1. WE HAVE BROADCAST DATES FOR THE TV SERIES!
ON OUR OWN TERMS: MOYERS ON DYING
is a four-part television series that will air on public
television Sept. 10-13 from 9:00 - 10:30PM ET(check local listings).
Details about the series can be found on
the Web site.
2. HELP US BUILD THIS COMMUNITY ONLINE!
In conjunction with the series, an OUTREACH campaign is now
underway to create sustainable networks to examine and
discuss end-of-life care in communities across this country.
An online forum is now available for your use on the
website. You must first REGISTER online to participate.
After you've registered, proceed to the Discussion Forums .
These discussion boards are designed to create a sense of
collaboration, community and participation among hundreds if not thousands
of people, enabling us to benefit from each other's experiences in the
development of this Outreach Campaign. Please visit today, share your
plans and experiences. You can also ask others about their
experiences in organizing events in their communities
Since the message boards just opened,
traffic is light, but we encourage you to visit now and post
a message. Then come back again in a few days or a week. Let's get the
activity BUZZING and build a THRIVING ONLINE COMMUNITY!
3. CLICKABLE MAP OF STATE-BASED DISCUSSIONS
The discussion boards are organized by outreach activity and
by state. Be sure to sign into your state's discussion, to see and
share what's going on! Tell us of your interest in this topic, and how you'd
like to help with the Outreach Campaign
in YOUR state or community. Go to our clickable state-by-state map.
4. TOPIC AREAS FOR DISCUSSION BOARDS
VIDEOCONFERENCE: Post your questions for videoconference
panelists, your ideas on audience development, and ideas for follow-up
sessions. How will you use the videoconference to energize your
steering committee and help expand dialogue on end-of-life discussions
in your community?
THE ISSUES: What needs to be done to have Medicare/Medicaid pick up
more of the tab for palliative and hospice care? What experiences
have you witnessed that indicate that change in
end-of-life care is needed? How should it be
accomplished?
COMMUNITY SURVEY: Are you planning to do a community
survey? Tell us how you are conducting your survey and
learn from others' experiences. Post your
information or ask your questions here.
RESOURCES: Give us your thoughts on the resource directory.
Do you know of other human "resources" in your community
who ought to be included on a steering committee?
Are there other types of resources that you've come across
and would like to share? What should each community include
in a local guide?
EVENTS: Post the events you are planning here and on your
state Boards. Discuss and plan for screening events, town meetings and
small group discussions at the community or state level.
Who should be your panelists? Who should be invited?
What is the ideal size of a meeting? - Ask your questions in
this section.
REACH OUT TO TARGETED AUDIENCES: Discuss how to
spread the word in the workplace, among clergy and faith
communities, among health care providers and counselors. What do you
think is the best time and place to have a discussion group?
How would you attract people to them?
ACTIVITIES: Discuss implementation of any of the activities
in the Leadership Guide, such as creating conversations that
matter and taking a spiritual history. Sharon Bulova from Fairfax,
VA has posted a series of activities. Take a look at what
they're doing and share any ideas of your own.
We look forward to meeting you "on the boards".
