The largest group of US Catholic nuns this week said they were hopeful about reaching a resolution with the Vatican after last year’s controversial crackdown on the group. The Vatican accused the Leadership Conference of Women Religious of “serious doctrinal problems” and appointed three bishops to oversee major reforms. The sisters met with one of the bishops last week. They described the meeting as a “rich and deeply reverent conversation” but said they are still uncertain about how their work with the bishops will proceed.
