Christy Turner, a professor of anthropology at Arizona State University, has spent the last thirty years studying the Anasazi. He believes that he knows why this sophisticated civilization perished so mysteriously a thousand years ago. Among the bone-filled ruins, he has found evidence of widespread cannibalism among the Anasazi.

Turner's theory is controversial, but his conclusions are based on a great dealof solid forensic evidence.

He has studied the bones of dozens of Anasazi, all of which show signs that massive violence was inflicted upon them. Many bear marks made by stone tools, marks identical to those found on animal bones after they have been processed by the Anasazi for food.

Turner proposes that there are six basic forensic identifiers ofcannibalism, and he has found evidence of all six in the Anasazi remains.
