, without the Consent of Congress engage in War, IF actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.”

    Article 4 Section 4
“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”

    PARAPHRASED:
“The STATES OF THE UNION shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”

    (1) Nope. NOT the best solution. Mexico and its people must recognize the Gadsden Purchase (http://avalon.law.yale.edu/19th_century/mx1853.asp) Mexico cannot become part of a North American Union on the order of the EU, because Mexico & Mexico’s people refused to recognize the Gadsden Purchase which Mexico was paid more than $10 million for 155 years ago, in contrast to the 26.4 times square miles LARGER Louisiana Purchase 200 years ago which was $15 million dollars the USA paid to France. Mexico lost the war in 1848 with the USA, and Mexico has refused to have any respect for USA laws ever since. Cannot have Mexico unite with the USA with no respect for USA laws.
((2)) 10 to 15 million gross total of illegal aliens entered the USA in the last 20 years, however China took more jobs from the USA in last 20 years than the 20 years before 1990. Illegal aliens do not save jobs in the USA from China, and the USA is the greatest land of opportunity for foreign nationals on earth, no other country of the world takes in more than 1.1 million LEGAL immigrants per year as the USA does.
((3)) Cite a study that links population growth with bankruptcy of a country? You cannot, because there is no causality between the two. China did not grow because of their population growth, China grew because they turned their own people into slaves.
((4)) Where do you believe immigrants will want to go to? Myanmar? Afghanistan? Zimbabwe? Hmmm? or maybe Sudan? Maldives? Burundi? or how about..Rwanda? Get real, enter the USA legaly or GET OUT.

Was this “Need to know” PBS piece on immigration supposed to be “Fair and balanced?” This “Need to know” piece on immigration was VERY imbalanced in presentation, I especially like at the end of the piece, the round table of one woman from NYU answering those questions, instead of 2 people, one from either side of this public discourse. Those that are against Fox News have nothing to complain about, “Need to know” is not delivering a “Fair and balanced” view on immigration.

Here is the proof that the Federal Government refuses to do their job, forcing the states to get involved.

According to this DHS 2010 report  http://1.usa.gov/emxnIe (Pg1), 62 percent of illegal aliens in the USA are from Mexico. Instead of you blaming the USA, perhaps you should look at Mexico? When is Mexico going to break up the monopolies in Mexico? Those monopolies and oligarchies in Mexico are a big part of the problem. When is Mexico going to reform its government? The voice of the Mexican people are not heard properly in Mexico. When is Mexico going to finally stop the oil-illegal-alien-remittance-OIL economic policies? The oil is running out, the illegal alien remittances was never a good long-term Gross Domestic Policy strategy, and does Mexico really believe the narco-agriculture strategy was going to last forever? Those that advocate making weed legal in the USA, will severely undermine a major cash flow for Mexico’s economy…Mexico will collapse if weed is made legal in the USA.

Also, before anyone tries to bring up NAFTA (effective in 1995)…

Those that came in the Mayflower were NOT illegal immigrants.

Cite the codified law that existed between 1600 and 1700, in the land we call the USA today, that made even ONE person on the Mayflower an illegal immigrant? You cannot, because there was NO codified law that existed in the 17th or 16th centuries that declared a legal path to immigrate to the land known as the USA today. Only after 1789, was there a codified law that declared what the legal path was to becoming a LEGAL entrant to the land known as the USA today…Here is a VERY LONG list of those laws (http://library.uwb.edu/guides/USimmigration/USimmigrationlegislation.html) AND… before Ellis Island, and before even 1875, the USA states had their own legislation about how a foreign national could legally enter their states or the USA.

The 270 million natives of the USA today, or USA-born, “feed and help” 1.1 million LEGAL new immigrants every year. In contrast, the total population of EVERYONE in the USA in 1701 was 262,000 people (PDFpg3, Colonial Population Table XI, column 1701, (http://1.usa.gov/qCtoV6) In FACT, at the same link you will find that in 1850 California population was 92,597 (PDFpg4, reportPg40)

You forgot your origin, and you distort the past deliberately to suit your agenda. Where are your sources? Your links? I am NOT an immigrant, I am the 270 million USA-born, otherwise known as the 88%. To use your logic…everyone outside of Africa is an immigrant, because we all originally came from Africa, which means that there were NEVER any natives to Asia, Europe, South America, Central America, or North America. DO NOT CONFLATE LEGAL IMMIGRATION with illegal immigration and/or illegal aliens, not same, not ever.

  • Anonymous

What the elle? The “undocumented,” as you call them, if they were not in the USA receiving or taking money to use on your “black friday” assertion, SOMEONE ELSE IN THE USA, probably a documented LEGAL person would be receiving or taking the money and spending it on “black friday.”

It is absolutely ignorant to assert that the “undocumented” are indispensable. A great deal of the higher unemployent rates in the Latino communiites in the USA can be attributed to the millions of “undocumented” Latinos that have ILLEGALLY entered the USA. Also, unemployment rates of LEGAL foreign born in the USA that have entered the USA LEGALLY as immigrants are also adversely impacted by illegal aliens in the USA that are here, and those that are still illegally entering the USA. AND anyone that thinks that a visa overstayer, especially those on H-1B that can stay in the USA for 6 years, does not impact college educated USA-born Americans are full of BS. (40% or more of illegal aliens in the USA are visa overstayers according to many studies.)

If you’re in Mexico then you have no say in this debate AT ALL. Your only job is to welcome them back.

  • Jmfay

    Mr Simon:

We have listened to you for many years on NPR so we are amazed that you didnt probe the NY professor about population growth.  This country takes over a million new immigrants for each of the last 10 years+, another 1 million new visa holders to do non ag work and lets not forget 300000 to 700000 new babies born of illegals.  We also have birth tourism.

There are over 20 million people who have the right to work here who cant find work.  If you took all the immigrants we have allowed in and also the us born of illegals that over 23 million on the low end over a 10 year period and this is the end of the 4th year of a hard recession with unemployment bearly budging so do we need more people?  not likely though we will allow 250000 total refugees per year but thats all.

Now lets talk about the 7 to 8 million illegals in the workforce; taking jobs that many Americans would do and also driving down our wages.  Thats our job too since we have done contract delivery for over 25 years.

Dont forget all the illegals and us born children of illegals in the school system with so many school districts having budget problems.  When we were in k through 12; we had every little issues with  kids not speaking English and the teacher would be able to help the slower learners but that is not the case any more.  Thats very unfair to the legal kids. Now we blame the teachers when so and so cant learn or isnt reading at grade level.

Would you like us to continue?  Next time do a better story and do your homework!

Uphold the law – stop enabling countries like Mexico to neglect their citizens!  People in countries like Mexico should stand up and fight for a Mexican dream in Mexico – not live illegally in the USA!

Property taxes do pay for schools and students who do not speak english do hold the rest back while they try to catch up.Ask a teacher if you know any! Here illegally you broke a law. Drive with no license you broke a law. Drive with no insurance you broke a law. Now go to a doctor and do not pay your bill, fine I will pay it for you.The money you earn send it home to your extended family in Mexico and provide them with money to stimulate the Mexican economy. Children learn from their parents.America is cruel so do not follow her laws.Another fact for you people in china work for much less than mexicans and have much worse conditions.SS deductions the price you pay for breaking the law.I am curious what SS does with that money?

Take down this wall? Do you mean the wall that separated a country in half? That has nothing to do with this debate. I do not think now that the wall is down you can just stroll into Germany and set up residence. I am an educated average U.S. citizen and there are a lot of countries that would not accept me simply because I want to live in them. Most would have language requirements and I would have to have resources or skills that were in demand, then if I were lucky enough for my “paper work” to go through I may get residency. I do feel sorry for the broken families, however I would be taking my chances if I to moved to a country and had children there, if I were deported I would have to deal with it. All we want is for people go through the legal requirements to gain legitimate entry. I would also, personally, like to see that people who expect to stay here long term have a working knowledge of English. Before anyone comes up with an argument over a national language I would also point out that many languages have been repressed in the U.S. We do not have a “if you speak German, French, Italian, Greek, etc. option” when we call a bank or a government office, nor do we see signs everywhere with all of the languages that are represented in the U.S. on them. As for the drug argument “ American appetite for drugs”, dangerous conditions come not only from the U.S. citizens that want them, but also because people in Mexico are illegally producing them.
Note to the Alabama Deputy that says it is hard to find a translator, if you deport them, that will cease to be much of a problem for you. As for your comment  ”For those of us with higher education degrees”  I do not believe you and site ”careers that are not in demand such as history” as (part of) my evidence, looks like India produces much better English speakers than you.

In short if you want to work in the U.S., do it legally, if you want to live here, learn the language that is spoken here. If you are a legal immigrant, I welcome you.

We have created the problem by trying to deny Mexican people the right to come to work, then return home. It is so hard to come that they are forced to stay . If they could come and go easily there would be fewer staying here. I’ll bet a good portion of those hung up about the legality of the immigrants have also violated the law by speeding while driving or fudging on their income tax or expense accounts. Those “illegal” immigrants, like immigrants before them, contribute more to our society through productive work and taxes paid then they cost. The country would be poorer if they were all deported.

  • XXValid31XX

Your right, they fed the immigrants and “let” them in, then the natives lost EVERYTHING. The immigrants took over ALL their land and did away with all of their “laws” and traditions. I guess you would say that the natives should forgive them of these crimes because the pilgrims produced. Now that this is our country I believe we should not make the same mistake.

You’ve made a very good point. Immigrants, BAD!

  • Merit

Funny you would bring up moving to China, they would not accept us. If we are lucky enough to collect taxes from a few, think of all of the people that get payed under the table . As for illegals paying taxes they will not be refunded, another good reason to apply for LEGAL STATUS before you break our laws and get “ripped off”.
Jobs kept in the U.S. is a misnomer because they are not filled with our citizens. A company in the U.S. filled with illegals does not help U.S. citizens anyway, so I don’t care if they close. It is funny that you point out the many laws illegals break, it is against the law for them to be here then they break more laws (and support organized crime) by getting an illegal SS number, every illegal I have met (yes I know a few) and shows I have seen show me that too many people live in apartments or houses than is legal, breaking housing and fire codes. I am sure illegal aliens cost the U.S. much more than they pay in, if for no other reason their children benefit.

For the comment above that says that we are hypocrites for not catching people at Walmart sales, we cannot because of profiling, you are not driving so we cannot ask for your licence, maybe we should change that. Is it bad to profile? what if the FBI wants to go after a Russian mob, should they assume that a black man would be the head of that organization? If I break into your house and you tell police that I am a white male, should they be equally looking at black females? So profiling in police work happens all the time. Profiling would be a powerful tool for police I am torn on the profiling issue at this time, but you make a good point, maybe we should change our views and laws.

I guess what I am saying is why don’t you and your friends go back and we’ll take our chances. :)

When will the madness Stop! We need to Protect these illegal immigrants and their children! SO let make ICE do their JOB and DEPORT all these poor illegal immigrants and their chidren back to whatever country they came FROM. CONFISCATE ALL their WORLDLY POSSESSIONS and Sale their Possessions at Public Auction and use the Money to Help Pay for Social sevices for Legal Immigrants and United States Citizens. Deport more of these poor illegal immigrants Back to their Homeland Broke. That way it will discourage them to Stay at their Homeland, People not to come to United States without PROPER PAPERS. Illegal immigrants and their children ARE costing United States Taxpayers BILLIONS of Dollars. They are not “illegal” immigrants!   They are illegal aliens!   Not from mars!   They have been doing this for ever and never covering the costs that American Citizens have to pay for them to be here, in medical, in the courts, in the schools!

Nope. People in the USA sucumb to the consequence of speeding, loss of driver’s license, insurance rates go up, fines, may lose your job if you cannot find transport to work, if you were going over 20 to 25 mph over the speed limit you are arrested, points on your record, traffic safety school, charges for damage to property, possibly reckless driving charges, etc.

The consequence of being in the USA illegally is deportation. Americans face the consequences of speeding in the USA, illegal aliens should face the consequence of being in the USA illegally, deportation.

