Iraq: Historic Mosques and Shrines Destroyed by Islamic State Militants

In the city of Mosul, the extremists destroyed several historic mosques and shrines, including the site that was revered as the tomb of the prophet Jonah in the biblical city of Nineveh. This came as the last remaining Christians were forced to flee Mosul. Religious freedom advocates urged the U.S. to provide humanitarian aid to Christians and other minorities who have been uprooted by the violence. According to the U.N., more than a million Iraqis have been displaced because of the recent events.
