Kim Lawton: Richard Cizik and Evangelicals

Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly managing editor Kim Lawton discusses Richard Cizik’s resignation from the National Association of Evangelicals amid controversy about his recent statements on civil unions and says the incident shows a growing division among evangelicals over politics and ideology.

I have many misgivings about the resignation of Rev. Cizik, he among the NAE spoke volumes about the ideal of “big tent,” evangelicalism.
Without his leadership and guidance, there will be a hole in the carrying of the Gospel to all nations, not just the “gay marriage and abortion,” issues that make up the politicized views of some evangelicals.
My sincere regrets to Rev. Cizik, you will be missed and are deeply loved for your stances, and for your caring about the Good News to all men.