    BTW,
Mexico’s people are in 1st place compared to the WHOLE world in the following categories
    1. Most people becoming USA citizens(http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/statistics/publications/natz_fr_2009.pdf)
    2. Most people getting Legal Permanent Resident status or Green Card (http://www.travel.state.gov/pdf/FY09AnnualReport_TableIII.pdf) (Page 4 http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/statistics/publications/lpr_fr_2009.pdf)
    3. Most nonimmigrant visas (Page 5 http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/statistics/publications/ni_fr_2009.pdf) (http://www.travel.state.gov/pdf/FY09AnnualReport_TableXVIII.pdf)
    4. Most foreign-born population in USA compared to whole world
    1st) Mexico 29.8%
    2nd) China   5.2%
    3rd) Phil’   4.5%
    4th) India   4.3%
     …

Mexico’s people have “the right to work” in the USA like NO OTHER nationality, race, religion, creed, etc. in the world. MEXICO’S PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE ENTERING THE USA ILLEGALLY AS WELL. According to the following link (page 1), 62% of illegal aliens in the USA are from Mexico http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/statistics/publications/ois_ill_pe_2010.pdf

How’s this for an idea? Make entering this country illegally a felony. Make the fine $2500 plus one year in Federal prison. Make this the same on overstayed VISAs. If drugs are involved, triple the fine. Then, apply this to all the illegal aliens in this country now. Leave or if you get caught, the fine will apply to them. Maybe, just maybe, this will take the place of a fence that is costly and doesn’t seem to work all that well. It may even cut down on the cost of deporting these illegal aliens. The other thing is this birthright citizenship. We MUST know through Congress or the Supreme Court if indeed a child born to an illegal alien is a U.S. citizen. I say they are not. If not, then, how do we REVOKE the birth certificates already issued. Boy, can you see the problems with this illegal immigration? Maybe Congress should allow states to enforce immigration laws, or at least a few of them. When is enough going to be enough? Tell me!

After reading all of the comments I believe the poll is skewed. It is easy to push a button then get your
friends to hit it. 258/254 sounds kind of equal however the comments are no where near 50/50. IMHO the poll is useless.

  • Just as Concerned as You

They have no RIGHT under our laws, Federal or State, to enter the US to work. They have the privilege to apply for a visa to enter our country legally for whatever purpose that visa allows. Case closed. Enforce the laws as written. If you want to change something, petition your Representatives to modify the laws.

  • elle

They’re no indispensable, but clearly we take their money. My point is that let’s be real, if the country was serious about keeping out the undocumented, they would. And if the country was serious about detaining and deporting the undocumented, they would. No, our country would not immediately collapse but rest assured that our economic standing would drop because there would be no way our workforce could complete with the highly populated China, India, and Brazil…. those are the rising world powers and that is highly correlated with their high population.  So stop with your pseudo-vigilante rhetoric and admit to yourself that your issue is an ethnic and racial issue, not one about legality.

  • Merit

Get the 10 million illegals out and will let 1 million legal immigrants in right away. All lines move slower when people cut in front.

  • Mburk

One of the most devastating aspects of illegals coming into this country is our public school system. The school’s economics are drained, a significant portion of the illegals don’t care about education and seek a sort of asylum in the school. Those kids bring gangs, lack of parental oversight, lower test scores, and create an atmosphere of terror in the schools.

Some public schools in California now have about ten percent of the total school population as self-identified gang members. They use the schools to sell drugs, intimidate the administration, and avoid prosecution of being illegal.

Illegals pump over 25 billion of untaxed dollars from the U.S. to Mexico. They drain the public health system by using emergency care to see a doctor (as dictated by U.S. laws), even though they cannot and will not pay anything for the services rendered, thereby driving up health care costs. Some California cities have had to shut down emergency care centers that have larger hispanic populations.

Crime, crime, crime. How many gang members are killing innocent bystanders in California? The civility of our inner cities decays, our schools become dumping grounds, our kids are living in fear at public schools.

Where is there a debate? Illegals bring crime, unemployment, overuse of public resources. In time they will completely ruin this country, no matter how much PBS wants to preserve the ‘family’ rights.

The reason I “won’t go back” is because I was born here you xenophobe and I am disgusted that you would assume otherwise and find it ok to harass a fellow American, but of course not surprised because that is the false rhetoric of people like you. And you are wrong about “you are not driving so we cannot ask for your license” because people have been harassed about their legal status at work and schools and hospitals for DECADES. Obviously I don’t want anyone in line at Walmart, etc. to be detained. The whole point is that we terrorize these HUMAN BEINGS when it’s convenient for us to do so.

  • Merit

Do you know how right you are? When people argue how immigration has been the American way, they are forgetting about the shear numbers of people that come here now, I don’t think that Ellis Island processed the numbers we are seeing today. Just think if we opened the borders completely, it would be in the multi-millions.

I like what you say, except the year in jail, costs us $40K for one year, now if we could bill Mexico
    AND get paid, OK.

    Per Wikipedia:

Burgeoning numbers of Mexican migrants prompted President Dwight D. Eisenhower to appoint General Joseph Swing as INS Commissioner. According to Attorney General Herbert Brownell, Jr., Eisenhower had a sense of urgency about illegal immigration upon taking office. In a letter to Senator J. William Fulbright, Eisenhower quoted a report in The New York Times that said, “The rise in illegal border-crossing by Mexican ‘wet****s’ to a current rate of more than 1,000,000 cases a year has been accompanied by a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the Federal Government.”

The effort began in California and Arizona in 1954 and coordinated 1075 Border Patrol agents, along with state and local police agencies. Tactics employed included going house to house in Mexican-American neighborhoods and citizenship checks during standard traffic stops.

Some 750 agents targeted agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions per day. By the end of July, over 50,000 illegal aliens were caught in the two states. An estimated 488,000 illegal aliens are believed to have left voluntarily, for fear of being apprehended. By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and the INS estimated that 500,000 to 700,000 had left Texas of their own accord. To discourage illicit re-entry, buses and trains took many deportees deep within Mexican territory before releasing them.

  • Heyokus1

When you give the American birthright of opportunity away to foriegn invaders you steal  from the rightful owners of this country. You give away what doesn’t belong to you.
No country can simply throw open it’s borders to all comers and expect to preserve its future.
Insulting terms like racist are a mere sop for your inability to grasp the real meaning of this matter for most Americans. These illegals are NOT WANTED HERE. They are criminals.

  • Richijk

The sad thing about the situation is how we are looking at it.  We DO HAVE LAWS, why aren’t they being enforced?  Time to do something with those “in charge”!
Is anyone else forgetting those silly little unimportant health & security documents needed to cleared.

  • elle

Thank you “guest”, that is the answer that I was waiting for because your generalized response has revealed your xenophobic thoughts. It sounds like your issues have less to do with legal or illegal immigration and more with social and cultural norms. So stop masking your issues with the “illegal” argument and admit that you are racist. Oh, and you don’t have a problem with polygamy if it’s on a TV show about mormons, and you don’t have a show with overcrowding living conditions if it’s a bunch of frat boys, and you don’t have a problem with people visiting the motherland if they’re Jewish, and you don’t have a problem with Korean TV do you? You have a problem with the brown man, so just be honest once and for all.

There are many cities in California La Colinia near Oxnard being one of them that will change your mind.I would like to invite you yo visit or try to live in one of those cities.People like you would never do that because it would prove you to be wrong.Oh by the way ask legal immigrants how they feel about losing their jobs to someone working for less.

And if you were to deny US citizenship to children merely born in the USA to transient aliens or to parents neither of whom were a US citizen, then think how much those children would enrich the nation of their parents nationality, when they grew up, got educated, and were patriotic citizens.  Imagine the “Real World”  change that would occur in Third World nations.
You see it has to do with the concept of “consular jurisdiction” resulting from treaties that establish “mutual diplomatic relationships”. A transient alien is under consular jurisdiction, and children born to them are not US citizens under some State laws and the 14th Amendment jurisdiction clause. If the child born under jurisdiction of California laws, is not a citizen of California, then how can the child be a US citizen?

“share a 1 bedroom with 9 others” Also illegal, unsafe and against fire code. Even if “all” 10 of you are very  clean it is still allot more wear and tear on the apartment. If any are children in schools, rent collected from your apartment does not add up to the costs of schooling. You are not unwelcome here just don’t break our laws, starting with cutting in line in front of your fellow Mexicans. We should suspend government aid to Mexico until their government helps us with securing the border, I’d be willing to bet that if they were losing millions ($551 million just in aid not including investments or remittance: over 28 billion) they would patrol the border from their side.

“Real Cab Driver” I am sorry that you were in an armed robbery, I truly am. But any criminal or any racial/social/ethnic background could have done it. Criminals are criminals and there should be no tolerance for them, period. But to start generalizing is irresponsible and you know is not fair. There are many honest, ethical, kind people in all racial/social/ethnic groups. So if it wasn’t the “2 under privileged Latino youth, 16 year old anchor babies” robbing you, it could have been anyone else. A disenfranchised young man with tattoos, blue eyes, and blond hair robbed my parents house… does that mean that I will from now one hate and persecute all young men with tattoos, blue eyes, and blond hair? Only if I’m a racist (which I am not, so I won’t).

  • jim

If you are a legal citizen you would do better to offer a reasonable solution to this problem. If you cant do the time dont do the crime. If you do not want the laws enforced then dont call the cops if you are attacked or raped. What would happen to me if I were in Mexico illegally?Do not think any toro caca since I am from southern California so I already know!

  • Gnance2010

The illegals have broken the US immigration system by not following our laws. It is their fault if they or their children suffer the consequences. If they can afford a coyote or not, they can either find the money to get a passport in their country and apply at the US consulate for a visa to work here legally. Those who break our immigration laws accept the exploitation.
Sorry, but the flow must be regulated. If they would come here legally, Congress would put more staff and border crossings. This isn’t Disneyland, but even the theme parks limit admission to those who enter through the open gates and evict those who jump the wall.
So, as you say the USA would be “poorer if they were all deported”, then you would agree, that since the USA is a “developed nation”, then their home nation would be enriched by their presence. Would it also be best to educate their children in the customs and traditions familiar to the family, rather than adjusting and assimilating to a foreign land? Who better to fix Mexico than Proud Mexicans? Make Mexico Better, Deport a Proud Mexican to Mexico. Preserve the USA for Proud US Citizens.

  • Gnance2010

“We take their money”? No, we take their labor and play them what they accept in a free market, but they under bid US. If, they want $15 an hour they should demand it. But, they need to demand more pay and benefits in their homeland.

  • Gnance2010

It is absolutely criminal that US Citizens are coerced to fund K-12 education for children of illegal aliens, but if we deported those children, they would take with them the concepts of our school systems, our lifestyle, our freedoms, and hopefully make their homeland better by changing the government, ending corruption and planting the Liberty tree.

  • Lisa

So, you were born here?  Then you are an American citizen, right?  What the heck is the problem?  Your parents now, maybe another story and if they are not legal then they do not have any rights in America.  They knew when they came the consequences of coming here illegal.  Now, If I went to Mexico and was without papers, I would be thrown in jail/prison and much more.

I think granting amnesty would be a horrible idea. But I would  consider it if there was somehow a way that corresponding justice could be served to elites responsible for last nights program and illegal immigration in general. I’m sorry that everyone in the world doesn’t have access to the better lives that are available to those who live in this country. People can make whatever arguments they please to promote illegal immigration but when the news media in general and PBS in particular push their illegal immigration agendas through propaganda and suppression of honest debate, that crosses the line, and that they are so far across it they can’t even see what principled journalism on illegal immigration is about.

By the way, Gustavo Arellano, who writes “Ask A Mexican” (did viewers of Need To Know get told that?), called what he did on the show propagandizing. http://blogs.ocweekly.com/navelgazing/2011/11/see_it_now_pbs.php

It’s worth reading the comments to Arellano’s blog post, which he participates in, both to read better arguments and to gauge what kind of a person he is.

  • Gnance2010

Hmmm, so what you are saying is, “If they weren’t here, then we couldn’t harass them?”
Yes, I like that view. If they don’t come here illegally, then we don’t bother them.
As for your un-warranted “xenophobe” comment, although they aren’t an alien life form, they are like an invasive species, that enters and colonizes, and resists efforts to clear them out.
They take in US$ that they export from our local economy. Money that would generate tax revenue had it stayed here.
If the US President issued a proclamation ordering illegals from a list of countries to depart or face criminal deportation, they would go.
If a US President issued an order to the US Military, and mobilized the assets, we would see “Papers Please” checks, and internment camps would spring up in places not used since Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
If I was the President, it would happen. I’d use train cars and cattle trailers, authorize citizen’s arrest of illegals, and pay a $50 bounty per each. Now, before we reach that point, don’t you agree it would be best if they sold their stuff, took their money, and freely returned to their homelands?

  • Captkelso

I just wanted to acknowledge your argument. Agricultural jobs ARE in fact unpopular. Stoop labor is tough, and compensation is unfairly inadequate. It is not ironic that the children of agricultural laborers far prefer working as salesclerks, nurses, in construction, tree trimming, etc rather than continue the same lifestyle as their parents. I live in an agricultural area of California, and the children of our local farmers don’t want to be farmers anymore either. When I go to the store, most of the produce for sale is already being grown in Mexico (less restrictions on pesticides, etc). Frankly, it is difficult to envision a native agricultural industry in California in another decade or two, except for vineyards, organic  & hydroponic farming, fish farms, and speciality high income crops.

