Activist groups should bring about a greater awareness of worker rights issues and add a moral voice to global economic matters, says David Schilling of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility.

This award-winning economist is credited with bringing down Thailand’s HIV infection rate, lowering its high birth rate, reducing poverty rates, and championing sustainable development ideas that work in rural settings.

“When we say grace we are grateful for the food on our plates. But where did that food travel? Who picked it? How did it get to us? As people of faith we are called to think about that.”

Using ancient Chinese spiritual principles, says Raymond Lo, a feng shui grand master in Hong Kong, “we can establish where is the good energy and where is the bad energy.”

"Something like happiness, it sound frivolous, but it’s not frivolous. The purpose of society is to create a better quality of life for all the people. It’s not to create the highest amount of aggregate wealth," says international business consultant and author David Rothkopf.

"This is a new wave of activism through what one eats, that what we eat and what we buy is a vote of confidence in our highest values," says Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz.

Religious leaders of this largely Christian country will have a key role to play in successfully managing its wealth and in fostering its adherence to democratic values.

"It’s a matter of sharing the burdens of a free society and a good society. That’s, morally speaking, what taxes are about," according to political philosopher and Harvard government professor Michael Sandel.

“When they ask for public monies to fund putting out their particular point of view, that’s where we have a problem,” says Rev. Joseph Phelps of the Highland Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
