Jim Wallis: Financial Crisis Has Election Implications

In this exclusive online conversation, Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly managing editor Kim Lawton talks with Rev. Jim Wallis, editor of Sojourners magazine and author of THE GREAT AWAKENING, about how the financial crisis may affect the presidential campaign. Wallis describes how the candidates should be framing the moral dimensions of the crisis and what principles he thinks voters should be considering at the ballot box.

FINALLY, someone who actually sees the "big picture". I agree with these comments of Rev. Wallis and I commend him for his insight.

Thank you,
It's time to let God's word set our priorities once again. Using the lectionary, we hear the words of Jesus, an old testament Psalm, and lesson of history or a word from the prophet, and we see church attempting to live out the Gospel in a difficult world. It's time for us to set aside our hobby horses, stop the culture wars, and proclaim the Gospel. Our issues if we would follow Jesus, good news to the poor, release to the prisoner, healing of the sick, comfort for the grieving. We can't do that and build a human empire at the same time.

Thank you, Jim Wallis!

Some dozen years ago, our GNP was lower than our imported goods.

Corporate stocks were soaring even though production didn't match.

Investing became solely greed based and like a game of musical chairs. Something would be named hot, all would jump in like a school of fish. Early satiated feeders slip out, then bam! The net closes. Enron was an example.

It isnt just greed that's had an unfettered run; the interests and voice of "We, The People" have been hijacked by corporate elites. Just ask Cheney.

Corporate welfare is far warse than socialism. We'll need funds for the rough times ahead for the people; to saddle the people with a millstone of debt and save the few who did this is insane.

Yes. We need to let Christ's Word direct our actions in church and government. It is probably best if the church, salvation army, charities,-- handle the poor rather than gov. welfare. Therefore also helping their spiritual life. The first 300 years in U.S. WAS centered in church and christian principles. We need to turn to CHRIST. W K