The argument that undocumented workers are needed for agribusiness is specious.  Work permits can be issued for temporary workers. Their entry and exit visas could be stamped and their movements monitored. They would have to return to their home country at the end of the harvest season. Their children should be forbidden from stoop labor under 16 years, and these restrictions should be rigorously enforced. We would need to ensure the education of their children. The costs of these programs could be paid for by removal of agribusiness subsidies. We WILL have to pay an increasing percentage of our total income on food.

The entire issue of “anchor babies” needs to be addressed through an amendment to the constitution. The idea that someone giving birth here in the USA can claim citizenship for their child, thereby allowing the parents, siblings, and extended family to be allowed to come here under the highest priority for legal immigration upon their majority makes a mockery of our current US immigration system. This outrage is being perpetrated not only by Latinos, but by Asians, and other ethnic groups as well. Tourists can qualify as easily as undocumented workers!

Essentially, what we are doing is participating in the destruction of our standard of living. Taxpayers end up with the bill. Our children are going to have a far lower standard of living than their parents. At some point, the entire welfare system is going to collapse because the resources will no longer become available to continue to perpetuate this untenable economic nightmare for the States of this USA.

Federal leaders don’t have the political will to deal with this problem. They also don’t have the political will to confront the issues presented by our National Deficit. No one wants to come to grips with the economic future of Our Great Country.

  • Clockman2011

All illegal immigrants should be rounded up and deported.  After all they are criminals and should be treated as such.  Our federal government is in violation of our constitution article 4 section 4 which says they will protect each state against invasion.  Not only are they unconstitutionally allowing them to invade us but are rewarding them for being criminals a violation of all citizens constitutional rights.  We the citizens must demand our government honor our constitution and deport all of them

  • Allen

Why are there immigrants in our country?  They want to work and support their families and there are employers who are hiring them.  Are immigrants taking away jobs from citizens?  Are unemployed citizens applying for the jobs that immigrants are working at?  Why don’t employers hire citizens first?  There are many factors contributing to the situation.  Targeting immigrants is not the solution.  Aren’t most of the citizens in our country today, descendants of immigrants?  We forget our past. Immigrants probably have a net positive effect on the well-being of our country.  Let’s not have tunnel vision.

  • Richbart

Are those who favor illegal immigration willing to pay the costs that these illegal immigrants impose now and in the future?

It is hard to understand why underpreviliged Americans support politicians who discriminate against them in favor of illegal immigrants.

When are American minorities going to wake up and punish such politicians? I presume that these minorities do not have a responsible candidate to vote for. That is why we need a new American political movement that represents those in the middle.

After seeing how biased the Need-to-Know report was in favor of illegal immigration, I can now sympathize with my right-wing friends who accuse PBS of being extremely liberal. The best PBS report on immigration was the Immigration Special that was presented on the To The Contrary earlier this year. See: http://video.pbs.org/video/1990150738.

What utter propganda!  ‘Work Americans don’t want’?  How did we get along before the PR campaign downplayed the lawbreakers who sneak in and demand welfare (in Spanish).  ‘Latino’?  Why can’t they be ‘Americans’?  Because they bring their culture of lawlessness in with them?

are you aware of the farmers who have tried to complie due to the new laws in their states.  in ever case when they hired local people who were unemployed, those people walked off the job in one or two days.  they could not handle the hard work it takes to pick and process produce.  even if the farmers offered to raise the pay a little.  which of course would have raised the cost of the produce to the consumers.  Richbart you really seriously need to stop being so easily programmed by your masters and discover the truth.  What costs are you reffering to?

  • Sam

Life is full of choices. An illegal immigrant has shown a willingness to disobey if not an outright disdain for our law. They have no legal right to any consideration under our laws. Deport them. People argue that it breaks up families. So does committing other crimes like assault, theft, or murder. It’s sad to break up families, but the fault lies with the criminal, not the law. Deport them, they are criminals from the moment the enter the U.S. illegally.

I WORKED IN THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY. MOST OF THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ABUSES MEDICAID AND SOCIAL SERVICES(WELFARE). THEY RECEIVE FREE HOUSING,FOOD STAMPS,WIC AND CONTINUE TO HAVE CHILDREN HERE AND LIVE OFF OF THE TAX PAYERS. AND THEY WORK OFF THE BOOKS AND PAY NOTHING TOWARDS TAXES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MOST OF THEM THAT THEY ARE BEING PAID TO HAVE CHILDREN HERE BY THE US GOVERNMENT. MAJORITY OF THEM ALSO HAVE CHILDREN THEY HAVE LEFT BEHIND IN THEIR COUNTRY, WHOM THEY MAY OR MAY NOT SEND MONEY. WHY DO THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT BREAKING UP FAMILIES WHEN THEY LEFT THEIR OWN CHILDREN BEHIND AND STARTED NEW FAMILIES HERE. I FEEL IF THEY ARE NOT CITIZENS THEY SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET AMERICAN BIRTH CERTIFICATES. WHEN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WHO WORK AT LOW WAGES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR MOST OF THESE SERVICES BECAUSE THEY MAY MAKE A LITTLE TOO MUCH FOR ELIGIBILITY. MEAN WHILE THEIR STRUGGLING, TO SURVIVE.IF THEY HAD CLAIMED TO BE ILLEGAL,QUIT THEIR JOBS, THEY WOULD RECEIVE ALL BENIFITES AND COULD WORK OFF THE BOOKS. AND LIVE TAX FREE. I HAD CLIENTS WHO WAS RECEIVING SERVICES FOR FREE THEOR THEIR FOURTH CHILD AND WANTED US TO HURRY BECAUSE THEIR HUSBANDS WERE OPENING AN NEW GAS STATION AND ONE WHO’S HUSBAND WAS OPENING AN NEW HOTEL. MOST OF OUR CLIENTS WOULD FLY HERE ON VACATION TO GIVE BIRTH AND THEY ARE DOCTORS,LAWYERS IN THEIR COUNTRY. THE SYSTEM NEEDS TO STOP GIVING OUT TAX PAYERS MONEY TO UNDOCUMENTED RESIDENTS.

Illegal people break our laws when they come in our country.  Why should our citizens have to pay for their kids to go to school here. Why Should illegal people have free health care, free benefits when a lot of our own citizens can not get HELP. They take our jobs, bring lots of drugs into states, have gang wars. They are stealing just about anything. My old neighbor hood is not fit to live in now because of the illegals moving in. Would you want 15 or 20 people living in one house? Or the same house having 10 cars parked all up and down the street? Not all illegals are from Latin countries. Al lot of other people have found they can slip into the U S through the border of Mexico. What about those who would be terrorists?  WE MUST ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAWS. WE must make those who don’t have the right to be here GO HOME. Why should a child that is of illegal parents be a citizen just because it was born here? A lot of illegals don’t follow our laws.  If they can stay here and don’t  have to have insurance on a CAR or A LICENSE to Drive one, then is that NOT being unfair to our citizens?
Laws in America should protect the rights of citizens NOT ILLEGALS

You’re either exceptionally naive, or uneducated regarding the millions of dollars illegals cost the taxpayers of the United States.

You’ll never get them to pay a fine.  They don’t even pay for their kids’ schools or ER visits.

  • Clark

Does any one realize that a lot of big businessmen help bring illegals into the U S?  WHY so they can hire them, pay them cash, and not have to report or pay taxes on their help. There are a lot of business that are done out of homes. Many have no addresses listed for their business. SO, do they pay any taxes on a business where there is no record of even having a business? You wonder WHY our land is in trouble and so many don’t have jobs. Our big businesses have closed manufacturing in America in favor of cheap labor. American citizens should have the right to OUR jobs not illegals.  I hear so many say, we only do the jobs others will not do. That is wrong!!!  Fact is employers will hire the cheap illegal workers first. There are laws about hiring illegals but NO ONE WILL ENFORCE THEM.

If you are saying that it is better for illegal immigrants when they are given citizenship, I wouldn’t dispute that. I assume it’s better for illegal immigrants here even when their illegality isn’t rewarded with citizenship, or otherwise I’d assume they wouldn’t be here. Amnesty is just an additional benefit, though a huge one, to the benefits illegal immigrants currently reap for being in the country illegally.

I’ll stipulate that having a policy that limits people’s ability to immigrate to the United States inherently means that some people who would otherwise be good citizens won’t have that opportunity. How can that be otherwise? Any limitation of open immigration will deny some good people what we have. But does that mean that the citizens of this country can’t choose to limit immigration to some amount that they find reasonable and desirable? It’s clear from surveying over time that strong majorities of the voters have both wanted immigration limited to the current legal levels or less and that they are opposed to illegal immigration. But those desires of the electorate simply aren’t possible without effective, coherent enforcement of the law, as if the current reality leaves any doubt about that.

And even if you an your family are good citizens, you are evidence of why the amnesty is a bad idea. If the citizens of this country want one thing but allow large scale immigration that creates a population that wants another, they are allowing a demographic destruction of the country they want.

When I brought my Korean wife back to the States after working a few years overseas, I had to produce and send to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), copies of all my financial and employment records to show I could support her (U.S. citizen 5 years later, now married for 15 years). So, who provides the financial support for low wage illegal immigrants? Who checks that the same support requirements are being met of recent immigrant that bring their extended families here once they become citizens? Who pays the cost of public housing, public schools, food stamps, medicaid so that businesses, small and large, can squeeze their profits from cheap labor. We, the tax payer. Let goods and services reflect their true cost. I’ll have the option of choice in my buying. I’m not against people wanting to come here to live and work, I’m against picking up the bill for it. Now add to that the cost of finding, transporting, jailing, prosecuting, jailing again, then sending that illegal home again (all expense paid).

  • WTH?

Do we even have the money to deport 10M+ illegal immigrants and secure our borders to prevent any more?  What would that cost, and what would be our benefit?

You can do your own research and arithmetic, but as far as I can tell, we spend about $2B/year to deport a little under 400K illegal immigrants.

At that rate, we should have all this solved in about 25 years, assuming no one else gets in illegally.  Who knows what it will cost over that time.

Until that gets addressed, debate is irrelevant.

  • WTH?

Make that billions (specifically about $2B/year to deport them)

  • WTF?

Yes, all expenses paid, like a cruise or a vacation at Club Med.  Golly, I WISH I could get deported on the taxpayer’s dime!  That sounds like a lot of FUN!!!!!

  • Bedisney

Set program. Get in to system. And. Pay a fine

  • WTH?

Yeah… and the Swedes and Norwegians are really creepy.  All those skis on the front porch.

For illegal immigrants who is already in the country:

-illegal immigrants who has not committed any crime should be provided a path to citizenship.

-illegal immigrants who has committed crime should be punished and deported.

Enforcement at the border should strengthen and increased to prevent further illegal immigration.

This whole conversation is pointless. The president gave a wonderful speech months ago which was all but ignored by programs like this because along with empathy and compassion he said that there would have to be responsibility.  (the unions hated this so it went away) The federal government dumped the problem on the states, then make villains out of the people who enforce the laws.  If we as a country truly wanted to solve this problem it would be solved.  Take out the rhetoric and work towards a solution.  Allow migrant worker passes so that people who want to work can do so.  Have a record who they are and how long they can stay.  They can be applying to stay while they work.  Problem?  That may take time.  Also, you would have to contribute to the system you are getting benefits from.  The outcry from the left on this issue has never been followed by “and this is so important to me I’m sending money to the school system and hospitals to help pay for it”.  I would love if everyone who wanted to come to this great country could but we have quotas and application processes for every other group don’t we?  It couldn’t be that this particular demographic votes for a certain party could it?  If anyone had a chance to bring change it was our President and he did nothing.  Business as usual.  Shame, shame shame.

I wish there were some way undocumented immigrants could find sponsors. A very good friend is a physician from El Salvador. Here in New Mexico, there are billboards advertising that our state needs doctors and nurses. A Spanish speaking doctor should be very employable. Yet, my friend who has been trained and has worked as a family physician for years must settle for work as a babysitter, since our country favors immigrants with white faces over those with a chocolate complexion. She has spent tens of thousands on an immigration lawyer in NY. Unfortunately, Central Americans are low on the list for citizenship–that after the US heavily involved itself in decades of covert wars, deposing democratically elected leaders, and essentially ruining the livelihoods of millions.

  • Jtphilaw

The solution to undocumented workers is already at hand. The issuance of non-forageable green cards (probably based on fingerprint technology) is part of the answer. All we need is a government program that can track movement of a given worker as he crosses the border in either direction. (I understand that the current tracking of social security numbers is less than adequate) Anyone wishing to hire a guest worker would contact an employment agency (or the workers themselves) and then notify the government agency of whom they are hiring, which would open the door for the worker.

