Bones show signs of chopping, dismemberment, butchering, andcutting by stone tools. The stone tools of the Anasazi create marks on bone that are distinctive; archaeologists have recreated these marks by butcheringanimals using the same kind of tools. When cutting tendons, for example, stoneknives often leave small slices on the soft rounded end of the bones. Stonescrapers also leave a distinctive scratching pattern on fresh bones.
