Mike Huckabee: Still Social Conservatives’ Choice

Nearly 2,000 social conservatives gathered in Washington, D.C. September 18-20 for the annual Values Voter Summit. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was their clear favorite in a straw poll of potential Republican presidential candidates for 2012. (No Democrats were on the ballot because organizers said they assumed President Obama would run for re-election.) Watch excerpts of Huckabee’s speech to the crowd.

Yes he’s willing to sacrifice the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and wrap himself in the American flag and say that his religious beliefs, which are his constituency’s, should be the American system of government. That’s the way they do it in Islam too. America is ruled by the law of man, not Huckabee’s interpretation of the bible.

  • David Scudder

When did Huckabee EVER say that his religious beliefs should be the American system of government?? The fact is our country was based on the Judeo-Christian ethics.

I think Huckabee’s biggest problem his fundamental religious belief. His stated belief in Creationism, and , in general, his Baptist “Faith” puts him at serious risk in the task of making decisions for 300 million people. A belief that the world was created in 6 days, that at the time of Noah’s flood (4400 years ago, Archbishop James Ussher) God then killed all people on earth except Noah, his three sons, and their 4 wives. Then, we have to conclude that all genetic material , from which we all evolved , came through these 8 (really 5) people? And the Earth was covered with water over the highest mountain from springs within the earth? And the sun stood still for a day, etc, I could go on and on.

The underlying definition of “faith” is “a belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof “ These Biblical beliefs, belie all scientific data which has been established about the physical , geological, biological, and social nature of the world and the universe.

Now can we trust Huckabee to make reasoned decisions about our energy problems (fossilized products a million years old)? About global warming and about population growth? There are many more.

Today’s problems extend way beyond the scope of the Bible, and way beyond the scope of any mind that is that narrowly focused.

Creationism,,whats the problem with that? The more “our greatest minds” look into it, the more they belive.Yeah, and to think that all the people in the world could be killed with one great episode. How far fetched is that right?
And how many people do you think this world started out with, where did they come from,,,,etc.
Mat 19:26 But Jesus beheld [them], and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Mar 10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men [it is] impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
My friend your asking all the right questions, and our God has all the right answears ! God Bless U.S.A.!

One respondent above says that one of Huckabee’s biggest problems is his fundamental religious belief… Huckabee is not a fundamentalist. He was leader of the Arkansas Southern Baptist Convention during the SBC’s big debate over the inerrancy of the Bible and he was a key leader of the neo-orthodox camp. Clearly, he is no fundamentalist. The religious rigt in this country is a large group of people from a number of denominations that believe that one must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in order to be saved. One must make Christ the King and head of his or her life. That happens to be orthodox chritian belief for every protestant denomination and most of the independent evangelical denominations. While there are many in some of the old main-line denominations that have moved away from that to a more social gospel, there are still many that adhear to the orginal creeds and beliefs of their reformational roots. Whether Baptists, or Presbyterians or Lutherans or Anglicans etc.. The religious right is very broad. When they get fired up and motivated to go vote, they usually sway the results. The questions is, does Hucabee fire up that group? Last time around, he did not.