Currently there are many cases of undocumented workers using illegally obtained social security numbers, paying the social security taxes. Under my system the guest worker would pay a similar tax that would cover the costs that the current undocumented workers are responsible for such as emergency room medical costs and the education of their children, uninsured automobile accidents, etc. (These costs are estimated at over 30 billion dollars per year, somewhat offset by the collected social security tax benefits that some undocumented workers are paying for but not claiming)

The inclusion of the tax would raise the cost of labor to that similar to our regular workers. The obvious problem is that many businesses would still be tempted to skirt the law and still use undocumented workers. Energetic prosecution of these individuals would be essential.

Legal immigration is a separate matter and should be handled as such. The program outlined above would be much less expensive than the fence and border patrol expansion currently being considered, and would make those measures unnecessary.

Illegal aliens know very well they are illegally in the United States when they enter without visas or overstay their visas. Therefore, they must be deported. They do not obey our immigration laws. We US citizens obey the laws. If we do not, we go to jail. Why do illegal aliens have to have a different standart or treatment? No way. The law is the law and illegals must obey them. THey do not want to, must be deported. And the politicians must not listen to illegal aliens or La Raza. They must only listent to US citizens. Come Nov 2012, we will vote Obama out. PERIOD. The demos will always support illegal aliens. We have to vote all the demos out.

  • Steffie

It is easy for people to repeat what certain politicians and political pundits are saying on this topic, specifically that illegal immigrants ”take away our jobs and are a drain on our health care and education system”. However, independent studies by (American) university scholars have by and large descredited a number of those so-called facts. For instance, one economist has found that the possible harm due to illegal immigration on the work force is limited to low skilled workers. One might rightfully argue that this still amounts to taking away jobs from Americans, but I have frequently heard interviews with American employers who claim that they can’t find Americans who want to do the jobs they have to offer, in spite of the fact that they are willing to pay them higher wages than they would illegal immigrants.

In some cases, the Americans who were hired walked out within a matter of weeks. Furthermore, a 2008 report by the Perryman Group emphasized that illegal immigrant contributions through taxes of various types far exceed the amount spend on undocumented children or children born in the US to illegal immigrants. As a legal immigrant to the US, I can see both sides of the issue. No, I wouldn’t like illegal immigrants to come to my country of origin and “take away the jobs of my fellow citizens”. On the other hand, I could afford the nearly decade it took to become a legal immigrant to the US. I was privileged to have had a decent education even before coming to the US and was, by anyone’s standard, relatively well off. But if I had been poor, had to eke out an existence, and saw no future whatsoever for my children in my own country, I don’t think I could have waited ten years to put a life of misery behind me. And so, whenever I hear, read, or see another report about illegal immigrants, one sentence comes to mind:”There, but for the grace of God, go I”.

  • Saberblue37

They have broken the law by crossing the border, and continue to break it each day they stay. Send them back across the border immediately.

  • Saberblue37

You don’t need to go that far. They broke our law by crossing into the Country, they must be deported immediately!

I would heavily fine any employer who knowingly hires an illegal.

illegal is illegal doesn’t matter its immigration or presidential prosicute

  • Kyoteee1

Illegal aliens (the correct term because real immigrants have entered the USA legally) have already committed an egregious crime by slinking and sneaking into our country. They need to be rounded up and deported immediately … not detained for years on end at American taxpayers’ expense.

  • Kyoteee1

It only costs a bus ticket to deport illegal aliens back to Mexico. They can find their way home from there, whether it be in Mexico, South America, Cuba, China, Africa, or wherever. Not our problem, it’s theirs!

  • Zilkad

I don’t know how they got their figures but I know a lot of people who would GLADLY take any job they can get. And I have personally worked a lot of jobs that these illegals do and would gladly do it again! Many of my friends and family are unemployed and believe me when I say we will work any job we can get!

  • Zilkad

Excuse me they have ALL commited crimes the moment they came here illegally!

  • Pats_tools

Yes this country was build by immigrant, but once this was an actual country they came legally. As for the jobs that would not be done if they were all send back. I do not have a problem at all with send those that are here illegally back, but increase the number of visas issued for guest workers. If they are here legally, they will also no suffer the abuse of employers taking advantage of them with excessively low wages and no benefits

  • Lsonmor

Your $2B/year includes all of customs enforcement, which has to do with the trafficking of product not people, the C in ICE is customs enforcement. The C in CBP again has to do with customs, the border patrol also looks for product smuggling, not just people. If you really want to know everything that ICE and CBP does for the $2B/year…go to http://www.ICE.gov and http://www.CBP.gov and read that they do many functions that have nothing to do with deportation of people.

Also, you make E-verify mandatory to be used by every loan officer, landlords, pay day check cashing service, checking account for a bank, debit card paycheck service, day laborers, ldriver’s license, employer, and business license application. If illegal aliens cannot work in the USA, or get housing in the USA, they will leave.

It took 20 years to get to this point, NOBODY ever said it would be resolved in one day or one year.

  • Guest

Excuse me!! I know a lot of people including me that have done these jobs gladly!

  • Emdar

There are multiple jobs at that level in Alabama, Georgia and other places that have run the immigrants out…the farmers, etc, cannot seem to fill these jobs, anecdotal knowledge of a person or two who might take these jobs does not make it true that Americans will by and large fill these positions, with unemployment as high as it is these jobs should have people clamoring for them, instead the opposite is true.

You are operating on the popular yet faulty premise that America is a nation-state that needs to adjust its gate-width every time someone is discontented with the conditions in their own nation-state. Do the hard work…bleed a little fix your own nation-state. Read about the American Revolution and what it took to create a free nation.Take note. Then inspire these people to saddle up and go fix their own nation-states. We Americans believe in self-suffiency, limited government, RULE OF LAW,resourcefulness and capitalism. Please tell your friends that until the bleeding is done they will not have a decent place to settle. That is called history, observe and take note.

You are stupid or ignorant, you decide.  Our ancestors or at least mine came through legal channels.  Most of the immigrant do but some think they are special and don’t need to or coming for illegal reasons.  We are a country of FREEDOM but not free stuff.  Stuff costs money and they do not contribute to the well-being of the country, do they?  They are a cost to the country.  And by the way, who wants a democratic society, we live in a Republic society!  Majority doesn’t rule, we elect representatives….. to my previous statement, you decide.

I’m all for Immigrants coming here, Leagly.. But for the hordes who sweep across Illeagly I have no compassion, How can they say that they want to be citizens of our country when from first entry they break the laws.. How can you condone that? Firstly and foremost, If they break the laws they should receive no amnesty what so ever, They should be delt with severly… Any more they have more rights then the leagle citizens, and its because of bleeding heart liberals like you that we are watching America being swallowed hole. While the hard working, tax paying Americans bear the full weight…

Clearly you didn’t look at the poll results.  The majority of Americans would prefer that people who come here do so legally, or be deported.  If someone does not respect our immigration laws why should we expect them to respect any of our other laws?  Please do not try to pull the “redneck, intolerant, ignorant, bigot” ,….and so-on card with me.  My children are Hispanic (legal) American citizens.  We moved from Texas to another state, however there father still lives and pays property taxes in Texas….why is okay for an illegal to be able to break our laws and be rewarded with subsidized housing, healthcare, AND in-state tuition when it is denied to my own children who are citizens.  We cannot be the welfare state to the entire world…in case you haven’t noticed this nation is in very poor financial shape.

As usual, PBS /Need to Know presented an extremely biased view of the immigration debate.  First, nobody asked the question about what could have happened if the apprehended Guatemalan had an accident with no Drivers License and no insurance especially when he and others like him can easily skip the country.   Second, the Unites States is the third most populous country and one of the fastest growing owing to immigration both legal and illegal.  It defies common sense that the United Sates or any other country can let the rest of the world pour in.  Yet, and unbelievably, there are those who believe that unrestrained immigration is a right.  They have no have no appreciation of limits, and refuse to draw the connections between population growth and a deteriorating environment, social structure, and an unsustainable economic system.  Immigration is also a huge business and people like NYU Professor Alina Das make a good living off of it. Finally, while Gustavo Arellano makes some very valid points his basic threat is that Hispanics will vote against anyone who opposes letting in unlimited numbers of immigrations from South of the Border.  This is same xenophobic agenda that Open Borders advocates accuse their opponents of.

  • Jimlin46_a

“Redneck Mentality”??  Bleeding heart mentality is the stupid one.Back when “Our” ancestors came over, there was no Welfare State here.  They came over to work.  Not to get on welfare and drain the people of their tax dollars.  Back then, it didn’t cost to educate them. Medical costs weren’t out of reach, so they had to contribute to get what they wanted. Now, all they do is just sneak in, and apply for welfare and get it.  Now, a lot of people want to give them even more free stuff that a lot of Born Citizens can’t get.  It isn’t prejudice, racism and hate.  It’s economics.  That “opportunity” you mentioned was the ability to earn a place in society.  Nowadays, they just want it given to them.  Like those “occupiers” just want the opportunity to crap in the parks and panhandle food from the working people around them.  You f****eads who want to give everything away should pay double taxes do your a****oles can get the freebies they came over here for.

No other country will allow a flood of illegals to live in their country. The U S is now like other lands too crowded with people. WE CAN NOT SUPPORT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO COME HERE ILLEGALLY.
If I have to live by the laws of our country, then everyone else should too. WHY SHOULD YOU GET SPECIAL HELP AND TREATMENT IF YOU ARE NOT A CITIZEN?  Our land and times have changed. We must make laws to provide for our citizens and not those that are not.
I’m part Native American. The immigrants took America from the native people. Now you are getting some of what we went through. If we don’t stop illegal immigration, we will be over run AGAIN

We all know the economy is going to shit and soon chaos will rule, especially when you consider the hundreds of terrorists that have come through the mexican border. Hey ,  these are different times. Hence the term  ” Grandfathered in”. Today there are laws that pertain to this situation. There are channels you must go through to be a citizen. We aren’t saying you can’t be a citizen. All we are saying is go through the proper channel and obtain citizenship legally. Hence the term” Illegal alien”. Your way of thinking would give someone who has no respect for our laws, getting everything that a legal or legalized citizen has the right to. This, to me and anyone else with an ounce of common sense, says that you would put your family and the families of others safety in jeopardy all because you want to give some criminal, that otherwise would not be allowed in this country, a chance to live here. Think about that before  you shoot your mouth off in protest. By the way, The last poll that was taken said that 67% of the people in this country do not agree with the policies that the government is trying to cram down our throats when it comes to this topic. I think that makes you the minority. Have some kool-aid and hope that one of these criminals that you would allow in our country doesn’t hurt someone you know. Or better yet, if it does happen at least have the balls to admit you were wrong.

Unless you are Native American, your ancestors were also immigrants during which they likely busted right through the gate. Taking the position of “We Americans” sets the stage for We vs. The Aliens. Central Americans and Mexicans are also Americans, just not all of them are certified US citizens. Many were driven out of their ancestral lands due to economic conditions created by US meddling, deadly aggression with tremendous fire-power, and NAFTA.

Please do not count me in as one of your “We Americans.” I believe in governance that fosters an economy and culture that benefit all its citizens–as well as newcomers–rather than one that operates to enrich a few through the framework of a corporate-state. Unfortunately, we seem to be returning to a feudal society, where the uneducated peons choose to romanticize the founding of our nation while they are haplessly impoverished by the bankers, insurance companies and rogue corporations.

  • Neekygirl03

    i agree with you 100%!

everything you said may be true, but the issue at hand isn’t that illegals aren’t contributing to society its whether or not their status here in the USA is legit. stop sneaking in and after the fact asking for a fair shake. people even at a young age i learned that their are processes that we must take to get where we need to be.

  • Neekygirl03

    AMEN!

  • Jimlin46_a

If amnesty were afforded to all illegals, they would have to be paid according to laws.  That would mean that American Wages would raise prices on the things that the “illegals” do “under the table” for less than what citizens ask.  Raisins would become outrageously expensive.  You did it legally; why can’t they?  The taxes they pay are allocated to sales taxes.  None goes to schools.  What they pay in taxes doesn’t go to the assistance accounts they dig into.  My medical costs are outrageous because the local hospitals have to absorb the cost of caring for them.  Education costs more because the state has to pick up that cost, too.  Yes, they pay sales taxes, but that’s all.  Where does that money go?  I can’t even get my VA benefits because the govenment can’t afford it.  Why should it afford illegals. (yes,,,the VA is funded by tax dollars.  I served in the US army.  What did they serve in?)

Why should the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, chartered by the government and using public funds and airways be pushing biased programing intended to undermine the wishes of the majority of citizens to have a government that represents them well? We need public broadcasting that has journalistic integrity and the people running the current system don’t have that.

