Mr. Knox has been appointed to a government position. In his past, he has made statements that in my view are vicious anti catholic tirades. If he is paid by my tax dollars, I expect him to tolerate those who disagree with his opinions and refrain from anti-catholic statements. If he is acting as a private individual, he is protected by the first amendment. When he holds a public position, he is a public persons whose views should not incite anti-catholic hatered to advance his pet ideas.
