Rick Warren: A Broad Moral Agenda

Evangelical megachurch pastor and bestselling author Rick Warren announced this week he will host John McCain and Barack Obama at a forum on leadership and compassion to be held at Saddleback Church in Orange County, California on August 16th. This is the first scheduled joint appearance of the two candidates in the 2008 campaign. Warren said the format will be "civil and thoughtful" with no "gotcha questions." He said they will discuss faith and a broad range of "pressing issues" facing the country. In a 2007 interview with RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY, Warren described the wide-ranging political agenda he supports.

The Church, all denominations, should attend to the business of Christ - praying, visiting the sick, assisting the poor, witnessing to the love of our Lord in Jesus - lending a hand, as possible, in every community.
There are the issues of health care, dental care, medicines and then the horrors of cancer, heart diseases, strokes. Bro Rick needs to recall that AIDS was not even on his radar screen until his wife suffered with cancer.
Question - does Saddleback Church take care of, even the county it is located, in the matters of health care, dental care, medicines and then the horror diseases that take so much money - heart disese, strokes, juvenile and adult diatetes, and the 'disease' of repeated and on going poverty. Who hires the people with lower abilities?
My community has an 8.2% unemployment rate. Our small churches of all denominations are struggling to stay alive and minister where we can.
When church boards decided 'who' got 'what' in the early times of America, most often it was NOT done in a fair and impartial manner.
Bro Rick needs to remember that all of us Evangelicals are still sinners saved by our Lord's love and grace - and as he teaches, we won't be sin free until the Lord calls us.

I would challenge Rick Warren and any other Christ follower-believer to read Dr. Erwin Lutzer's (SR. Pastor of Moody Church in Chicago) new book, "Is God on America's Side?" It is both refreshing and challenging! ...and read "UnChristian" by David Kinnaman (President of The Barna Group, while your at it! Very insightful indeed.

Let's focus more on Christ, much more, and less on politics. Politics aren't going to change our climate in America - life in Christ will though!

We as Christians need to focus on those issues which Christ talkes about in the bible. So called Conservative Christians spend too much time focusing on politics, instead of spreading the gospel to the lost, feeding the hungry, and clothing the naked. Has Rev. Warren questioned President Bush's sins and held him accountable for the thousands of lives that were lost in the Iraq war, which was based on a lie? Have they held those Republicans responsible for their immoral behavior? Stop casting stones at Obama and start cleaning out your own backyard.