  • Pennypitstop

Mkkgrn.  This has nothing to do with a redneck mentality. I went to school, I work hard, I pay my taxes.  Taxes that are used to support the children of people who are here illegally.  My husband was out of work for 29 months and my children had to take sabbaticals from school because they were not eligible for assistance.  The DREAM act gives assistance to children of illegals.  This is bullshit and has to stop.  They are taxing all of our entitlement programs and there is going to be nothing left for the hardworking people who put into it.  I don’t know about your ancestors but mine came here LEGALLY.  They were not felons as you referred to them as.  This is ignorance on your part and if anyone is looking like a redneck it’s you.

  • Clark

The citizens need to contact  our government leaders and let them know how American’s feel. It’s time our government listened to OUR needs. There are a lot of businessmen getting rich on hiring the under the table illegal worker.  America belongs to it’s citizens. Our government needs to start working for American’s first. Because of the bad economy I had to use my saving to support my daughter while out of work. She couldn’t get any type of help. Yet all the illegals have no problem getting all the things for free almost. Free food in school, free shots, free medical care. Why are they better than our  CITIZENS?  The language of the U S is English. Why should we have to teach their kids in Spanish?
People wanting to move to the U S should have to study our laws, pledge allegiance to America, and learn to read and write English.

We are all descendents of immigrants except the American Indians: something we seem to forget.  Those who are against immigrants especially from Mexico are using them as scapegoats for our finnancial mess that was caused by greed, lack of regulations and inaction of Congress.

  • Hoghunterdiva

Living and working in Texas, I can tell you they have overrun the systems not paying in but taking out as with the Medical, welfare, and schools. There is also a lot of fraud within the social security system. As for jobs Americans won’t do, that is a load of crap with millions of Americans out of work. People who think that, don’t work in Agriculture and Construction in the field. They make cash under the table, sent 80% back home thru Western Union or MoneyGram, being they usually live in large groups together and split the bills. We need that tax base to solve many of our forced to pay systems to keep from sinking more quickly. Being in the construction business, I can tell you for a fact, we sit at home waiting for the phone to ring for the first time is 25 years, due to our competition being cheaper by working illegals so they don’t have to pay into the SS, Medi, Workmans Comp, unemployment and other insurances, and other enforced taxes for employers. It is not fair to us who are forced to abide by the laws and knock us out of work, or the IRS hunts you down and takes what you have legally. I want that work! BS we don’t want it, it was taken from us. At this time when we do get work, there is no profit. No employees either like there used to be becuase we can’t afford to pay them and half of their Soc Security, Medicare, unemployment, and now thanks to OBAMA care, health insurance too? I can’t pay for my own! Bare bones effecient while we wait for the next election, just trying to hold on.
NOw, let’s talk about the ZETA cartel that’s taken over south Texas and recruiting kids from schools to walk with thier drugs and guns. Ready for that conversation?

How about the costs of educating the children of illegal immigrants…how many ER’s have had to close because of uncollectable bills of illegal immigrants…they are eligible for food stamps…Medicaid…welfare…Aid to Dependent Children…student grants/aid…basically every form of public assistance that should be reserved for US Citizens.    PLUS…they won’t assimilate and become Americans.  They want to change our country into the slimepit they left.  I’m not only speaking of illegal entry on the Southern Border, although that is overwhelming.  What about the Russian immigrants in the Northwest….the illegal Irish immigrants in the NorthEast…the Chinese immigrants who overstay their visas…foreign students of all persuasions who come here to ‘study’ and never leave.

  • Milady2149

You’re nuts.  Coming to this country without permission to do so, is breaking our laws.  By doing so you are a criminal.  PERIOD!!! My grandparents came from Italy through Ellis Island LEGALLY.  They had to have a sponser and a job and be in good health.  They got no freebees. They commit fraud which is a federal crime.  By that I mean using others SS card etc.  They vote when they should not be because they have drivers lisence which they should not get.  They get welfare etc etc etc and shouldn’t.  You either must be a bleeding liberal, or an illegal yourself or have friends or family that is illegal or you would not say what you did. Not only are they criminals for coming here illegally, but they bring their drugs, gangs, commit murder etc etc. Not saying people here in this country do not do that, but we don’t need another countries problems on top of our own.  I think they need to put up electric fencing with signs and if they are stupid enough to touch it….oh well.

  • Witzbold

Too many people just bitch. Too many, if not most don’t offer a solution. Politicians don’t care. Obama has done more than most and most don’t know that illegal immigration is way down.
    1) We should increase the quota
    2) Those who have been in the country for longer than 5 years should get a way to become citizens if they speak some acceptable english. We should note that it is our own stupid fault if they can sneak into this country undetected. So, do not punish then unduly for our own stupidity.

I think it’s important to note that those opposed to illegal entry into the US are not opposed to immigration done legally. To use the word immigrant in referencing an illegal alien implies they came here in hopes of becoming a citizen of this great nation. This is not the case. When someone outside this nation makes the conscience decision to violate our laws by illegally crossing our border they are not an immigrant. They are illegals. You may not like to hear the truth but it is more than truth, it is the law. As a nation of laws those that go to great length to brake the laws are by definition outlaws and should be dealt with appropriately, by law.

You’ve got to be kidding right? Here’s some facts for you. The left is constantly falsifying things to justify the illegal alien take over to keep happening. If you need some links that show actual conferences held for major corps to teach them how to falsify them looking for legal citizens and turning them down going around their requirements I’ve got them. And if you think taking lower skilled jobs doesn’t hurt people at the top you’re crazy. Do the math there’s over 12 million illegal aliens in this country and there’s over 12 million legal unemployed citizens. See how that simple math works? The left trying to cover up facts doesn’t make the facts invisible, it only exposes them for the dishonest deceiving idiot snakes they are.

YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK:  Left leaning biased pro-illegal programming.  Arizona State University recently puked a poll on the local PBS station stating that 78% of Arizonans want AMNESTY.  Would even the most diseased liberal psychotic believe this of the people of Arizona?  The Walter Cronkite Socialist Communist School of Journalism at ASU was responsible for the poll, which only involved about 600 people.  Dr. Bruce Merrill, a deranged liberal retired fossil of the “school” appeared on the local PBS program “Horizon”, and spewed lie after lie trying to convince viewers that the people of Arizona had went off the deep end.  And worse, they released this poll one week after Arizona State Senate President Russell Pearce (author of Arizona SB 1070) lost his recall election at the hands of Mormon voters who had been directed to vote him out by the squat and pee Mormon church in Guest Worker City, Utah.

PBS needs to be defunded by Congress as soon as possible.  An amnesty for 30 million river jumpers would bankrupt America in one year or less.  Four words:  Federal Earned Income Credit!

  • George

Do you think a rapist should get amnesty if they’ve been raping over 5 years? How about a murderer, bank robber or thief? Should they get amnesty if they’ve been doing their strut over 5 years? If you answer and answer honestly, I suspect you’re gonna say no and that would only expose you as a hypocrite, you think? So why should anyone else who breaks our law be given amnesty? How about giving the tax payers amnesty when they decide to stop paying taxes end up supporting illegal aliens?

  • Anonymous

How about if you volunteer to keep 5 or 19 illegals in your spare room?  Your drunk from drinking Obamaaid, poured out by that champion of security and bull dyke extroidinairre Janet Napolitaco.  Illegal immigration is NOT “way down”,  drop houses are being popped weekly in and around Phoenix packed to the rafters with illegals.  Obamanez has directed the Border Patrol to “stand down” at the border and let river jumpers pass by; that lowers the number of apprehensions to dupe droolers like yourself.  “Our stupidy?”  God you’re warped.

  • mommy42

From some of the comments I read here… seems the problem is money and racism.  Would it be acceptable if an illegal acquired a Individual Tax ID# to pay their taxes and get in line to apply for residency? I agree that illegals should not receive financial aid of any kind unless they have been paying their taxes.  Obviously you’re not going to refuse emergency medical care, but you should hold them accountable for their medical bills.  When do you draw the line to stop promoting hatred against a race?  The solution is not to kick everyone out breaking up ‘good families’, it’s to pick the good ones to stay and have criminal background checks to get rid of people who are here to hurt others and not to better themselves.  I’m glad to say I have encountered many Hispanics who love the US and want to make it a better place for their children, grandchildren and yours!  Just my opinion :)

Please listen john, not all those who cross the southern border to get to the usa are only illegal immigrant, some came flying into our airports temporarily legal with visas,The scope of illegality transcend into all countries citizens in this country,we have Asians,South americans,Europeans&Africans,so listen some illegals came legally, but because of bad legal representation by his or her legal team showdy work at  the courts system they are now suffering this mistakes of their legal team. There are some mistakes which we’re done by some of  these illegals legal team which needed  to be investigated and some of the lawyers must be punished by causing this easy mistakes by robbing so many good law abiding people to gain legality in this beloved nation, look john.if u we’re robbed of becoming a legal immigrant,by a simple mistake of not doing your fingerprints to be taken to the immigraton judge.this mistake was not cause by the applicant, but by his or her immigration lawyer, some of these lawyers don’t care about their clients success they represent,b’cos they are fully paid upfront before they engage to represent them,so many of these immigration lawyers don’t have the zeal to represent them to achieve their legality.
Mr john, their are so many mistakes committed by so many illegal immigrant legal team which has resulted into failure of many immigants attaining their legal status.so their should be a healthy conversion to address this issue.

Anyone who thinks they are” Oppressed” in America can either go back to their homelands of origin, OR if they are Citizens, go to another country and renounce your citizenship. Unlike other countries, no one is forcing  them to stay, they are just asking you to come over legally and obey the laws. Stop trying to make America into the countries you just left, as it will never happen.

I know some may don’t want to hear this, but its best to just grant these illegal immigrants amnesty and let them continue working. They’re not exactly taking jobs away from anyone, if the employers are giving the jobs to them in the first place. The reality is, that farmers want and need these illegal immigrants for the cheap labor and they’re willing to do the work most American-born citizens don’t want to do and can’t afford to do. Illegals don’t have debts that most Americans have(ie: student loans, car notes, credit cards, mortgages, etc.) so taking a job picking produce for a little bit of money is basically a win-win situation for the illegal immigrants and the farmers who need the laborers.

  • Rob

I am a middle aged US born single white male born of US born white working class parents. I am college educated. When I was a young man, well before the current immigration issue took such prominence, I was involved in a routine traffic stop where I was asked for my driver’s license. I had inadvertently left my valid driver’s license at home, only discovering my oversight upon the officer’s request. Unable to produce my driver’s license, I was immediately placed under arrest. My parents were out of town, and I was unable to contact them. I spent the long holiday weekend in jail. Having already used my one telephone call to try to contact my parents, I was not permitted another telephone call. My parents returned home during my incarceration. They were frantic having no idea as to my whereabouts. On the following Monday, I was released on my own recognizance at the conclusion of my arraignment. I returned home to my frightened, tearful, but joyous family. A trial date had been set and my parents had obtained legal counsel on my behalf. I was ultimately convicted of the offense of not providing a driver’s license upon request of a law enforcement officer. I was sentenced to 45 days in the local corrections facility and served 30 days with a 15 day reduction in my sentence for good behavior. Neither my citizenship nor my ethnicity ever seemed to play a role in these events. My arrest more than 20 years ago for merely not presenting a driver’s license during a traffic stop has haunted me ever since. I am asked about my arrest record approximately every other time I enter or leave the country and during some job interview follow-ups subsequent to a background check. I have been denied employment as a result of this arrest, most recently for a position with the US Census Bureau in 2009/2010. I have explored the possibility of expungement of this record, but have been advised by several attorney’s that this would likely exacerbate my difficulty leaving a record of arrest, but without the benefit of the reason, leaving the reason up to the inquirer’s imagination.
I have sought help from a local Judge, a local newspaper, and a local television station, as well as a local Minister known to assist ex-convicts in seeking employment, all to no avail, declining to assist because I am not a minority nor a convicted felon.
Let me reiterate, I am a fully legal, US born, white male with no other criminal record, occasionally denied employment, and sometimes inconvenienced based on a conviction for failure to show identification more than 20 years ago.
I continue to find no one interested in my difficulty.

  • George

Excuse me… Are you suggesting that if illegals pay taxes that’s will open up jobs for legal citizens? Do you think that will put money in the pocket of legal citizens or stop the constant flow of money to countries like Mexico that’s crushing the value of our dollar? And just because people want to protect our country and our resources that makes them racist? I have been cheated because obviously I paid taxes to educate people like you and you can’t even look up the the words racism and hatred in a dictionary. According to you Mexico leads the way in racism if you’d bother to find out what their laws are regarding illegal aliens. Why do you go sneak into Mexico and see how that goes for you? Let us know how it feels behind bars and fighting the rat sitting next to you who’s decided he wants your lunch and a piece of you even more. You say we medical care wouldn’t be denied? Try telling that to cancer patients who’s dying because they can’t get any and I’m not talking about illegal aliens either. Why don’t you liberal lefty’s pony up your pay checks and pay for these illegal aliens so tax payers who’ve so far had no say in the matter and while you’re at it give your jobs to the illegals too, you know they need to pick those vegetables on your desk. Let me know what you think of them ideas, I’ll be waiting on more of your spew.

