Dr. Timothy Quill is a leading spokesman for legalizing physician assisted suicide. He is a Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Rochester.
In 1997, Dr. Quill was the lead physician plaintiff in an action brought to the U.S. Supreme Court (Quill v. Vacco ) which challenged a New York State law prohibiting physician assisted suicide.
Dr. Quill is a fellow in the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Academy on Physician and Patient. He is a peer reviewer of the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of General Internal Medicine and the Journal of Palliative Care.
Dr. Quill is the author of "A Midwife Through the Dying Process: Stories of Healing and Hard Choices at the End of Life" published in 1996 by Johns Hopkins University Press, and "Death with Dignity: Making Choices and Taking Charge" published in 1993 by W.W. Norton. He is a regular contributor to the "New England Journal of Medicine" as well as many other professional publications.

Dr. Ira Byock is a noted advocate for improving end-of-life care. He is the Director of the Palliative Care Service in Missoula, Montana and a Research Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Montana.
As an end-of-life care advocate, Dr. Byock is working as the Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation National Program Office for Promoting Excellence in End-of-Life Care; he is the founder and Principal Investigator of the Missoula Demonstration Project, Inc, a community-based organization dedicated to the research and transformation of end-of-life experience locally, as a demonstration of what is possible nationally; he is the Chief Medical Consultant and member of the Board of Directors, at the Partnership for Caring, Washington, D.C.; and serves on the Board of Directors for Choice in Dying, and the National Health Council.
He has served as Chair of the Ethics Committee for the Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and has been a member of the Ethics Committee of the National Hospice Organization. He is a Past President of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (1997).
