This is the music video for K’naan’s first single “Soobax” (pronounced so-BAH). It was written about living in Somalia at the mercy of violent rival warlords, and was meant to be an anthem to lift the spirits of his fellow Somalis. He told us that “it was just a song that I had written about warlords and, you know, gun trafficking people who kind of took an entire country, an entire people and culture hostage, and I was saying to them, ‘We’re the one’s suffering the consequences of you. Maybe you should leave, you know?’”
The video was shot in one of the largest Somali refugee neighborhoods in Kenya.