  • Juan

There are lots of people wanting to come to the country legally why should we give preferential treatment to those that broke the law? If someone cut in line would you reward them. How does it make sense to reward those that can sneak thier kids into the country with the benefits of a citizen. I like immigration I’m all for people coming to this country, but I think it has to be legal.

Not all immigrants are Latinos. Law must be obeyed. All immigrants should get legal status by the Law. The Law makers may ease the problem by an intermediary step, since America needs some workers, and the workers needs to earn here, Law makers can provide Temporary permits for those Alients who have emplowers applying for them to work in his employ. Those who do not have employer to apply for them will have to go home. Children under 18 will follow their parents. When they become 18, those who were born in this country can return to the US for study or work.

Watch them all go home on their own.  Oh, no  U.S. citiznehip for children born of illegals.  Send Mexico and other nations a bill for all their illegals education and medical services.  Make it a law for hospials to check all legal status of people and if ilegals and no insurance to pay their bill, ask their country if they will pay and if not send them packing.
NO medical cards for pregnant women or free delivery, transport them home if their family does not come up with the money or be willing to sign away their property just like legals have to do.

Those in politics who want votes from legal Americans will get rid of the illegals and hopefully start doing something before 2012 to showthe American people they mean business.  I will not vote for anyone who grants illegals anything.  They are law breakers and I do not feel sorryfor th children that came here with the parents as this was their parents choice just as it is the choice of our Military to leave their children for years to serve our country and they are separated from all their family and don’t hear any of them prostesting and complaining like the Latinos.

  • Daniel Woodard

We also need a uniform proof of US citizenship, i.e. require all US citizens to carry a social security card with biometric verification. We actually already require this of international visitors but not of our own citizens, and as a result even E-verify is limited in effectiveness. If we are not willing to prove our citizenship (and not just those who are drivers) we cannot ensure jobs are not illegally provided to noncitizens.

  • Daniel Woodard

it is the Republican employers who want the illegal workers here.

I would think you would be THE person to work on making sure everyone (those in HB070) to have show a drives license and citizenship papers also.  If you had to go through this as a legal citizen then why shoudn’t the law be able to question anyone about their legal status .  If guess if you had been brown skinned and no license you would have been told to go on your way.  It seems we the legals have rights but the ILLEGALS do.

    1. They broke the law by coming across our border illegally…
    2. They stole someones Identification to get a job…
    3. They steal to feed themselves, and so on….

Now I understand that breaking into our country is a class 4 felony so lets let everyone out of jail that has committed a class 4 felony…. let them be with their families..

Lets stop throwing criminals in jail, it breaks up family’s, could leave American children without parents.

Lets stop throwing folks in jail that rob banks and stores for cash, after all they are just trying to feed there family’s.

Not lets stop using race as “racial profiling”  Mexico is the biggest violator of US Law when it comes to illegal immigration, we cant help that Mexicans don’t have white, yellow, black, skin or…. I am of Irish and Scottish decent, both my grandparents came to this country LEGALLY!!!!

MY IRISH GRANDMA WAS WELCOMED TO NEW YORK WITH HELP WANTED SIGNS EVERYWHERE THAT SAID ” IRISH NEED NOT APPLY! “

I’m willing to spend a USD$trillion  to deport all illegals, but first I’ll offer them a year to leave on their own. In that year I want to give every US citizen, native born or naturalized a year to choose to live in the country of their choice and apply for nationality in that nation, or choose to live in the USA, swear allegiance to the USA, and live as a US Citizen, and learn US history and practice American customs, traditions. For example see Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

I argue that many of the comments posted are based on emotions. Unfortunately, emotive solutions are not the answer. Deporting illegal immigrants? Sure, it can be and is done. But clearly this isn’t working, else there wouldn’t be 11+ million illegal immigrants in the US today  (surely deportation isn’t a new tactic employed by the US government). Slapping a hefty fine or give hefty sentences to those employing illegal immigrants? Okay, sure, but guess what? It is the cheap labor provided by the illegal immigants that keep the prices of certain food items relatively low. Will consumers be willing to pay more for certain products in exchange for keeping illegal immigrants out? Something tells me most won’t. Mind you, I’m NOT in favor of illegal immigration. All I’m saying is that solving the problem will take far more than throwing illegal aliens in jail, barring them from entering the country, or punishing those who over them employment

“Mind you, I’m NOT in favor of illegal immigration”

    Yeah right!

I recounted my experience because the characterization has been that an unlicensed driver would be merely released without consequence or given a ticket at the most if not for issues of immigration. While laws vary greatly from state to state and even within states, I find it unlikely that an actual unlicensed and/or uninsured driver regardless of race or citizenship would be treated so leniently, nor would I support such leniency. Wouldn’t liability on behalf of the officer and law enforcement organization be an issue if, for example, the released proceeded on and were involved in a traffic accident while unlicensed/uninsured?  I recognize the occurrence of anecdotal and isolated incidents of leniency, but have traffic laws gotten less tough, or is that what is being advocated, and if so, is this for all?

How can you say that, you don’t know them…. work was scarce in Scotland, similar to Mexico and there was a dim future for my grandfather, as for my grandma, from Ireland there was terrible violence (real wars) ripping through Ireland (more so than the cartels in Mexico today) they where brutally killing each other in the name of religion, had she stayed she would have undoubtedly been dead, it was so dangerous there that her parents sent her to the USA alone at the age of 16, she could not find work and became a servant in exchange for room and board until NY business could not discriminate and she got a cash paying job and later met who would become my grandfather, it was a ruff life back then, at least the Mexicans from the start where/are able to earn money (even though there here illegally). My mother is only in her late 50′s and she is the first natural born citizen in our family… but the main point is…… when my grandparents came here they did what they had to do to become a part of this country the LEGAL way, no it was not easy, and it was more complicated back then too I agree that YES they should make it easier and quicker.

My experience..  I was pulled over for speeding, I was told that I was going to be placed under arrest and detained in Scottsdale AZ because I could not prove who I was, however I was able to give the police my drivers license number since we had the option to use our Social Security number as our drivers license number and the MVD system retains everyone’s photo along with our driver license info and was able to be displayed in the police cars computer… oh did I not mention I am white, I only say this to make the point understood that Arizona doesn’t care what color your skin is despite what the world has been told by the media.

The poll is currently  at 64%  for detention and deportation.  This
seems to be in line with all of the polls I have seen in the past
showing 80+% of CITIZENS wanting Stronger immigration laws, no path to
    citizenhip and no DREAM ACT.

The real question is, do the majority of CITIZENS count for anything anymore, or is it all politics?

It seems that traffic stops are being used as a red herring in the immigration context. A person, regardless of citizenship, knowingly allowed to drive without driving privileges/trace-ability/insurance would unjustly shift the burden to the would-be victim and his insurance company in the event of a traffic accident for compensation/justice. It is and has been de rigueur for law enforcement officers to cite drivers for other infringements of law i.e. contraband, firearms, child safety, etc. unrelated to the original traffic stop, so what is the rationale behind the exclusion of citizenship?
This, of course, in no way addresses the issue of being in a country without following the established protocols for doing so legally as put forth by codified law.
    This is the immigration issue.
To include the methodology involved is the red herring. As an example, how would the fundamentals of a traffic stop scenario be altered if, instead of legal status as the legal violation, another alleged violation of law was found?
To take the example as portrayed in the latest episode of Need To Know…
A lone male driver is stopped at a driver’s license checkpoint.
The driver is unable to produce a valid driver’s license when asked.
The driver is arrested for the violation of driving without a license, but instead of a background check determining that the driver has entered the country without following the established protocols for doing so legally as put forth by codified law, the driver is found to be in possession of contraband, let’s say counterfeit designer purses.
The driver is gainfully employed as a farm laborer.
The driver has 2 young girls at home, but the driver has left his cell phone in the truck which has been impounded and he can’t remember the telephone number to call them.
He is jailed awaiting arraignment, meanwhile relatives begin caring for his children.
As the accused driver wends his way through our legal system he is denied being released on his own recognizance at the discretion of the Judge and he doesn’t qualify for bail lacking sufficient local ties/finances.
So far, both scenarios are identical except for the alleged offense of an immigration violation in the case of the Need To Know segment and illegal contraband in the form of counterfeit designer purses in my story.
    How are these stories different?
The accused in both cases may or may not face further penalties, but we don’t know what if any these may be.

Illegal Immigration is a CRIME that hurts ALL Americans and Legal Immigrants. Obama is only using these criminals for votes. Plus Obama has TWO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT relatives. Last Month he told DHS to begin releasing 300,000 Illegals that have already been captured because Obama PROMISED La raza that he would try to pass Amnesty for 12-20 MILLION ILLEGALS who could then bring in 30-45 MILLION of their Job stealing, Welfare seeking TAX paid benefit thieves !

On the other hand, I am and always have been against random traffic stops that require the driver to prove anything, be it sobriety, citizenship, licensing or anything else, believing these to be a clear violation of our fourth amendment tantamount to random door-to-door searches of our homes. I take this position thankfully never having been the victim of such a stop.

  • Michaelstorrusten

Still the USA…last time I checked… needed to be a registered voter at 18 to serve in the military and vote. That registers your social security number to pay taxes and work here legally… good way to check your loyalty to a country that gives you so many freedoms, no matter how hard you work and how little you pay in taxes, you still are here to be in a better place than any other, to include European countries that don’t want you anyway and will send you away for less in less time and concern…

Good idea, now how do you prove you’ve been here 5 years? I’ve got an idea, maybe people could register themselves at the border when they cross so we would know how long they are here……WAIT we do that already. That is the legal way. How about they go back and register now. Anybody agree with this idea, let them go back and register then wait for legal status then walla “amnesty”.

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished.  If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property.  (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)

Jesus said, ” that which you do to the least of my brothers, you do also unto me “. White men only survived in this country when they got here because the Indians showed them how to survive, kept them from starving. They repaid the  “AMERICAN INDIANS” BY TAKING THEIR LAND AND MURDERING THEM. None of you are native Americans unless you are a native AMERICAN INDIAN. I would rather have someone who wants to work than someone who wants to ride on my shirt tail and continue to destroy the economy. If the law was just as the Indian would say, ” you would all have to leave this country and go home “

Need To Know didn’t give balanced reporting on this subject. A few minutes of air time for the senator that sponsored the Alabama law and a complete segment for an illegal immigrant supporter who continues to call the immigration system broken when in fact it is not. It just needs enforcement.

The illegal entries need to be stopped-what don’t people understand about the words illegal and law?
Apply and come in the legal way. I do not blame the states that have made law changes to protect the public since the gov’t has failed to stop entry. Many who defend state that they work hard and thrive and do not become a burden to the U.S..
This is incorrect -they enter schools and receive free medical care and do not pay taxes-they are a drain on the system and we are already in financial trouble as a country. They have never served this country militarily and yet receive many benefits by being here.
It is said they work jobs that many americans would not do-but I am sure those jobs could be filled by many of the 9% of americans out of work now.
It is time to stop the political manuvering to gain the hispanic and latino vote and do what is right.
We need someone with backbone to step up and enforce the laws and change others that contain loopholes which are used to obtain residency.

I strongly believe that enforcement of our laws is all we need to curb illlegal immigration. Illegal immigrations will definitely deport themselves if our laws are strictly enforced. No jobs, no benefits, no politicians pandering to illegal immigrants. Secure the borders with our military, stop anchor babies citizenship, demand E-Verify for all employers, Alabama has a percentage of jobs that illegal aliens left already filled with citizens who applied for the jobs, as you can see enforcement of our laws does work. Illegal immigrants flock to States with no enforcement doesn’t that say it all?  Sanctuary cities and States are the ones that are bankrupt, why is it so hard for our politicians to see that? I will answer the question myself…..because politicians are corrupt and they expect the illegal alien vote in order to stay in office and of course if they make this about race instead of about the rule of law then they can stay in office and steal more of our tax dollars……remember our politicians are in the money they can take extravagant vacations on the tax dollars that we the citizens are forced to give them, they will use the illegal aliens for their own benefit. Hispanic or not its not about race its about the law. Send them home and period with their anchor babies.

