Deadliest Battle
Watch the Full Episode

Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 was the largest troop offensive in military history. And the Battle of Stalingrad is arguably the deadliest single battle the world has ever seen.

The eventual Russian victory has long been lauded as a shining example of Stalin’s military genius. He is said to have baited a much more powerful and technologically advanced German army with a carefully executed withdrawal, then caught the Nazis unprepared in vicious city-block-by-city-block fighting that decimated the German forces. By the time the battle was over, more than 1 million lives had been lost and the course of the war had been permanently altered. But 70 years after the battle was fought, newly uncovered documents, survivor accounts, and stunning archival footage are revealing a very different picture of what took place.

Secrets of the Dead: Deadliest Battle uncovers the evidence that describes a forced retreat by the Russians, not a tactical one, in addition to much fiercer fighting in the countryside than previously thought. And the battle not only changed the course of World War II, but established the Soviet Union as a superpower to be reckoned with in the long Cold War that lay ahead. More than a half-century later, the full impact of this horrific battle is revealed.

Hitler was in way over his head thinking that his armies could defeat the USSR. He should have taken notes from Stalins playbook, let your generals call the shots on the battlefield something it took time for comrade Stalin to embrace but when he did things started going well for the Russians. Long live Mother Russia death to all axis, nazi or whoever wanna run up. U get dealt with soviet style.

Indeed, in all of the recorded history of human civilization, especially bloody history of Europe and Russia, all monarchical oppressions, wars and famines were caused by …. socialism.

What a load of biased codswallop!… Stalin was a megalomaniac?? After the war, documented…during the war?? No mention of the Soviet’s desperate attempts to get England and France to see Hitler as a threat, no mention that they had no choice but to treaty with Germany to buy time because the Western Allies had isolated the USSR, both with trade and diplomacy?? They ignored the Soviet delegates in 1936!! Let’s see some real facts here. Paulus had a NO SURRENDER, NO STEP BACK ORDER. After attempting to stay the course, he surrendered, first Nazi general to do so….I really wish people would stop the revisionist versions of history. Even the in US..Uncle Joe..was celebrated as a hero. Can we stick to the context as it was then..not what we wish people had done, not what we see now that they should have done. This series is suspect, nailing Churchill for the sinking of the French Fleet is just asinine..how about discussing the morality of letting Coventry be bombed to preserve the secret of Enigma? Oh sorry, that might just be a real decision that might have been taken as opposed to an imposition of current world view. This is NOT HISTORY…This is not how HISTORY should be studied.
