Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney discusses how his Mormon faith will -- and will not -- affect his politics, and he asserts that religion should not be forced out of the public square.
Sorry, you need the latest version of the free flash player in order to watch the video clips.
Freedom Requires Religion leaves little room for the millions of people in this country who fall outside Mitt Romneny's definition of "religion". What about secular America?
I think freedom must include freedom from religion, something Mr Romney seems to not believe in.
Obviously, it's not time for him to court the secular American vote.
This is his response to the evangelical-idiots-for-Huckabee-on-the-basis-of-religion---who still think, unsurprizingly, that their dearly beloved Bush is a still a godly and moral man despite his 7 years of lying, stealing, and killing on behalf of his family's corporational ties.
Romney will clean the corruption out of government--until then, just watch how the crooked GOP try to maintain their status quo and shut him down with Rove tactics--and try to use religion and little known 19th century pseudohistory against him. When opponents use the "cult" word, know that it's lobbyist DC corruption behind it.
Freedom of religion! Freedom to believe in that of which you choose. Right, Well also the freedom to not believe.
If you want to know more about mormons go to mormon.org
If you want to know what mormons actually believe, you should ask a mormon, not someone who is not.
If you wanted medical advice, you would not go to your local michanic, you would go to a doctor. Someone who know what he is talking about.
Romney also did not say anything negitive about other religions, he spoke highly of several.
I believe that everyone believes in something even if they don't admit it. It is human nature to believe in a higher power.
I personally hold a firm faith in the Triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and I'm very thankful that I benefit from the separation of Church and State every day. I also am most thankful that I would benefit from the first amendment if I held no beliefs in a higher power. Gov. Romney does not allow for this in his speech and his campaign as he panders to the religious right.
Faith is a very personal matter which relates to the individual. Religion, especially institutional, is where things get sticky. The worse times of history (CE/AD) have been when a country becomes a Church-State or a State-Church.
THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD!!!!
To the people who do not want religion in politics or this country I respect your opinion but do not think peoples religion makes them weak, crazy etc.You do not want to try to hold religion back or they will come fast strong and take away your voice of ignorance..
Question: would you rather our president be protecting our country or having casual sex with his staff for his tenure?? OH,SECULAR AMERICA?? LOL
I think Romney's comments about religion and freedom are inclusive, not exclusive. True religion requires loving your fellowman (and woman) as well as loving God. It teaches us to turn the other cheek, go the extra mile, think of others more than ourselves. As such, religion, and especially Christianity, stabilizes the nation. It gives us a platform that encourages a humane and law abiding society. It encourages homes where love and nurturing prevent many social ills for our children.
I'm grateful for Romney's views, and his courage to express them in a nation that is becoming more antireligious.
A good example of Mormon not interferring with government is the problems they have in Utah where the LDS council must review and approve new laws and such voted in by the state legislature. Romney has sworn on all his faith to follow the directives of his church leader. Who then would be in control of the presidency? Which God does Romney speak of? The LDS have many. "There are more gods in the heavens than their are pieces of matter in the universe." Their words, not mine....
Our country may just be more free and safer with Romney as president. We deserve to be free religiously and non-religiously and Romney's beliefs will put the voice of the people over ideologies of religion or the god of money or sex. We have seen how Bush and Cheney bow before the dollar and the fornicator Clinton worshiped sex and money. How is someone like Romney worse than they?
Romney is addressing not politics but religious intolerance which is obvious by most of the comments.
That being said, I have yet to decide on which candidate would be the least undesirable (politically,... not religiously).