I am a former Border Patrol Agent who worked during the last “amnesty cycle.”  I won’t bring up the “surge” once it was announced,  I won’t bring up the false documents,  the false cards, the Catholic Services lawsuit, etc.  What I will point out though, is those immigrants who received cards stopped working the fields and became “indoor” workers as anyone would.  The cycle of not enough “field” workers again became the cry of the agriculture industry and mega – farms.  The current “H” program?  Talk to the many farmers who jumped through all the hoops to get into the program only to have the workers “vanish” into the night.

The USA is not able to accept the billions people in the planet that would be willing to come here illegally if given the chance.  It simply is not mathematically possible!

And there is no such thing as a job that Americans don’t want to do.  If any job pays enough, there will be lines of legal Americans willing to do it, especially in this economy.  Even I would be willing to pick crops for a million dollars a year!If one believes in capitalism, then let the free-market set the price for supply and demand.  But if there is a constant supply of illegal workers, willing to suppress wages, then the free-market does not work.As a skilled engineer with global experience, I had to go through a long and trying process to come here legally, and my employer had to pay many thousands of dollars to immigration lawyers.  So I personally get very upset when I see all of those people that have sneaked across illegally.

I believe an acceptable compromise would be to change the 14th Amendment (remember, ratified in 1968, this was not something the founding fathers wrote) to require at least one parent to be a U,.S. citizen to allow the born child to be a citizen, and if it is the father then a DNA test would be required. Naturally if the mother is a U.S. citizen the witnesses at birth will be able to swear witness to the fact that she gave birth. Also we leave previously so called anchor babies with their citizenship and those without American citizenship illegal immigrants be required to leave. These people knew the risks when they entered the country illegally.  The time has come to pay the piper. I am sure they wanted a better life for their children-they got it. The price for that is to go home. Give them a year and then if caught in American illegally they will be banned forever.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Moody/100002055669726 Bob Moody

It is against the law to profit from prisoner labor. For instance in the south most notably Georgia recently, farmers are complaining that they can’t use illegal immigrants for farm labor because of new laws there.  In effect, they are using prison labor except that those illegal immigrants were not prosecuted before they were put to work at the very same work that prison laborers perform.  Illegal immigrants however work up to 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The prisoners work no more than 8 hours a day 5 days week and get food, clothing and housing which the illegal immigrants do not.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Moody/100002055669726 Bob Moody

It wouldn’t be fair to deport the “anchor babies,” but it is fair to deport anyone who is here illegally.  So let’s draw the line there.  Give the people who are here illegally a year to leave. That is not an amnesty for a year. If they are caught here in that year as illegals they will be deported and not allowed back for 7 years. As perviously suggested that if they are caught here after the year they are banned forever.

Now for the Amendment: Change it. This Amendment was ratified in 1968. This was not something the founding fathers could have anticipated.  It is creating a problem so we need to fix that. It is not like we have never fixed an amendemnt before (18,21).

Illegals bring in more than them selves to the U S.  They bring in illness that we had stopped from hurting our people. I can’t understand Why I have to obey our laws if Illegals don’t.   It is discrimination against our law abiding citizens. Being illegal in  our country is not just one race. People all over the world want to take advantage about the law, that you are a citizen if you are born here.  Then when they get a few family members living here, they can send for all the rest of their family. The WORLD HAS CHANGED. WE CAN NOT SUPPORT ALL THOSE WHO WOULD COME HERE. WE DON”T HAVE ENOUGH FOR OUR OWN PEOPLE.    It’s time our laws are made to protect our citizens first. Slowly you let businessmen close manufacturing in America in favor of cheap labor. Now they are not trying to stop illegal immigration because it is more cheap labor.  Will we wind up like France, a revolution against all the rich people while others have very little?  We should be able to vote on how we need our country to be.   The people who are not citizens and  should not have the right to VOTE.  I would like to know how our elected officials got the right say what America needs, if that is not what the people want.  We have TOO MANY RICH getting what they want. Taxes, rights should be the same for all citizens.

  • Diskc

“Need to Know” programs often fail to distinguish U.S. citizens’ opinions of illegal immigration and legal immigration.  Most citizens realize the value that legal immigrants add to our country’s citizenry, but they are against illegal immigration for a variety of reasons –  illegal, unfair, employment competition, wage reduction, “slave” labor, etc.  The present U.S. immigration system should be reformed to accelerate the admission process, identify the most qualified applicants and determine how many additional people can be absorbed in our population.  The U.S. is the only industrialized country that doesn’t use education and skill, rather than family ties, as the primary criteria in selecting applicants for admission.  If our country is going to compete in this global economy, a reformed immigration policy needs to prioritize admission by selecting the most creative, well educated and talented applicants.

The “Need to Know” program about Alabama’s illegal immigrant law was biased in favor of the illegal immigrant who “only wanted to make a better life for his family” in the U.S.  If the program is going to discuss illegal immigration and the plight of illegal immigrants, please present a better balanced picture of how illegal immigration effects the U.S. economy, the legal immigration system and our entire citizenry.

The rant as the conclusion of the program seemed designed to create negative attitudes about the largest minority population in the U.S.

All illegals need to be returned to to the country of origin. If it breaks up their family because they had a child here, to bad. They made that decision when they came acroos the border illegally. They have no rights to protection of the constitution. The laws of this land are here to protect citizens of the USA, not illegalls, who are not immigrants. Immigrants are people who are here legally.

Our admission process has brought us millions of good, law abiding immigrants for many years. The people who ignore the process and enter illegally show that they are not worthy of being in our country. People who don’t respect our laws and borders don’t respect our country and people. Those people don’t deserve to live among us.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

Our laws were made to protect our citizens first. The problem is that the greedy business people that want cheap labor and the desperate politicians and churches that want more voters and church members have made sure that those laws are ignored and even fought. All we have to do is enforce ALL of the laws that have been in the books for years WITHOUT APOLOGY! The people who have come here illegally new they were breaking our laws and new the potential consequences. Now it’s time for them to pay those consequences. I’m an American of Mexican descent (2nd generation) and I am disgusted with the way that Americans are allowing these people to duck our laws! America is a Republic and therefore is governed by the Rule of Law. If we don’t stick to our laws and enforce them on those who break them our laws become a joke! We have seen what happens everytime we have allowed, through one type of agreement/amnesty or another, people to come here illegally. Each time it has sent a clear message to others that if they manage to get into our country, start and grow a family to burrow in with, join a church and lay low long enough the stupid Americans will once again reward them with permanent residence… and then we end up with millions more illegals than we started with!!! NO THANKS!

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

You’d better require a DNA test for the ones who don’t have their child where we can record the birth because there will be those who will try to pass off a child as theirs to stay. These people are very good at getting fake or stolen documentation.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

That’s why I have lost all interest in PBS.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

Here in Arizona those farmers along the border were required to put their money into building housing for the workers only to have them not use it because they chose to go back home at the end of the day… or to the cities.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

BINGO! You can see what needs to be done and so can I. Why can’t our leaders see it and do it? Oh wait, our leaders do see it… but they simply don’t want to do it because they’re afraid of losing votes. They want to keep the people who work their puppet strings happy.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

Unless there were immigration laws in place when your forefathers came here they were not illegal. Laws have to be established before they can be broken.
The sad truth is that if the Native Americans had established immigration laws AND ENFORCED THEM they could have kept their land. Instead, some of them actually helped the pilgrims survive… and look where that got them. We must learn from their mistakes and keep our land.

  • Slfjdl

They’re probably blocking it if it’s anti-illegal alien. PBS should be charged with treason for producing these garbage sob stories with tax dollars. No more donations to those communists.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

Not only do they cost us for their education but here in Arizona they are teaching La Raza studies which teach them that Europeans stole their land and oppress them. Here we have groups telling our teachers that they must teach Latino children that this was their land and that it was stolen from them. Those same groups want them to be taught in spanish, have shorter school days so that they can be home to care for their family members and they expect us to foot the bill. This is what happens when you allow people who have no respect for our country or laws to live with us.

  • Theragman_158

You know, there was a law in Nazi Germany that it was illegal
to be a Jewish. Let’s go hunt the illegals, let’s make them wear a Mexican flag
on their arm so we can know where they are and because all illegals are from
Mexico. We should concentrate them in giant’s tents down south. Hurray! For
    Democracy and Freedom for All!

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

God gave us Ten Commandments and illegal aliens break most of them when they enter our country illegally and work and live here. I’m pretty sure that the Ten Commandments over rule what “Jesus said”. If you insist on going that route then there are also quotes about obeying the laws of the land ;o)
The Native Americans didn’t establish immigration laws and enforce them. Instead, some chose to help the invaders survive and as you said, “They repaid the  “AMERICAN INDIANS” BY TAKING THEIR LAND AND MURDERING THEM.” Now we are facing the same kind of fate because of greedy government, desperate politicians and churches and bleedingheart liberal attitudes like the one you’ve expressed.
FYI… the people you are defending ARE the people who want to ride your shirt tail. They are sucking off of our government which means they are sucking off of the taxpayers, Who do you think is paying for their education, medical care and incarceration. And don’t even get me started on all of the lives of American citizens that have been lost at the hands of illegal aliens,
I think we’ve paid more than enough for having them here. Time to make them pay for being here.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

FYI… we have plenty of illegals with fake/stolen documentation. Those people can get into our military and vote too. I have asked several of the ‘DREAMers’ who want to serve in our military to gain citizenship what they would do if we went to war with Mexico. I asked them, “Would you be able to shoot at people who could be your relative?” The only response I have ever gotten is, “We’ll never go to war with Mexico.” That tells me all I need to know about where their loyalty lies. I don’t want those traitors in our military.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

We will only count when we are willing to make ourselves heard. We can no longer just sit by and complain. We have to be willing to get involved and fight for our country.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

You’re falling for the rhetoric. If we enforce all of our immigration laws and punish the people who employ them or give them ANY kind of aid to remain in ALL 50 STATES here they will self deport their parasitic butts back to where they came from.
We have 11+ million illegal ALIENS (I won’t insult the people who come here legally by calling those who don’t ‘immigrants.) because of the several amnesties we’ve given them in the past. Everytime you reward them for breaking our laws it sends a clear message to others that if they break our laws, sooner or later we will reward them too. So they just keep on coming.
Solving the problem is as easy as ENFORCING OUR LAWS!

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

Nope, just end birthright citizenship and ship the anchor babies home with their parents. They have dual citizenship so that shouldn’t be a problem.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

Ever hear of the potato famine????

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

Your grandparents are a perfect example of the kind of people who made our country strong and great. They were true immigrants… not illegal alien invaders. They respected our laws and abided by them and put up with hate and prejudice while earning their place here and it paid off. Hispanics/Latinos act like they’re so mistreated and have it so bad but they have no idea what others, WHO CAME HERE LEGALLY and respected our country and people, went through to become a part of our culture. The problem is, most of the people who are coming here illegally have no desire to become a part of our culture.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

But people in their own countries shouldn’t be carrying passports. We need to have American ID’s.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

    *yawn*

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

It wasn’t fair for them to use our system by coming here and having those anchor babies. Now they can take those anchor babies home with them. It wouldn’t be ‘fair’ to break up their happy little families.

  • http://twitter.com/xAmericanPridex Brandy Baron

‘Profiting from cheap illegal Mexican labor’ is Mexico’s forte. Mexico makes a fortune off of the backs of the people they have sent here and has saved a fortune in caring for them. Get a clue!

  • Tmbwrs

You’re right. Why not leave your door unlocked at all hours. Leave your keys in your car outside too. Because other people from other countries deserve to use your shit without any repercussions, right? Or is it different when you look at it from the perspective of your stuff instead of everyone else’s stuff?

  • Aryan Spring

If it were only that easy. That makes too much sense and it isn’t politically correct and might hurt the illegal aliens feeeeelings.

  • Theragman_158

Ok, you are right in a couple of points. For the argument
of illegal is illegal we could say that just because is legal or illegal doesn’t
make it right. E.g. in Nazi Germany and in our past US history have had legal
laws that weren’t right. Are you saying because it is unfair to the immigrants that
are doing it the legal way? Is it unfair for the illegal’s that are here
illegally to become legal because they are cutting in line. I think we should
look what is more unfair and our losses and gains. Is it more unfair to cut in
line or is it more unfair to break a family apart. Do we gain or lose more in
sending, I don’t know, two million people back to their part of the world. Anything
that has to do with immigration legal or illegal in laissez faire economy is
good for the economy. Immigration creates competition thus making capitalism
work. I have no arguments against the acceleration of qualified individuals to
immigrate to this part of the world. The DREAM Act. Would help our economy and
create new talented people. I think you got your facts incorrect on the only
industrialized country that doesn’t require education and/or skill as primary criteria
in immigration forms. Yes if the country should compete with in a global
economy we shouldn’t be deporting people who are pursuing an education.
We should open the doors to scientist and innovators from all parts of life. Anti
immigration laws won’t help in doing that.

