Kim Lawton: Social Conservatives and Sarah Palin

Reporting from the floor of the Republican National Convention, Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly managing editor Kim Lawton says social conservative delegates there remain excited by McCain running mate Gov. Sarah Palin, pleased with her strong pro-life stance, and unfazed by the news of her unwed teen-age daughter's pregnancy.

The "rank and file" are elated about the nomination of Sarah Palin. Many of us were unenthusiastic about John McCain, even though we prefer him to Barack Obama.

My decision hinged on his VP pick, and IMO he hit a home run with Sarah Palin. I went from threatening not to vote at all to being enthusiastic about the ticket.
