Part detective story, part true-life drama, SECRETS OF THE DEAD unearths evidence from around the world, challenging prevailing ideas and throwing fresh light on unexplained events. Using the most up-to-date science in the laboratory and in the field, scientists and researchers examine the missing pieces of each puzzle, completing the picture of what had been merely an assemblage of suppositions.

Hi all, Kathrin Ward here - I am a decendant of Eleanor McDonald who was on the Lady Juliana. She married David Kilkpack from First Fleet, the Scarborough.
Would love to know how to find out more about "what happened next". Is there anyone who knows what steps the three living descendants in this program used to uncover the full stories of their female ancestors? I would love to know more about how they lived. Eleanor and David spent I think 10 years on Norfolk Island, had four children, one of whom died early but I am descended from one of the others. My cousin is more into doing the geneology but he is busy with the other side of his family - but I am curious to find out more! kathrin333@gmail.com

I've just finished making 3 bonnets for the three ancestors I had on this Lady Juliana's voyage- Ann Harper, Ann Brooks and Jane Whitting. The bonnets project is being run by Christina Henri who is attempting to gather a bonnet each, for over 25 000 women convicts who we are lucky enough to have in our history, and to whom Australia owes a great deal. Anyone interested can find out more at www.rosesfromtheheart.com.au
Just think what Australia would have been like without all these great women?

With three daughters I am always looking for empowering articles and histories to encourage them to take charge of their lives! A recent reminder of this great feat and the story of "Fatal Shores" led me to this site! BRAVA!! indeed!

What a wonderful tribute to women who overcame obstacles beyond their situations. I truly believe most of these women were victims of circumstance, and to be able to survive and thrive is a testament to the power women have despite the constant pushing down of their spirit by the men of the time, and the class system. I say bravo! And thank you for opening up a new and interesting side of herstory.

My husbands 4x g/grandmother was on the Lady Juliana. She was transported from Sydney to Norfolk Island. She did return to Sydney with Richard Jones, who was a superintendant on NI. He later became a NSW police officer.

Any other information would be much appreciated.

The Lady Juliana story is a very interesting one, its a pity that their 20 years on Norfolk Island before coming to VDL between 1807-1813 was not covered as this is where most of them married and had their children. over sixty were to settle in VDL and made a valued contribution to our infant settlement. For the list of those who came to VDL see my website.
