Climate study show that by 2050, 37% of lower Manhattan will be at risk of storm surge. By 2100, it’ll increase to 50% of the area. To fortify one of the financial capitals of the world, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio wants to “climate-proof lower Manhattan” by expanding the coastline and creating a barrier around the lower part of the island.