  • Theragman_158

by you saying that illegal’s bring illness from hurting
our people I can know you discriminate by skin color.

  • Theragman_158

Dont worry i’ll donate double for us!!

  • Theragman_158

The free market would work better with suppress wages. Slavery
would work even better. The savings that the corporation gets from suppress
wages would be conceder a gain and a gain in the private sector is good for
    capitalism.

  • Theragman_158

Mr. Aryan you seem like a Nazi fellow. I don’t think you understand
    sarcasm.

  • Clark

Who cares about their feelings. Do they care how we feel? If we  went to their country the same way they came here, we would all be in jail and never would get out. Their own people in their countries don’t care about them. Their own government is corrupt. It’s sad to see the world in such a shape. But another country can’t be held responsible for their problems. The people in each country has to work toward changing their own land. When there is a major population explosion, then lots of people are lost to sickness and starvation. It is the natural process of the world. Lots of civilizations have crashed.

  • Theragman_158

Yes we should kick out scumbags and if it were legal to
deport scumbags that are citizens we should deport them too. But when we deport
people we deport talented people and people that are contributing to society.

  • Theragman_158

garry, if there was a law that said black people could
own white slave and it was a legal law. Would that law be correct or incorrect?
Just because something is illegal doesn’t make it illegal-doesn’t make
incorrect. How come you guys don’t understand that not everything is black or
    white.

  • Theragman_158

Baron, i think your scare of foreigners taking over this land.

  • Theragman_158

Lori, if I made a law that said to deport people who are
left-handed and it the law got pass. Would it be an understandable law? If by
any chance you were affected by that law, wouldn’t it be fare or unfair? Remember
it’s the law, it became legal. Ok know with your answer change left-handed with
illegal. Economist support immigration, legal or illegal.

  • Theragman_158

you should meet an american indigene. you guys would have an interesting conversation.

    ???????????????????????????

Your comment makes no sense whatsoever.  My guess is you sharpen pencils for the Chamber of Commerce or it’s your bitchy time of the month.  Looking at this thread, my money is on the latter.

  • Theragman_158

What omission process are you talking about? 1700-1800 destroy
the natives. 1800-1900 let anybody from Europe inn. Baron, I think that you prefer
White Anglo Saxon to live among you. You’re confusing enforcing our laws with
suppressing people. And that’s not what I was thought America stand for.

  • Theragman_158

Baron, you seem that you are rallying the troops to the
wrong direction. I’m sure they were immigration laws back then and it still
stands today. “If you can go were ever you want to go, then go.” Nothing can stop
us from going to Europe or Asia. The sad true is if we weren’t so greedy we wouldn’t
have done to the natives what we did. If we weren’t so greedy people wouldn’t immigrate
to this part of the world.

  • Theragman_158

    Cummunist? wow!

  • Pkty@hotmail.com

These are good people who come here to work. They are our neighbors. It is the moral and right thing to do to treat them as we would want to be treated ourselves.

  • Ananan

Dear American citizen, U do not even know how to write correctly. I also doubt you can speak better than you write. The ONLY AMERICANS in this country are the native Americans, not people who descend from immigrants. If America would have been build with illiterate uneducated people, it wouldn’t have reached the point where its citizens would be proud they are Americans. The fact that you chose to be uneducated and most likely illiterate and you cant handle competition, its called “PROTECTIONISM”. And dont worry, if you really want to work as a delivery man or baby sitter, you can. YOU JUST DONT WANT TO WORK. I actually wish all the immigrants, including myself, would stop working for a week, so you get a real image of where you would be without them. And im talking abt people who do shitty jobs…not even touching the subject of doctors, artists, etc. Let’s not be idiots.

  • Ciaociaotoyou

Excuse me but aren’t you an immigrant too? try to look back on your ancestry HELLOOOOOOO. the only real Americans are the native people the most prosecuted people on earth. don’t be mean, people that are considered illegal are just people who contribute to this society have families and do honest work. i am one of them even though i am legal. i work i raise a family and mind my business. i am ok to prosecute illegal and legal people but send to the another planet since they are not welcome in any country. but don’t mix everybody and everyone, should be given a solution to this problem but with globalization people are free to live wherever they want.

  • Anonymous

What is so sad as well as detestable about much of the “illegal Immigration” talk – not discussion – here in USA, is focus solely and in a derogatory manner on those of supposedly Latino appearance.

As soon as any effort is placed on possible illegal immigration from Europe and certain parts of Asia, there will be an uproar and every effort to dilute those illegal immigration efforts.

I agree that it is fundamentally unfair for illegals to get jobs that American can and are willing to do – for same salaries, but that is the most outrageous, stupid  and ignorant point of “reality” ever put forth.

Credible studies have shown that large farming organizations in many Southern states has been totally unsuccessful in getting American workers, even at higher pay cheques.

It s a matter of record, done by two national Universities that a large number of Caucasian Americans not only fear, but actually despise those not of their race – even fellow Americans. How can the country solve problems with long stand negative attitudes like that?

  • luis alban

I don’t think that an amnesty is a real solution, but eventually it is going to happen. I think a real solution to the immigration problem will be a better immigration policy. In the moment we have better conditions to attract the correct kind of people (workforce, professionals, and so on) and make the process reliable and secure than crossing the boarder, feeding a criminal mafia of “coyotes”, or using a tourist visa to stay in the USA illegally then we will have won. We, as American Citizens, have to be open to “legal and controlled immigration” that’s the way how this country is and will be a great and better country to live in.

  • Clark

I’m sorry I disagree about them being good neighbors. Yes, some folks are good people but then there is a part of them that distrust and hate folks not of their race. They talk  about you in their language thinking you can’t hear what you are saying. Sorry, I speak Spanish too. I can hear what they call Americans. It is not so nice. Some races of people seem to think they are better than others. A Mexican boy tried to steal my mom when she was a kid. They seem to think the can own people.  Slavery is still a part of what goes on in Latin countries. Many of them are still crude and cruel people.

  • Osricthepoet

I don’t know why theres an issue with the illegal getting caught without a drivers licence, no registration or insurance.  The liberal do gooders would be the first to complain and demand to know why he was here illegally, if he crashed into their car, putting them out of work.  Another point; Government should make an amendment to the 14th amendment, in the case of children being born here are not automatically citizens and have duality.  We should follow the British.  A child born in Britain to a non resident is a citizen of the father.  ie: born in UK to an Nigerian father.. your Nigerian. Born in the USA to a father not a US citizen.. then your a citizen of your fathers homeland be it Latino, European, Asian, African.. sounds good to me.

If these people want to live and work in the USA, then like my Husband they should get in line and pay the dues, jump through the hoops and run around in circles.  Not sneak through the night and steal my social security, increase my healthcare benefits.. GO HOME and fix your own country if its broken, don’t stay here and break mine.  Yes, you have the right to feel, you have the right to access these United States, and ‘get a share’, but undocumented, you dont.. your a thief.  Yes, a thief.. In this economy I cant afford the increase in taxes that get levied to pay for you being here.

  • A law abiding citizen

if you keep giving amnesty to illegals that is a reward for doing wrong.  Let them apply and wait for their turn.  What about all those who have applied and are still waiting? They are turning grey while waiting and the illegals get amnesty. Is this the law of the land now?

  • Clark

HUM!!  Did you mean built? and can’t?  Did you know they run illegal businesses here too. Like Doctors that do not have the license to be a doctor in our country. They claim false medical aid too. They steal you insurance info and file claims against you. They use other people’s  Social Security Numbers too. My family has had that happen. They learn how to work our systems for their good. It’s still stealing. America has always had proud people. The Native People did just fine for 15,000 years in my area. The new comers who took their lands thought they were  no good, stupid, useless people. I’m sorry there is still a good many of the Real American’s living today.  Hau  Kola Was`te  Kiowa.  I’m Choctaw, Cherokee and Comanche. We would have been a lot better off if you had never invaded our land.

  • Mrfolkes

such a pity the didnt deport your fore parents after SLAVERY was abolished in the land of the home and the BRAVE…your fore parents must be turning in their GRAVE seeing they were not born here(were they considerd illegal aliens)?…. just wanting to know… they afforeded you the priviliage US citizenship give thanks….In the eyes of all native americians your parents or grand parent, which ever  are also an ANCHOR baby, which everyone was born by your SLAVE BOAT foreparents….(Just Giving u a reality check0)

  • Mrfolkes

YOU ARE PROUD YOUR PARENTS ARE “ILLEGALLY IMMIGRANTS”….YET YOUR POST SAID SOMETHING ELSE…”YOU SOUND CONFUSED”

  • Adventuroustonight

You may be legal but you still have not learned English spelling and grammar.  I just love the foreigners stating we are all immigrants you are correct but our ancestors came here legally through Ellis Island that is they immigrated here “LEGALLY” Your comment people that are considered illegal are here just to contribute to society ? your joking right, ok maybe 1% the rest are here for a free ride to tax our system and trash this county just as they trashed their own county. I have lived and traveled through many places in the United States and the reality is the biggest shat holes are occupied by from what I can see illegals. sitten on the front stoop, wearing a wife beater t,  with a beer in hand yelling at the wife with the 12 kids running around the trashed yard with the beat up cars and bars on the windows. I ‘ve driven through these hoods they are what u see south of the border . Americans have spoken just look at the results of the poll. To bad our Government will not take note and do what the people of Amarica want.

  • Clark

Why do you think Native people are Illiterate and Uneducated? By what standards do you think we didn’t have all we needed for our lives. Book learning and all these high teck items don’t  make one race of people better than another. A simple way of life is a lot better than this RAT RACE.Having common since is better than only being book smart. We people who have been here have the right to defend what we believe in. If we allow illegals to destroy our lands, what will be left for our kids to enjoy. I’ll stand up and voice my thoughts as long as I live. Too many things are being allowed to go on in America, that I am ashamed of.  Even families values are disappearing. It would be nice if they would stop work and move away, then my home would not be so crowded. What competition? I can work just fine. As a woman, I worked building cars for 30 years. Before that, my family was homesteaders in the area.  Before that, we lived here first before you invaded our lands. Proud to be one of the TRUE AMERICANS.

  • unemployedamerican

so your an immigrant like all of us ? or are you Illegal ? the debate is over Illegal Aliens not Legal immigrants, just in case you were not sure. I dont think anyone here has a problem with legal immigrants working here and contributing to the country. Im an immigrant my grandparents migrated here LEGALLY.  So your argument /debate is not really addressing the issue.

  • Clark

The people that are citizens of the U S and their folks before them have fought very hard to make America a Free country where we all have the same rights mostly. Many people have died to fight for our freedom. If you think we are going to stop fighting for what we believe in, the you will be waiting for a very long time. Those illegals don’t live by our values because their lands don’t have equal justice and freedoms for all. We must require people to live by the laws of America. People need to apply to come to America to live. If they don’t want to, does that mean they could care less about our laws, our rights? We don’t need people that are criminals to take over and move in on us. If they don’t want to obey our laws then they should not be here or expect to be treated as citizens.

  • AmericanPride

There’s plenty of Americans of Mexican and other Latino/Hispanic ethnicities like myself who want every single person that’s in our country illegally to pack up their anchor babies and GO HOME! I don’t care what color they are, where they came from, what gender, age or religion they are, how they came here, how old they were when they came, who brough them, how many anchor babies they’ve had to leech off of government assistance and hide behind to avoid deportation or how long they have managed to duck our laws and avoid deportation to live here. I have no fear of ant race so I won’t allow people of ANY color/race/ethnicity to use that pathetic, tired, old race card on me.
People who don’t respect our laws and borders don’t respect our country and people. Those people don’t DESERVE to be here and we shouldn’t have to have our tax dollars used to educate them, give them medical care and incarcerate the worst of them.
And the reason that so many are focused on the Latino/Hisanic illegal aliens is because those are the MAJORITY who are coming here AND who are having the audacity to demand that we ignore or change our laws so that they can remain!!! They have brought this all on themselves by acting like entitled, direspectful, rude parasites! If they put as much effort into reclaiming their countries for their people as they do ours they wouldn’t have to come here.

  • AmericanPride

I do believe in treating them as I would like to be treated. That is why I don’t disrespect them by disrespecting their laws and borders. And if I did I would fully expect to be punished for it as would be their right.

  • AmericanPride

It is nature, pure and simple. Even the Native Americans killed each other for various reasons, not limited to greed. In nature it is called ‘survival of the fittest’. People and animals will naturally go where things are best for them. The strong conquer the weak and life goes on.
Show me where “If you can go were ever you want to go, then go.” was written as a law back then or now.

  • Monique

    Hooray for you Clark!!!!
